Based on recent customer reviews, Honey Lake Campground offers a generally pleasant and accommodating experience with scenic views, although potential visitors should be aware of some minor drawbacks.
Environment and Location: Lakeside Views with Wildlife and Some Traffic Noise
Honey Lake Campground is situated in Milford, CA, suggesting a location with proximity to Honey Lake. One of the standout features mentioned in a review is the "beautiful view of lake and mountains," indicating a picturesque setting that can enhance the camping experience. The presence of a lake often implies opportunities for water-related activities, although the reviews do not specifically detail these for the campground itself.
The environment around the campsites seems to be natural and potentially semi-rural. One reviewer noted the presence of "birds, a horse, and goats near our spot," which adds a unique and potentially charming element to the stay, especially for those who enjoy observing animals. This suggests a setting that is integrated with some local agricultural or rural elements.
However, one reviewer mentioned "some traffic noise," indicating that the campground might be located near a road where vehicle sounds can be noticeable. While this didn't detract significantly from their overall quiet and cozy experience, it is something that light sleepers or those particularly sensitive to noise might want to consider.
Another reviewer noted a "bit of sewer odor if wind blew certain direction." This suggests a potential issue with the campground's septic or sewer system that might occasionally affect the air quality in certain areas under specific wind conditions. While this seems to be intermittent, it is a factor to be aware of.
Overall, the environment of Honey Lake Campground appears to be generally pleasant, with scenic lake and mountain views and the potential for wildlife encounters. However, proximity to a road may result in some traffic noise, and there is a possibility of occasional sewer odors.
Services and Amenities: Friendly Host, Basic Store, and Restrooms with Showers

- Friendly and Accommodating Host: Sandy, the host, is specifically praised as "great and very accommodating." Positive interactions with campground staff can significantly enhance the guest experience, making visitors feel welcome and well-cared for.
- Basic Store: The presence of a "good basic store" is mentioned, which would be convenient for campers who need to purchase essential supplies without having to travel far. The specifics of what the store stocks are not detailed, but it likely includes common camping necessities.
- Restrooms with Showers: The availability of "restrooms with showers" is a significant amenity, especially for longer stays or for travelers who appreciate having access to proper hygiene facilities. The condition and cleanliness of these facilities are not explicitly mentioned in the positive review.
- Pet-Friendly Atmosphere: The friendly interaction with a gentleman staying there with his dog suggests that the campground is likely pet-friendly, which is a significant draw for those traveling with animals.
- RV Friendly: One reviewer mentioned being "lined up with other MH (motorhomes)," indicating that the campground is equipped to accommodate RVs, likely with appropriate hookups (though not explicitly stated).
The reviews do not mention other potential amenities such as laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, fire pits, or picnic tables. Given the description as a "good basic store" and "restrooms with showers," the overall amenity level seems to cater to essential needs rather than offering extensive luxuries.
Features and Potential Attractions: Lakeside Scenery and a Sense of Community
The key features and potential attractions of Honey Lake Campground include:
- Scenic Views: The "beautiful view of lake and mountains" is a major draw, offering a visually appealing backdrop for camping.
- Quiet and Cozy Atmosphere (Generally): Despite the traffic noise mentioned by one reviewer, another described the spot as "very quiet and cozy," suggesting that the overall ambiance is typically peaceful and comfortable.
- Wildlife Encounters: The presence of birds, a horse, and goats near the campsites offers a unique and enjoyable experience for nature lovers.
- Friendly Community: The positive interactions with the host and other longer-term guests ("gentleman who looked to be staying there a bit with dog right next to us very nice") suggest a welcoming and friendly community atmosphere within the campground.
- Proximity to Yosemite (for Travelers): One reviewer was using the campground as an overnight stop on the way to Yosemite National Park, indicating its potential as a convenient location for travelers heading to this major attraction. This might also suggest proximity to other scenic or recreational areas in the region.
However, one significant negative incident was reported: a "person 3-4 rigs down, drunk, loud, yelling on and off obscenely for an hour." The fact that "no action taken after several people staying longer went to have words" raises concerns about the campground's management of disruptive guests and the enforcement of quiet hours or rules of conduct. While this might have been an isolated incident, potential guests should be aware that such disturbances can occur and might not be promptly addressed.

Honey Lake Campground Milford, CA Reviews
Some traffic noise, but otherwise a very quiet and cozy spot. Had birds, a horse, and goats near our spot which was nice. Sandy is great and very accommodating. Stayed here one month.
Nov 01, 2024 · JessStopped by for night on way to Yosemite, good spot lined up with other MH and beautiful view of lake and mountains, friendly greeting, good basic store and restrooms with showers. Main issues was with person 3-4 rigs down, drunk, loud, yelling on and off obscenely for an hour. No action taken after several people staying longer went to have words. He finally drove off somewhere. There was a bit of sewer odor if wind blew certain direction. Otherwise, gentleman who looked to be staying there a bit with dog right next to us very nice.
Oct 20, 2024 · Greg ThielenThis is such a great little stop over. The staff are delightful and the park looks out over a lake. Big trees provide shade and wildlife wander through often. Sites are mostly level and they have a little emergency store if you need anything. Great price. Great management. Clean and quiet.
Jul 22, 2024 · Melonie PurcellWonderful experience, friendly and welcoming, excellent overnight rates. Robust DVD rental selection! Beer/wine/snacks available at the office. I'd love to stay here again anytime.
Sep 09, 2024 · William FaulknerWe came here with no reservation on a Friday and the front desk lady was very accommodating and helpful. This is a quiet campground with beautiful views of Honey Lake and the mountains behind it. You also can’t beat the price. $29 for water and electric, that’s the cheapest I’ve found traveling the country for 2 years. Overall a 5-star customer experience!
