Greenbo Lake State Park Campground Introduce
For local residents in Kentucky and the surrounding areas seeking a family-oriented "camping near me" experience, Greenbo Lake State Park Campground, situated on Camping Ln in Greenup, KY 41144, offers a picturesque setting centered around the beautiful Greenbo Lake. This campground appears to be a popular destination for local families, creating a friendly and wholesome atmosphere where children can enjoy outdoor activities away from their screens. The presence of many kids, dogs, and golf carts suggests a vibrant and community-focused camping environment.
One of the standout features of Greenbo Lake State Park Campground is its access to Greenbo Lake itself. The lake is described as "great" with some accessible shoreline, providing opportunities for various water-based activities. Boating is permitted on the lake, with the stipulation that it's low-speed, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all. For those without their own boats, the campground offers the convenience of canoe and kayak rentals, allowing campers to explore the lake at their own pace and enjoy the scenic surroundings from the water.
The staff at Greenbo Lake State Park Campground receive high praise in the reviews, with one camper describing them as "outstanding." Friendly and helpful staff can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, contributing to a welcoming and positive atmosphere for all guests. This positive feedback suggests that visitors can expect good customer service during their stay.
The campsites themselves are noted to be large, providing ample space for setting up camp and enjoying the outdoor area. The hookups at the sites are also described as "great," indicating reliable connections for RV campers needing electricity and water. While one reviewer did not personally use the bathrooms or shower houses, they noted that these facilities "seemed nice and clean," suggesting that the campground maintains a reasonable standard of hygiene in these areas.
For families with young children, the presence of "nice playgrounds" is a significant advantage, offering dedicated spaces for kids to play and socialize. This amenity further reinforces the family-friendly nature of the campground and provides entertainment options for younger campers.
However, potential visitors should be aware of some downsides highlighted in the reviews to make an informed decision about their "camping near me" experience at Greenbo Lake State Park Campground. One significant complaint pertains to specific campsite locations. Site 60 was particularly problematic for one reviewer due to its close proximity to a dump station (15 feet) and a dumpster (20 feet), resulting in a "horrible" smell at times. This strongly suggests that potential campers should inquire about the location of their assigned site and specifically request to avoid sites near waste disposal areas to ensure a more pleasant stay.
Another area of concern raised by a reviewer involves the condition of the trails, which were reported as "not been cut and were knee high." This could significantly impact those planning to enjoy hiking around the lake and within the state park. It's advisable for campers interested in hiking to inquire about the current condition of the trails before their visit.
The rental pontoon boats are also mentioned as being "pretty beat up," which might be a disappointment for those planning to rent them for a more leisurely experience on the lake. Additionally, dogs are reportedly not allowed on these rental pontoon boats, which is important information for pet owners planning to utilize this amenity.
A significant logistical challenge mentioned is the distance between the campground and the lodge and pool areas. These facilities are described as "waaay too far to walk from the campground," and, surprisingly, golf carts are reportedly "not permitted on the road from the campground to the lodge." This lack of convenient access to the lodge and pool could be a major drawback for campers wishing to utilize these amenities, especially for families with children or individuals with mobility issues. It's unclear what alternative transportation options, if any, are available.
Finally, the Wi-Fi situation at the campground appears to be unreliable. One reviewer, an IT professional, described it as "totally useless," with inconsistent connectivity and internet access even when connected. While the reviewer did have one bar of Verizon coverage on their phone, sufficient for email, those relying on a stable internet connection for work or leisure should be aware of the potential limitations of the campground's Wi-Fi.
Currently, the provided information does not include any specific promotional offers or discounts for local users. To inquire about any such offers, as well as to get the most up-to-date information on campsite availability, trail conditions, boat rentals, and the accessibility of the lodge and pool, local residents should contact Greenbo Lake State Park Campground directly at (606) 473-7324 or +1 606-473-7324. Speaking with the campground staff will allow potential visitors to address any concerns and make informed decisions about their "camping near me" experience.
In conclusion, Greenbo Lake State Park Campground offers a family-friendly atmosphere with a great lake for boating and kayaking, playgrounds for children, and a friendly staff. The campsites are large with good hookups. However, potential campers should be mindful of the reported issues with specific campsite locations near waste disposal, the condition of hiking trails and rental pontoon boats, the lack of convenient access to the lodge and pool, and the unreliable Wi-Fi. By contacting the campground directly, local users can gain a clearer understanding of the current conditions and make the most of their camping getaway at Greenbo Lake State Park.

Greenbo Lake State Park Campground Reviews
Family campground. Mostly locals bringing all the kids, dogs, golf carts, etc. Friendly and wholesome to see kids outside doing anything other than phones. Lake is great with some shore access. Boating is low speeds and can rent canoes or kayaks. Staff are outstanding. The only complaint was our site (60) probably shouldn't exist. It was 15 feet from a dump station and 20 feet from a dumpster. The smell at times was horrible. Avoid that site and it's a great place.
Oct 08, 2024 · scott smithFriendly folks, everyone was very nice. Camp sites are large, hook ups are great. Did not use bathrooms or showerhouses, no opinion there but they seemed nice and clean. Nice playgrounds if you have kids.Zero issues with any of that. That was the good part. The downsides: 1. Trails had not been cut and were knee high. 2. Rental Pontoon boats are pretty beat up. 3. Dogs are not allowed on aforementioned beat up pontoon boats. 4. Lodge and pool are waaay too far to walk from the campground, and golf carts are not permitted on the road from the campground to the lodge. 5. You may or not be able to connect to the wifi, and if you do, you may or may not get internet. I'm an IT guy and it was totally useless. I did have 1 bar of Verizon coverage on my phone, good enough for email.
