For local adventurers seeking the perfect "camping near me" experience in the vicinity of Hartwell, Georgia, Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday presents an appealing option. Situated at 330 Hart State Park Rd, Hartwell, GA 30643, USA, this campground leverages its prime location on the shores of the renowned Lake Hartwell, offering a blend of natural beauty and the trusted services associated with the KOA (Kampgrounds of America) brand.
Environment and Location: The most significant draw of Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday is undoubtedly its stunning lakeside setting. Lake Hartwell, a vast and picturesque reservoir on the Georgia-South Carolina border, is a popular destination for boating, fishing, swimming, and general outdoor recreation. The campground's location directly on Hart State Park Road strongly suggests immediate or very close access to the lake, providing campers with opportunities for waterfront activities and scenic views. The mature trees and natural surroundings typical of the Lake Hartwell area likely contribute to a beautiful and enjoyable camping environment.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday’s address in Hartwell, GA, makes it easily accessible for residents in Northeast Georgia and potentially parts of South Carolina. The allure of lakeside camping so close to home can be a powerful motivator for weekend getaways, family vacations, or simply a refreshing escape to nature.
Services and Features (Based on KOA Standards and Customer Reviews): As part of the KOA Holiday tier, Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday likely offers a comprehensive range of services and amenities designed for a comfortable and convenient camping experience. Based on general KOA standards and the insights from customer reviews, we can anticipate the following:
- Variety of Campsites: KOA campgrounds typically offer diverse campsite options to cater to different needs. This likely includes:
- RV Sites: These sites often feature full hookups (water, electricity, and sewer), level pads, and ample space for various RV sizes. One customer noted a potential challenge with the dump station layout for larger 5th wheel campers, which is a point to consider for those with very large rigs.
- Tent Sites: Designated areas for tent camping, potentially offering water access nearby and a comfortable ground for pitching tents.
- Cabin Rentals: KOA Holidays often feature cabin accommodations for those seeking a more structured lodging option while still enjoying the campground atmosphere.
- Restroom and Shower Facilities: Clean and well-maintained restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers are standard at KOA campgrounds.
- Laundry Facilities: Coin-operated or card-operated laundry facilities are usually available for added convenience, especially for longer stays.
- Campground Store: While one reviewer noted that the store is "very small for a KOA," it likely still provides essential camping supplies, snacks, drinks, and perhaps some souvenirs.
- Recreational Amenities: Given its "Holiday" designation and lakeside location, Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday likely offers a variety of recreational activities. These might include:
- Lake Access: Direct or very close access to Lake Hartwell for swimming, fishing, and potentially boating (though boat rentals or docking facilities at the campground are not explicitly mentioned).
- Hiking Trails: One reviewer specifically mentioned looking forward to exploring more of the hiking trails, indicating their presence near the campground.
- Playground: A playground for children is a common amenity at family-friendly campgrounds like KOA Holidays.
- Swimming Pool (Potentially): Many KOA Holiday locations feature a swimming pool for guests to enjoy.
- Other Games and Activities: This could include things like basketball courts, volleyball nets, or organized campground activities, though these are not explicitly mentioned in the reviews.
- Dump Station: As noted by a reviewer, a dump station is available for RV users, although its horseshoe road layout might present a challenge for very large 5th wheel campers.
- Wi-Fi Access (Likely): Many KOA campgrounds offer Wi-Fi for guests, although the quality and coverage can vary.
Customer Feedback Analysis: The provided customer reviews offer valuable insights into the experience at Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday. The first reviewer, with a long history at the location, speaks positively about the overall experience, particularly enjoying returning with family. They acknowledge some areas needing updates and grass cutting but emphasize the continued beauty and enjoyability of the campground.
The second reviewer provides a more detailed perspective, highlighting several positive aspects while also pointing out areas for potential improvement. They "really enjoyed" their time but noted that the store was smaller than expected for a KOA, the staff interaction was less than their previous KOA experiences, and their lakeside view was somewhat obstructed by a dock and boat yard. This suggests that while the location is indeed lakeside, the specific view from individual campsites can vary. The reviewer also appreciated the hiking trails and expressed intent to return and explore more. The observation about the dump station's horseshoe road layout is a practical note for owners of large RVs.
Overall, the reviews suggest that Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday offers a generally positive camping experience, particularly due to its location on Lake Hartwell and the availability of recreational activities like hiking. However, potential guests should be aware that the store might be smaller than at some other KOA locations, and the level of staff interaction might vary. Additionally, specific campsite views can differ, and those with very large RVs should take note of the dump station layout.

Hartwell Lakeside KOA Holiday Reviews
I practically grew up on this lake & at this campground, before it was KOA. Coming back when I can, is always a fabulous experience...especially with family. The campground has changed some, mostly for the better. There were a couple of things that need to be updated & grass that needs cutting...etc...but it's still beautiful & enjoyable!
Apr 23, 2025 · Gailey44kI really enjoyed my time here. I only had a couple things on why it's not 5 stars. The store is very small for a KOA, the staff was not as interactive as most KOA I have been to, and my lakeside view was of a dock and boat yard. I am sure there are better spots to pick from, but this was my first visit. I will be back in the future for sure to check out more of the hiking trails. Overall a great place. I will also note the dump station is on a kind of horseshoe road which may be difficult for the larger 5th wheel campers. I will update my review when I go back and explore more!
Nov 28, 2024 · Strive For HappinessThis is one of the best camping places we have been to. Hartwell lakeside KOA has excellent camping options. Great Lake views. Restrooms are clean. Kids play area. Dog park. Variety of sites to fit your camping preferences. The staff is really friendly and provide great service. We have camped here 3 times and always recommend to our friends and family. I would anytime come back and camp here.
Apr 15, 2024 · pankaj goreI wanted to love this campground so desperately. It was the most beautiful and affordable site we've ever camped at, but that's where it ends. We had to park and hike into our site, which we didn't expect. That's why we book with KOA, and not more primitive grounds. Imagine carrying a Yeti down a staircase and across a peninsula to your site, along with your other luggage. Then back to your car again in the early morning. Also, the bathroom was a very long walk from our site, and there was no toilet paper in the entire bathroom this morning. Here I am finding a clean bathroom on the way to my next destination...Lastly, one neighbor site was loud and using excessive profanity, and our other neighbors showed up at 11pm and kept us up off and on until 3am. I know this isn't the campgrounds' fault, but there are usually employees around to shut that behavior down.
Apr 13, 2025 · Stephanie DinesWe love staying in the cabins and have rented them several times for family events. Checking in and out is always a breeze. Cabins are always clean. A+
