Hearts Content Campground Introduce
Looking for a rustic camping experience near you? Consider Hearts Content Campground, located on an Unnamed Road in Tidioute, PA 16351, USA. While there is no phone number provided, this campground offers a back-to-nature experience within the scenic Allegheny National Forest. Based on feedback from local campers, Hearts Content Campground is a well-maintained area that serves as an excellent base for enjoying the surrounding natural beauty and particularly the nearby hiking trails.
For local users seeking "camping near me" that offers a more traditional and less developed camping experience, Hearts Content Campground provides a rustic retreat. Reviews from campers highlight its appeal for those looking to immerse themselves in nature. The campground is located within Allegheny National Forest, suggesting an environment rich in natural beauty, including mature forests and diverse wildlife. The proximity to hiking trails, both long and short, is a significant advantage for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy exploring the wilderness on foot. One reviewer specifically mentioned the benefit of having these trails easily accessible from the campground.
The camping experience at Hearts Content Campground is described as basic, which is important for local users to note if they prefer sites with amenities. All campsites are without water or electricity hookups, emphasizing a more self-sufficient camping style. However, the majority of the sites are reported to be large, providing ample space for pitching tents and setting up camp. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, essential elements for a traditional camping experience, offering convenience for meals and campfires. A unique feature of some campsites is the presence of a small three-sided shelter, which can be used as an alternative to a tent, providing a degree of protection from the elements while still maintaining an open-air feel.
In terms of facilities, Hearts Content Campground offers vault toilets for campers. It's important to be aware that these facilities do not have electricity for lighting, reinforcing the rustic nature of the campground. However, campers have noted that the vault toilets are kept clean, which is a significant aspect of maintaining a comfortable camping environment despite the lack of modern amenities. The absence of running water at the individual campsites means that campers will need to bring their own water supply for drinking, cooking, and washing.
A crucial piece of information for local users planning to visit Hearts Content Campground is the operating season. According to one review, the season appears to start around June 1st. A visit in May revealed that the water had not yet been turned on, and there was no camp host present. This suggests that essential services might be limited or unavailable outside of the peak season. Therefore, local campers planning an early or late season trip should be prepared for potentially fewer amenities and the absence of on-site staff. It would be advisable to check with the Allegheny National Forest administration for the specific operating dates and any potential changes to services.
Despite the basic amenities, Hearts Content Campground offers some notable features that enhance the camping experience. One of the highlights mentioned by a reviewer is that it's a "great place to stargaze!" The remote location within the national forest, away from significant light pollution, likely provides excellent conditions for observing the night sky. This can be a significant draw for local astronomy enthusiasts or anyone who appreciates the beauty of a star-filled night.
Another positive aspect highlighted by a first-time visitor to Allegheny State Park (who stayed at Hearts Content) was the overall great location. The proximity to hiking trails, both long and short, was seen as a major benefit, catering to different levels of hiking experience and interest. This accessibility to outdoor recreation is a key feature for local users looking to combine camping with hiking and exploring the natural surroundings. However, one reviewer did mention that their specific site lacked privacy, suggesting that the level of privacy can vary between different campsites within Hearts Content. It might be beneficial for local campers making reservations to inquire about site characteristics if privacy is a significant concern.
The availability of firewood was also mentioned as a positive aspect contributing to a nice trip. Having firewood available within the campground or nearby can be convenient for campfires, which are often a central part of the camping experience. The fact that the campground was described as "well maintained" suggests that the National Forest Service takes care in keeping the grounds in good condition for visitors, contributing to a pleasant and safe camping environment.
In conclusion, Hearts Content Campground offers a rustic camping experience within the beautiful Allegheny National Forest near Tidioute, PA. It is particularly well-suited for local users who appreciate a more traditional camping style without water or electricity hookups and who are interested in hiking and enjoying the natural environment. The campground boasts large, well-maintained sites with picnic tables and fire pits, and some even have three-sided shelters. While the vault toilets lack electricity, they are reported to be clean. The campground's proximity to hiking trails and its reputation as a great place for stargazing add to its appeal. However, potential visitors should be aware of the seasonal operation, with limited services potentially available outside of the peak season (around June 1st onwards), and the basic nature of the amenities. For local campers seeking a peaceful and nature-focused getaway, Hearts Content Campground provides a valuable option within the "camping near me" category.

Hearts Content Campground Reviews
Had a very nice time camping and enjoying the nearby hiking trails. We were there with the Boy Scouts in one of the Group Camps. The campground was well maintained. However some of the picnic tables in the group site are long past the useful life! All campsites are basic with no water or electricity. Most of the sites were large with a table and a fire pit. Some sites had a small three sided shelter that can be used instead of a tent. There are vault toilets available, but again, no electricity for a light. But they were clean! The season must start June 1. We were there in May and the water had not been turned on there was no camp host.Great place to stargaze!
May 21, 2023 · Michael HillmanThis was our first experience visiting and camping in Allegheny state park and it was a great location. We would probably pick a different site within heart's content next time, as ours didn't provide too much privacy. Overall though the grounds and available firewood made for a nice trip. The close proximity to hiking trails, both long and short, was also beneficial. I
Jun 24, 2021 · Tony G.What to know. The surrounding area is amazing. The old growth forest is likely one of our greatest national natural treasures east of the Mississippi. For such a majestic place, you'd figure the campground would be commensurate with affording a modest primitive approach to camping however be forewarned. Our camping experience over Labor day weekend was less than relaxing, having only about an hour or so during the day when you don't hear the constant drone of generators from city folk that tow their houses out to this magnificient forest. Campsites are right on top of each other. USFS needs to rethink the layout for this campsite so people aren't so close to one another and restrict the use of generators. Quite honestly, this should be a primitive only campground. Why drive out to the wilderness to spend hours in the AC of your camper running a noisy generator? Just stay home. Bathrooms were okay even though we don't usually need that type of amenity when camping. Things are a bit run down likely due to the USFS not investing in this day use area. I work in the same field for a nearby state agency and I'm not trying to be "one of those guys", but there are some glaring problems that need to be addressed at the campsite near this amazing natural area. It's not horrible but it could be much, much better.
Sep 05, 2023 · Adam “Mackerel Man”Ok campground but when we showed up owner was out to dinner so we had to wait for him to return since he didn’t give us a site when we called. We tried to call him but messages was full. Then he helped up back up but was not helping as he was telling us wrong way to turn and we are fine with backing up a camper. We paid the same as our friends although they had sewer and we did not. Not a place I would want to go back to ever. It was ok area for a one night just place to sleep.
Jul 26, 2023 · Tracy StevensVery quiet campground with lots of good hiking trails nearby. The host sold ice for a couple bucks, which was nice. Cell service was intermittent, but available. Our fire ring was mangled and barely usable. The sites are very shaded and level.
