Grasshopper Campground Introduce
Are you a local user searching for a 'camping near me' experience in the Broken Bow, Oklahoma area? Consider Grasshopper Campground, located at 57JH+H8, Broken Bow, OK 74728, USA. Situated in the vicinity of Broken Bow Lake, this campground offers lakeside access and, according to some reviews, beautiful views. However, it's important for potential campers to be aware of the limited amenities and varying experiences reported by previous visitors.
One positive review highlighted the "beautiful views" and the "minimal boat traffic at the actual campsites." The camper who stayed at site GH022 considered it the "best campsite there," noting that it features "a beach of its own to hang out at, ample space, and is near the bathrooms but far enough to not smell them." This suggests that some sites within Grasshopper Campground offer desirable features like private beach areas and a convenient, yet not too close, proximity to the restroom facilities.
Regarding tent setup, one visitor mentioned that while there aren't many "super flat spots for tents," there are "lots of 'flat enough' areas," and they successfully set up a 6-person tent without significant issues. This indicates that while the terrain might not be perfectly level throughout the campground, it is generally manageable for tent camping.
However, several downsides were also noted. The restroom facilities at the Grasshopper area consist of just "2 pit toilets," with "no electricity or running water anywhere." For those seeking more conventional bathroom amenities, a reviewer pointed out that you can drive about 2 minutes to the nearest RV camping area for "normal bathrooms with showers." This suggests that while basic toilet facilities are available at Grasshopper Campground, campers needing running water or showers will need to utilize facilities outside of the immediate camping area.
The cleanliness of the campsite was described as "decent," but one visitor did observe "some broken glass and trash in a few places, and weeds under the concrete picnic table." This indicates that while the campground might generally be acceptable in terms of cleanliness, there may be areas that could be better maintained.
In contrast to the more positive experiences, another reviewer found the location to be a "terrible location for camping." Their primary complaints included "NO designated parking," with parking only allowed on the edge of a grassy area adjacent to boat parking. They also stated that the "entire campground has no FLAT part to put down your tent," describing it as "very rocky with debris and trees all over the place." Furthermore, this reviewer noted "NO restroom or water" directly at the campsites (a point contradicted by the mention of pit toilets in another review, suggesting variability or perhaps a misunderstanding of the facilities). Finally, they mentioned frequent boat traffic from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM with bright headlights and noise, which kept them awake, leading them to leave after only one night of a two-night booking. This strongly negative review suggests that the experience at Grasshopper Campground can be far from ideal for some campers.
Environment and Location:
Grasshopper Campground is located near Broken Bow Lake, offering potential access to the lake and its associated recreational activities. The presence of "minimal boat traffic at the actual campsites" (as per one review) could be a significant advantage for those seeking a quieter lakeside experience directly from their site. The mention of a "beach of its own" at site GH022 further highlights the potential for scenic and enjoyable lakeside camping.
However, the terrain is described as not having many super flat spots for tents and being rocky with debris and trees, which might make setting up camp more challenging in some areas. The frequent boat traffic and associated noise and lights during much of the day and evening, as reported by one reviewer, could also detract from the peacefulness of the environment for some campers.
Services and Amenities:
The services at Grasshopper Campground appear to be quite basic. There are pit toilets available, but no electricity or running water within the campground itself. Campers needing more comprehensive restroom facilities, including showers, will need to travel a short distance to a nearby RV camping area. There is mention of concrete picnic tables at the campsites, which is a standard amenity for many campgrounds.
The lack of designated parking and the need to park on the edge of a grassy area could be inconvenient, especially for unloading and accessing camping gear. The absence of provided firewood is also worth noting for those planning to have campfires (though this wasn't specifically mentioned in the reviews provided).
Features and Activities:
The primary feature of Grasshopper Campground is its location near Broken Bow Lake, offering opportunities for boating (though perhaps away from the immediate campsites), swimming (especially at sites with a "beach"), and enjoying lakeside views. The ample space reported at some campsites, like GH022, is also a notable feature.
However, potential campers should be prepared for the basic nature of the facilities, particularly the pit toilets and the lack of running water and electricity. The rocky terrain might also influence the types of activities that can be comfortably undertaken directly at the campsite.
Promotional Information and Considerations:
For local users looking for a 'camping near me' option with direct access to Broken Bow Lake and potentially scenic views, Grasshopper Campground offers this. Some campsites, like GH022, appear to be particularly desirable with their own beach area and ample space. If you are comfortable with more rustic amenities, such as pit toilets and no on-site water or electricity, and are prepared for potentially uneven terrain for tent pitching, Grasshopper Campground might be a consideration.
However, it's crucial to weigh the positive aspects against the reported downsides, including the lack of flat tent spots, the basic restroom facilities, potential cleanliness issues, and the possibility of noise and light from boat traffic. If you require more amenities or prefer a quieter camping environment, you might want to consider other options in the Broken Bow area.
In summary, Grasshopper Campground offers a lakeside camping experience near Broken Bow, with some sites providing beautiful views and direct lake access. However, it has limited amenities, and some visitors have reported issues with terrain, cleanliness, and noise. Local users seeking 'camping near me' should carefully consider these factors based on the provided reviews to determine if this campground meets their needs and preferences for an outdoor getaway.

Overall we had a great time - it wasn't perfect, but it was all we needed.
Jul 15, 2024 · Jacob ThompsonTerrible location for camping. First, NO designated parking. You can only park on edge of the grass area adjacent to the boat parking so would not be in the way of the traffic. Second, the entire campground has no FLAT part to put down your tent, it's very rocky with debris and trees all over the place. NO restroom or water. You can only identify the campsite by site number through the woods with a picnic table. Besides, from 6:30 AM till 10:30 PM, frequent boats in and out of the area with bright head lights and noise will keep you awake. I will say it can be a picnic area but absolutely NOT a campground as commonly defined. I booked two nights and quickly ran away the next morning after one night.
