Grayback Gulch Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a 'camping near me' experience within the Boise National Forest, Grayback Gulch Campground, located off Forest Rd 347A, Boise, ID 83716, USA, offers a conveniently located forested setting. Situated a short distance from Boise, this campground provides an accessible natural escape. While some aspects like highway noise and limited privacy are noted, the campground boasts beautiful surroundings, paved campsites, and basic amenities, making it a potential option for those looking to enjoy the outdoors near the city.
The environment at Grayback Gulch Campground is primarily described as a beautiful forested area, characterized by tall Ponderosa Pine trees. Visitors can expect a natural setting with a canopy of trees providing shade and a classic forest ambiance. A small creek, referred to as a "little creek babbling along," adds to the peaceful atmosphere, creating a soothing natural soundtrack. During certain times of the year, such as when one reviewer visited before the official opening, wildflowers, described as "little wild buttercup-type," may be in bloom, adding splashes of color to the landscape. The campground is accessed by crossing over Mores Creek and then ascending a gradual slope. While the area experienced some fallen trees during the winter, it is anticipated that these will be cleared before the main camping season begins. Despite its natural beauty, one reviewer mentioned that the proximity to the highway means that traffic noise can often be heard within the campground. This is a factor to consider for those particularly sensitive to noise during their outdoor experiences.
In terms of services and features, Grayback Gulch Campground offers a range of basic amenities to support campers. The restroom facilities consist of clean vault toilets (outhouses), with a total of four available. For water, the campground provides two pumps, which were noted as a great feature by one visitor. The campsites themselves are described as good-sized and paved, offering a level surface for tents or RVs. Each campsite is equipped with a campfire pit for campfires and cooking, a sturdy picnic table for outdoor dining and gathering, and a "big hooked pole" whose exact purpose might be unclear to some but likely serves a function related to camp cooking or hanging items. The sites are also noted to be spread out, which can enhance the feeling of space within the campground. However, despite the spacing, one reviewer pointed out that there is "really no privacy" between campsites, which is an important consideration for those seeking a more secluded camping experience.
A significant feature of Grayback Gulch Campground is its convenient proximity to Boise. This makes it an easily accessible option for local residents looking for a quick getaway into nature without a long drive. The presence of "lots of trails for ATVs" is another notable feature, indicating that the area is popular among off-road vehicle enthusiasts. This could be a significant draw for those who enjoy ATV riding and want a campground with direct access to trails. However, it's also important to note that the presence of ATV activity might contribute to noise and traffic within the campground or on nearby trails. While the campsites are described as clean and well-kept, one reviewer mentioned that the map available on recreation.gov does not accurately represent all the campsites, which could potentially lead to confusion when trying to select or reserve a specific site. It might be advisable to seek additional information or a more accurate map if available.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Grayback Gulch Campground in the provided reviews. Campgrounds within the Boise National Forest typically operate on a fee basis, and information regarding fees or potential discounts (such as for annual passes) would usually be available through the official Boise National Forest website or recreation.gov. In conclusion, Grayback Gulch Campground in the Boise National Forest offers a conveniently located forested camping experience near Boise. The campground features paved campsites, clean vault toilets, and water pumps, along with picnic tables and fire pits. Its proximity to ATV trails is a significant draw for off-road enthusiasts. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported highway noise and the lack of privacy between campsites. Grayback Gulch Campground Reviews
The Campground is not open yet. You cross over Mores Creek first then turn up a gradual slope into the Campground. We took our dog and hiked around, our first time there, and loved it! It's a beautiful forested campground with nice Outhouse bathrooms; good-sized, paved flat camp sites (as far as we could tell, ) that include a campfire pit, sturdy picnic table and a big hooked pole others would probably know what it's for! 😅 There was a little creek babbling along and some 🌼 little wild buttercup-type wild flowers blooming. It was just a lovely, 🌲🌲🌲 in-the-tall-Ponderosa-Pines place to be! There were a few tall trees that broke and fell in the Winter, but they will be moved by camping season. My phone died so I didn't get photos of the camp sites.
Apr 19, 2022 · Melodee BarrusWe really liked how close to Boise this is. But if you go to recreation.gov the map does not show all the campsites. 4 Clean vault toilets, and 2 pumps for water which was great. Sites are spread out, but theres really no privacy. Lots of trails for atvs. We could always hear the traffic on the highway. Clean and well kept sites.
Aug 21, 2019 · DoniNice clean campground only about a mile or so from idaho city
Sep 08, 2024 · Christine Van CampWe booked group A and B for our wedding. It was beautiful. Had an abundance of tables and each group and one large fire pit. The water pump worked just fine with a little effort. You do need to bring your own gazebo or something similar though. Bathrooms were fairly clean. Maintenance showed up on our second day to clean them. The only real complaint that I have is the random people that will just stroll through on a walk or on their bike. They were stopping to talk to our kids and walking right through gusts campsites.
Sep 06, 2022 · Amber MartinezI couldnt find the camphost but my site was beautiful and spacious. Down side, neighbouring landowners were up early cutting down large pine trees. I dont like seeing or hearing trees being cut but I guessed they need winter fire wood.
