Long Point Campground Introduce
For local residents searching for "camping near me" in the Milford, California area, Long Point Campground, located off Lower Bucks Lane, presents a lakeside camping option. However, it is crucial to consider all available feedback to make an informed decision. While the lake itself receives positive comments, a significant negative review regarding the camp hosts warrants careful attention.
The Lake Experience: A Positive Aspect
One consistent positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the lake associated with Long Point Campground. Described as a "nice small lake," it is also noted to be "big enough for water skiing," indicating a sufficient size for various water sports. Even on a warm Saturday, one reviewer observed that there were "not a lot of boats on the water," potentially offering a less crowded experience for those looking to enjoy water activities. The lake features both shallow areas and larger open areas reaching depths of about 50 feet, providing diverse conditions for different uses, from wading near the shore to deeper waters for boating and skiing.
This positive description of the lake suggests that Long Point Campground could be appealing to those who enjoy water-based recreation. The opportunity for water skiing on a relatively uncrowded lake is a notable feature for enthusiasts of this sport. The presence of both shallow and deep areas also makes it suitable for families with children who might prefer shallower waters for playing.
The Group Campsites: Described as Nice
Focusing on the campground itself, one reviewer specifically commented on the "campsites in the group area," describing them as "nice." This suggests that the designated group camping facilities were well-maintained and suitable for accommodating larger parties. The area was noted to be "mostly flat for tents," which is a significant advantage for tent campers seeking comfortable setup. The presence of "two BBQ pits, one large fire pit, and three picnic tables" in the group area indicates that it was well-equipped for group gatherings, providing essential amenities for cooking, socializing around a fire, and enjoying meals together.
Furthermore, the "big trees" providing "a lot of shade" are a significant benefit, especially during the warmer months in California. Ample shade can make a campsite much more comfortable and enjoyable by reducing exposure to direct sunlight. The paved road into the campsite area with "room for 4 vehicles" also suggests ease of access and sufficient parking for groups staying in that section.
These positive aspects of the group campsites make Long Point Campground potentially attractive for families or groups planning a camping trip together, offering practical amenities and a comfortable environment.
A Major Negative Experience with Camp Hosts: A Serious Concern
However, a severely negative review paints a concerning picture of the camp hosts. The reviewer labeled them as "lazy Karen's" and recounted a distressing incident involving their dogs being bitten by another dog. According to the review, the camp hosts were "pissed that they were woken up" by the incident and allegedly failed to take any appropriate action. The reviewer stated that the hosts "didn't call animal control or police or anything" and were seemingly indifferent to the fact that the reviewer had blood on them. The reviewer concluded with a strong warning: "DO NOT COME HERE!!!"
This review raises significant concerns about the responsiveness and responsibility of the camp hosts in handling serious incidents. The alleged lack of action following a dog bite, especially one resulting in injury to another camper, is a serious issue that could impact the safety and well-being of other visitors. The apparent indifference of the hosts, as described, is also troubling and suggests a lack of care for the campers' welfare.
Overall Assessment and Considerations for Local Users:
For local users considering Long Point Campground based on the "camping near me" category, there are both positive and significant negative points to weigh. The lake itself appears to be a notable attraction, suitable for water skiing and offering a less crowded experience. The group campsites are described as nice, flat for tents, well-equipped with BBQ pits, a fire pit, and picnic tables, and benefit from ample shade and easy access.
However, the severely negative review regarding the camp hosts cannot be ignored. The alleged mishandling of a dog bite incident and the perceived lack of concern for camper safety are serious red flags. While this is only one review, it is a firsthand account of a potentially unsafe and poorly managed situation. The behavior described is not typical of responsible campground hosts, who should be expected to assist in emergencies and ensure a safe environment for all campers.
Recommendations for Local Campers:
Given the conflicting information, local users should exercise extreme caution when considering Long Point Campground. If you are planning a group trip and the described amenities of the group area are appealing, you might want to seek further information or recent reviews to determine if the management or camp hosts have changed or if other campers have had similar negative experiences.
It would be prudent to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers, (530) 283-0555 or +1 530-283-0555, to inquire about the current status of the camp hosts and their policies regarding pet safety and incident management. Asking specific questions about emergency procedures and how they handle issues involving other campers or animals might provide valuable insight.
Alternatively, local campers might want to explore other campgrounds in the Milford area that have more consistently positive reviews regarding both their facilities and their management. While Long Point Campground offers a nice lake and potentially good group camping amenities, the serious concerns raised about the camp hosts' responsiveness to safety issues should not be taken lightly.
Conclusion: Proceed with Caution
In conclusion, Long Point Campground near Milford, CA, offers the appeal of a nice lake suitable for water skiing and well-equipped group campsites with shade. However, a significant negative review detailing a concerning lack of action and indifference from the camp hosts following a dog bite incident raises serious safety concerns. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully weigh these factors and consider seeking further information or exploring alternative campgrounds in the area to ensure a safe and enjoyable camping experience. The strong negative feedback warrants significant caution before choosing Long Point Campground for your next outdoor adventure.

Jul 29, 2024 · Akiiko ToshiReally neat spot by a lake. Campsites were large, shaded, and far apart. Could swim in lake. Other families were fishing and boating. We saw our first bear ever here! Our neighbors said it was a "small bear."Rustic. Pit toilets. Don't remember if there was water.
