While the reviews primarily focus on personal experiences and the enduring nature of the camp, they offer valuable insights into its environment, potential services, and unique features that might appeal to those seeking a distinctive "camping near me" destination.
Embrace the Enduring and Welcoming Environment by Lake Ripley
Willerup Bible Camp is situated near Lake Ripley, a significant feature highlighted in one of the reviews where the individual fondly recalls learning to swim in its waters. This suggests that access to Lake Ripley is a key environmental aspect of the camp, likely offering opportunities for swimming and other water-related activities. The reviews emphasize a sense of tradition and a welcoming atmosphere that has persisted over many years. One reviewer, who returned after over 30 years, noted that "besides a few upgrades is just as I remember," indicating a consistency in the camp's character and environment. The mention of "campfires" evokes images of communal gatherings and storytelling under the stars, a quintessential part of the camping experience. The overall environment seems to foster a sense of community and belonging, as highlighted by the reviewer who remembered everyone singing "Blessed be the Ties" before departure. The quiet and natural setting surrounding Lake Ripley likely contributes to a peaceful and reflective "camping near me" experience, away from the hustle and bustle of more commercial campgrounds.
Anticipate Services and Amenities Rooted in Community and Tradition
While the reviews are rich in personal anecdotes, they also provide clues about the services and amenities that might be available at Willerup Bible Camp. Given its history as a Bible camp, the focus is likely on creating a communal and supportive environment. Based on the memories shared, potential services and amenities could include:
- Lake access for swimming: The direct mention of learning to swim in Lake Ripley suggests that safe and accessible swimming areas are likely available for campers.
- Campfire areas: The recollection of "campfires" indicates designated spaces for communal gatherings around a fire, a central part of the camp experience.
- Potentially organized activities: The reference to "VBS-type Sunday schools" hints at the possibility of organized programs or activities, especially during certain times of the year, although these might be more focused on the camp's traditional mission.
- Canteen or snack area: The memory of a "canteen with the satellite-type sugar suckers" suggests a place where snacks and perhaps basic necessities might be available.
- Gathering spaces: Areas suitable for communal singing and fellowship, as indicated by the tradition of singing before departure.
- Basic camping facilities: While not explicitly detailed, it is reasonable to expect basic camping infrastructure such as designated campsites (for tents or possibly limited RVs), restroom facilities (which might be more rustic given the camp's history), and access to potable water.
- Upgraded facilities: The mention of "a few upgrades" suggests that while the camp retains its original charm, some modern improvements have been made over time to enhance guest comfort.
- The bell: The nostalgic mention of finally being old enough to ring the bell implies that the bell is a significant and perhaps symbolic feature of the camp, possibly used for announcements or to mark certain times.
It's important to note that as a Bible camp with a long history, the services and amenities might be more focused on fostering community and providing a simple, meaningful experience rather than extensive modern conveniences.

Willerup Bible Camp Reviews
I went to this camp about 40 yrs ago. Best memories of my life. Julie Delvis
Feb 22, 2025 · Julie DelvisI grew up here, every summer for a week with my family. Learned to swim in Lake Ripley. I remember the campfires, the VBS-type Sunday schools, the canteen with the satellite-type sugar suckers, and everyone singing Blessed be the Ties before we left. This is the first time back in over 30 years. Besides a few upgrades is just as I remember. I love it here! And I'm finally old enough to ring the bell!!! 😁
