Laufman Campground Introduce
For local users in search of "camping near me" that offers a more rustic and secluded experience, Laufman Campground, located off Mulock Rd in Brownsville, CA 95919, presents an intriguing option. This small, lesser-known campground is described by visitors as a "cool, hidden gem" offering a unique environment for those seeking tranquility and access to off-road vehicle trails. You can reach them at (530) 836-2575 or +1 530-836-2575 for any potential inquiries, although given its nature, direct booking might not be the standard procedure.
The environment at Laufman Campground is characterized by its seclusion and natural beauty. Surrounded by trees, the campground offers a sense of privacy and immersion in nature. One reviewer was surprised by how spacious and quiet the campground is, emphasizing the peaceful atmosphere. The smaller size of the campground, with only five sites, further contributes to the feeling of being away from the crowds. The terrain in most places is reported to be fairly level, potentially accommodating a range of camping setups. One visitor even speculated that careful maneuvering could allow an RV to access the sites. However, the overall impression is that this campground is geared towards those seeking a more primitive and natural camping experience.
A significant feature of the environment surrounding Laufman Campground is its proximity to trails suitable for off-road vehicles such as dirt bikes and ATVs. One reviewer explicitly recommends this location for enthusiasts of such activities, highlighting the availability of riding trails. This suggests that the area around the campground is conducive to outdoor adventure beyond traditional camping, making it a draw for a specific type of user seeking both a campsite and access to recreational trails.
In terms of services and facilities, Laufman Campground offers basic amenities suitable for a more self-sufficient camping style. There is a single vault toilet available for campers. Each of the five sites is equipped with a pit with a grill for cooking and picnic tables, providing essential infrastructure for meal preparation and dining. However, a crucial piece of information is that there is no water available at the campground. This necessitates that all visitors must bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and hygiene. This lack of on-site water is a significant factor to consider when planning a trip to Laufman Campground.
Features of Laufman Campground are primarily centered around its natural setting, privacy, and access to off-road trails. The spaciousness of the individual campsites is a notable feature, allowing campers to spread out and enjoy their surroundings without feeling cramped. The quiet atmosphere, likely due to the limited number of sites and its somewhat hidden location, is another key feature for those seeking a peaceful retreat. The shade provided by the surrounding trees is also a benefit, with one reviewer noting that it felt about 10 degrees cooler at the campground compared to the surrounding area, even in almost August. Additionally, there are reportedly additional cleared spaces suitable for tents beyond the main designated sites, offering flexibility for different camping setups.
Perhaps one of the most appealing features of Laufman Campground, as mentioned by one reviewer, is that the price is "right...free." This indicates that camping at Laufman Campground is currently free of charge. Free camping opportunities can be highly sought after, making this a significant draw for budget-conscious local users. However, it's important to note that free campgrounds often come with fewer amenities and may have less frequent maintenance compared to paid campgrounds. The lack of water at Laufman Campground aligns with this expectation.
Given its remote and rustic nature, promotional information for Laufman Campground is unlikely to be extensive. As a free campground with minimal facilities, it likely relies on word-of-mouth and online mentions from users who have discovered it. Local users interested in the most up-to-date information should contact the provided phone number. While it might not be a reservation line, it could provide insights into the current conditions of the campground and any regulations in place. It's also advisable to check relevant online forums or camping websites where users share information about free and dispersed camping areas in California.
In conclusion, Laufman Campground offers a unique "camping near me" experience for local users who prioritize seclusion, space, and access to off-road vehicle trails. The free camping aspect is a significant advantage, but it comes with the responsibility of being entirely self-sufficient, particularly regarding water. The campground provides basic amenities like a vault toilet, picnic tables, and fire pits/grills. The quiet and tree-surrounded environment offers a peaceful escape. However, potential visitors should be prepared for a more primitive camping experience and ensure they bring all necessary supplies, especially water. For dirt bike and ATV enthusiasts in the Brownsville area, Laufman Campground appears to be a hidden gem offering both a basecamp and immediate access to recreational trails. Its small size and free nature suggest it might be subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis.

Laufman Campground Reviews
Very cool, hidden campground. There's only 5 sites and 1 bathroom but no water. If you're looking for trails to go riding on dirt bike, atv or whatever rocks your world, this is the spot.
Jun 17, 2024 · Aleksandr LyubezhaninI was surprised how spacious and quiet this campground is. Your surrounded by tree's. Has a pit with grill for cooking, picnic tables and even a toilet. Fairly level in most places. You could probably get an RV in here if you're careful. I drove my car in today to check it out. I swear it must be about 10 degrees cooler here. Very private and clean with additional cleared spaces for tents. The campground is clean, bonus. It's almost August, creek is dry from the mountain snow run off. This place is a gem, you can't go wrong. The price is right...free.
Mar 10, 2020 · FloydAlan Hoyt1 pit toilet and a handful of compact free campsites. Tucked up in the canyon with some aspens. Protected from the wind. Picnic table, fire ring, flat spot for a tent and car space at each site.
Jul 07, 2019 · Damon TigheSecluded and quiet. Green this time of year, but dry. Toilet was clean. Some of the spots are small.
May 30, 2021 · Dominic PerrenThis campground has now been essentially abandoned. A sign says free, take our your garbage. The pit toilet is unused. The spaces are overgrown and not being maintained. It could be and might have been a nice tiny space but now I wouldn't recommend it unless you have a reason to go up that canyon. It was quiet, no one came up that way. It got shady and cool by 5 PM on an otherwise very hot day. But there's nothing there anymore.
