For local users in search of a unique "camping near me" experience, particularly those involved in scouting or looking for group accommodations and winter camping opportunities, Hoard Curtis Scout Camp, located at N4189 Island Ln, Cambridge, WI 53523, USA, offers a distinctive option. While identified as a scout camp, the positive reviews suggest that its facilities, especially the cabin, may be available for rental by other groups or individuals at certain times. For the most accurate information regarding availability and booking, please contact them directly at (920) 563-6083 or their mobile number +1 920-563-6083.
The environment of Hoard Curtis Scout Camp appears to be well-suited for outdoor activities throughout the year. One reviewer mentions the camp looking "great & ready for winter campers!" and notes the presence of "a lot of wood for fires" and the anticipation of "snow ... for sledding." This paints a picture of a potentially wooded or open area in Wisconsin that experiences snowfall, making it attractive for winter camping enthusiasts and those interested in snow-based recreational activities. The abundance of firewood suggests that campfires are permitted and encouraged (subject to local regulations and camp rules), enhancing the cozy winter camping experience. The fact that the camp is preparing for winter campers indicates that it is equipped to handle colder weather conditions, although specific details on winterized facilities should be confirmed directly with the camp.
One of the standout features of Hoard Curtis Scout Camp, as highlighted by a recurring visitor, is an "amazing and big cabin." This cabin seems to offer a level of comfort and comprehensive amenities that go beyond typical camping shelters. The reviewer details that the cabin has a "full, intact kitchen w/kitchen door," which is a significant advantage for groups wanting to prepare their own meals indoors. The presence of a kitchen door suggests a separation between the cooking area and other parts of the cabin, potentially helping to contain cooking odors and maintain a more comfortable living space.
The cabin also includes sleeping accommodations with a "backroom with cots" and a "very big main room," indicating ample space for larger groups to sleep comfortably. This setup makes the cabin particularly well-suited for scout troops, family gatherings, or other group outings. The availability of cots suggests a more organized and comfortable sleeping arrangement compared to sleeping directly on the floor.
Furthermore, the cabin is equipped with practical amenities such as a "changing room w/2 showers" and separate "girls and boys bathroom." These facilities add a significant level of convenience and comfort, especially for longer stays or larger groups, eliminating the need for reliance solely on potentially more rustic outdoor facilities. The presence of separate bathrooms for boys and girls is particularly beneficial for youth groups and promotes privacy.
The reviewer also mentions a "mud room" and a "separate room for what ever you want it as." A mudroom is a valuable feature in any outdoor setting, providing a space to remove and store wet or dirty gear, helping to keep the main living areas of the cabin clean. The additional separate room offers flexibility and can be used for various purposes, such as storage, a meeting room, or additional sleeping space depending on the group's needs.
Beyond the cabin itself, the reviewer notes that "Their is a bunch if land to play on," suggesting that the camp encompasses a significant outdoor area suitable for various recreational activities. This open land would be ideal for games, group activities, and simply enjoying the outdoors. The mention of "very nice tant shelters" indicates that the camp also provides more traditional camping options in addition to the cabin. These tent shelters likely offer a more basic form of accommodation for those who prefer sleeping outdoors while still providing some structure and protection from the elements.
The recurring positive experience of the reviewer, who goes to the cabin "every winter at least twice with my troop" and always has "a blast," serves as a strong testimonial to the camp's appeal, particularly for group winter outings. The enthusiastic recommendation ("I would definitely recommend it") further underscores the positive experiences of those who have used the facilities.
While specific promotional offers are not mentioned, the detailed description of the cabin's amenities and the availability of land for play, along with the positive review highlighting its suitability for group winter camping and the presence of tent shelters, acts as a strong form of implicit promotion. For local scout troops or other groups seeking a well-equipped cabin with kitchen, bathroom, and shower facilities, along with ample outdoor space and potential for winter activities like sledding, Hoard Curtis Scout Camp appears to be an excellent option.
