Group Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Stoughton, Wisconsin, area and those searching for "camping near me" that can comfortably accommodate large groups, the Group Campground located on Group Camp Rd within Lake Kegonsa State Park offers an excellent solution. Situated at N 6590 Co Rd B, Stoughton, WI 53589, USA (based on the likely address of Lake Kegonsa State Park where the Group Campground is located), this camping area is specifically designed to cater to larger gatherings, providing spacious sites and a natural environment for memorable group camping experiences.
Based on a recent customer review, the Group Campground at Lake Kegonsa State Park boasts "very large group sites available." This is a significant feature for those planning family reunions, scout trips, church gatherings, or any other event requiring accommodation for numerous tents and people. The review specifically mentions that one group was able to set up eight tents with "plenty more room to set up at least four more," indicating the generous size of these campsites. This abundance of space allows for comfortable setup, communal areas, and room for activities within the campsite itself.
The environment of the Group Campground is closely tied to that of Lake Kegonsa State Park. State parks in Wisconsin are typically characterized by natural beauty, including woodlands, open spaces, and access to water bodies. Lake Kegonsa itself offers opportunities for water-based activities, although it's important to note that the review focuses on the camping area rather than direct lake access from the group sites. The presence of "plenty of trees for shade and rain," as mentioned in another review, suggests that the campsites are located in a wooded area, providing natural protection from the elements and contributing to a pleasant camping environment, especially during warmer months.
However, the second review also includes an important piece of information regarding the local environment: "Got chiggers bites from my last camping trip there." Chiggers are small mites that can cause itchy bites, particularly in grassy or wooded areas. This suggests that while the environment offers natural beauty and shade, campers should be aware of the potential presence of chiggers and take appropriate precautions, such as using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing, especially when venturing into grassy or wooded areas.
In terms of services and features specifically for the Group Campground, the large size of the campsites is a primary feature. This allows for logistical ease when camping with a significant number of people and tents. While the reviews don't explicitly detail other amenities at the group campsites, it's common for group campgrounds within state parks to offer certain basic facilities. These might include communal fire rings or grilling areas, picnic tables suitable for larger groups, and potentially shared water spigots. Restroom facilities and possibly shower facilities would typically be located within the vicinity of the campground, although they might be shared with other areas of the state park.
Lake Kegonsa State Park itself likely offers additional amenities that would be accessible to those staying at the Group Campground. These could include parking areas, hiking trails within the park, boat launches for accessing Lake Kegonsa, picnic areas separate from the campsites, and possibly playgrounds or other recreational facilities. The state park setting often provides a broader range of activities and conveniences beyond what is available directly at the individual campsites.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the repeated positive experience of one large family over the past three years suggests a consistent level of satisfaction with the Group Campground for its intended purpose. Their intent to "keep going there" speaks volumes about the suitability and appeal of this camping area for large groups. For local users seeking a reliable and spacious "camping near me" option for group outings, this testimonial serves as a form of positive word-of-mouth promotion.
For local residents considering the Group Campground at Lake Kegonsa State Park for their next large group camping trip, the information gleaned from the reviews is valuable. The spaciousness of the sites and the availability of shade are significant advantages. However, the mention of chigger bites highlights the importance of being prepared for the natural environment. It would be advisable to check the Lake Kegonsa State Park website or contact the park directly for more detailed information about the Group Campground, including specific amenities, reservation procedures, fees, and any recent advisories regarding insects or other environmental conditions.
In conclusion, the Group Campground at Lake Kegonsa State Park in Stoughton, WI, appears to be a well-suited "camping near me" option for large families and groups. The spacious, shaded campsites, as highlighted in the positive review, provide ample room for multiple tents and communal activities. While the presence of chiggers is a factor to be aware of, the overall positive experience of returning groups indicates that this campground offers a valuable and accommodating setting for those seeking to camp together in a natural Wisconsin state park environment. Local users planning a large group camping trip should consider Lake Kegonsa State Park's Group Campground for its capacity and natural setting, while also taking necessary precautions regarding potential insect encounters.

Lake Kagonsa State Park has been our large family's group camping site for the last 3 years... It has very large group sites available... We had 8 tents set up this year with plenty more room to set up at least 4 more... We will keep going there!
