Salt Creek Campground Introduce
For local residents of Port Angeles, Washington, and the surrounding areas seeking a captivating "camping near me" experience, Salt Creek Campground offers a unique coastal setting within the Tongue Point Marine Life Sanctuary. This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of the campground, drawing upon available information, including real customer reviews, to highlight its environment, services, distinctive features, and important considerations for local users planning a visit.
Embrace the Stunning Coastal Environment and Marine Sanctuary: Salt Creek Campground's location within the Tongue Point Marine Life Sanctuary underscores its exceptional natural environment. Campers can expect breathtaking ocean views, with the Strait of Juan de Fuca stretching out before them. The coastline here is likely diverse, potentially featuring rocky shores, tide pools teeming with marine life, and perhaps sandy or pebbled beaches perfect for exploration. The air will be fresh and salty, with the sounds of the ocean providing a constant backdrop to your camping experience. The sanctuary designation indicates a rich marine ecosystem, offering opportunities for observing various sea creatures and coastal birds. Low tides will likely reveal fascinating tide pools, providing hours of natural discovery for all ages.
The campground's proximity to the ocean means that weather conditions can be variable, and campers should be prepared for potential wind and cooler temperatures, especially outside of the peak summer months. The natural beauty of the area, however, with its dramatic cliffs, expansive water views, and the dynamic interplay of tides, makes Salt Creek a truly special location for a coastal camping getaway. The ability to "walk forever and never get bored," as mentioned in a review, suggests ample opportunities for scenic strolls and exploration along the shoreline.
Services and Amenities Available at Salt Creek Campground: Based on the customer reviews, we can gather specific information about the services and amenities offered at Salt Creek Campground:
- Campsites: The campground offers a mix of campsite types. While full hookups (sewer) are not available at any site, there is an "easy to use and access septic dump station" for RVs. Water hookups at RV sites are reportedly shut off for the season after September, although potable water remains available. It's advisable to confirm the specific amenities of your chosen campsite when making a reservation.
- Reservations and First-Come, First-Serve Spots: Reservations are highly recommended, especially for stays between April and September, as "reservations go fast" and should be made when the system opens for the season. For those who prefer spontaneity, there are 15 "front row first come, first serve spots" available.
- Restroom Facilities: While not explicitly detailed, campgrounds typically offer restroom facilities. The level of these facilities (e.g., flush toilets vs. vault toilets) is not mentioned in the reviews.
- Potable Water: As noted, potable water is available even after the water at RV sites is shut off for the colder months.
- Septic Dump Station: The presence of an accessible septic dump station is a significant amenity for RV campers.
- Playground: A playground is available, making the campground family-friendly and providing a dedicated space for children to play.
- Trash Disposal: Campgrounds generally provide trash receptacles. It's important to manage waste properly, especially given the presence of "bold" raccoons, as mentioned in a review, requiring food and garbage to be "sealed up tight."
- Lack of Wi-Fi: One reviewer explicitly mentions the absence of Wi-Fi as a drawback for longer stays, indicating that this amenity is not currently offered.
- No On-Site Sewage for Longer Stays: This is another point raised by a reviewer with an RV, highlighting that full hookups are not available.
It's important for local users to consider these points when planning their stay, especially regarding the availability of water and sewer hookups depending on the time of year and their camping setup.
Unique Features and Attractions of Salt Creek Campground: Salt Creek Campground offers several unique features that make it a compelling "camping near me" destination:
- Tongue Point Marine Life Sanctuary Location: Being situated within a marine sanctuary provides exceptional opportunities for observing coastal ecosystems and diverse marine life. Tide pooling is likely a major attraction here.
- Bunkers: One reviewer mentions the ability to "explore the shore and the bunkers," suggesting the presence of historical military bunkers in the area. These could offer a unique element of exploration and local history to the camping experience.
- Breathtaking Ocean Views: Multiple mentions of the "ocean view" emphasize the scenic beauty of the location, providing a stunning backdrop for camping.
- Coastal Exploration: The campground's location allows for extensive walks and exploration along the shoreline, with the potential for varied landscapes and discoveries.
- Family-Friendly: The presence of a playground makes it an appealing option for families with young children.
- Seasonal Appeal: The reviews highlight the different experiences offered throughout the year, with peak season being busy and October offering a quieter experience for exploring.
The combination of natural beauty, marine life, and historical elements makes Salt Creek Campground a distinctive destination for local campers seeking a coastal experience.

Salt Creek Campground Reviews
We would give 6 stars if available. BUT: We miss Wi-Fi and on site sewage for longer stays. That is just us. In our "Little House on the Freeway" we like to catch up on streaming movies/shows in the evening and eat out a meal or two. Yes, this park has all the daytime fun one can possible have on site and nearby! But there were no restaurants open outside of Port Angeles and we prefer not to drive 45 minutes round trip to eat. Our motorhome is a miniture version of the comfort and convienence of our home. At our age just walking 3 miles will do us in. I guess we prefer RV Resorts! But, cannot pass a once in a while visit to this kind of beautiful location!!!
Apr 24, 2025 · Rick LawrenceThis camp ground is amazing, I have never had a bad time at Salt Creek camp ground . Reservations go fast and you should reserve when the campground reservation system opens for the season if you want to go between April and September. They do have 15 front row first come , first serve spots. My absolute favorite time to camp is October . The camp ground is not busy and you can explore the shore and the bunkers with very few people . The ocean view is breath taking and the playground is perfect for the littles . You can walk forever and never get bored. Please note when camping after September the water at RV sites are shut off for the season . Potable water is available . Full hook ups are not available at any site but they do have an easy to use and access septic dump station .The raccoons are bold here so keep your food and garbage sealed up tight .
Oct 03, 2024 · heather NorbisrathGreat campground. The RV area has hook-ups but no privacy and limited to no views. The upper loop is dry camping, most sites are small, have views and are only suited to small RVs or tents. Bold raccoons everywhere, getting into everything that's not in your camper as soon as you turn your back. No stores nearby, so bring everything you need. Great spot for low tide but be prepared with good shoes -- there are lots of big rocks to climb down. Several good trails, very dog friendly area.
Jun 11, 2023 · Lara FishkinMagnificent views from non serviced camping area. A bit expensive at $45 a night no hook up. Grand location though.
Oct 08, 2024 · John O'Malley BurnsWe love this campground! Incredible views, great campsites, super friendly people. We have been here twice and just got FCFS sites both times (during the week in Aug and again in Sept). For out of county residents the non-utility sites that are FCFS are $45/night. There were plenty available.
