Helende Campground Introduce
For local residents and travelers searching for "camping near me" in the scenic Lowman area of Idaho, Helende Campground offers a clean and conveniently located option within the Boise National Forest. Situated on Forest Rd 025JB, Lowman, ID 83637, USA, and reachable by phone at (208) 259-3361 or +1 208-259-3361, Helende Campground has received positive feedback for its well-maintained facilities and its proximity to both the Payette River and nearby hot springs. This campground appears to be a solid choice for those looking to enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities that the Lowman region of Idaho has to offer.
One of the primary highlights mentioned by visitors is the cleanliness of Helende Campground. The description of it as a "nice, clean campground" suggests that the facilities are well-cared for, contributing to a more pleasant and comfortable camping experience. Cleanliness is often a top priority for campers, and this positive feedback indicates that Helende Campground meets these expectations. The well-maintained nature of the facilities is further corroborated by another comment noting that while "pumping the water is a chore," the facilities overall were in good condition. This implies the presence of a manual water pump as the primary source of potable water, which, while requiring some effort, is a functional amenity.
The environment surrounding Helende Campground is another significant draw. Its location within walking distance of the Payette River is a major advantage for those who enjoy riverside activities, the soothing sounds of flowing water, and the scenic beauty of the river corridor. The Payette River is known for its stunning landscapes and opportunities for fishing, rafting, and simply enjoying the water's edge. Additionally, the campground is conveniently located "just a short drive away from some hot springs," a renowned attraction in the Lowman area. The proximity to these natural hot springs provides campers with the opportunity to relax and rejuvenate in the mineral-rich waters, adding a unique and appealing element to their camping trip.
Helende Campground also caters to pet owners, as it is described as "dog friendly." This is a significant feature for many campers who enjoy bringing their canine companions along on their outdoor adventures. A dog-friendly environment often implies the availability of space for dogs and perhaps even specific guidelines or areas where dogs are welcome, though specific details about leash rules or pet-specific amenities are not provided.
However, one humorous yet important aspect highlighted by a visitor is the presence of bold chipmunks. They are described as being prone to "rob anything left unattended on a table," including seemingly secure items like "donuts in a box and a can of nuts." This serves as a friendly warning to campers to be diligent about food storage and securing any loose items, especially when leaving their campsite for more than a few minutes. Taking precautions against these curious critters will help ensure that food and belongings remain safe.
While the reviews provide positive insights into the cleanliness, location, and pet-friendly nature of Helende Campground, specific details about the number and types of campsites (e.g., tent-only, RV-friendly), the availability of other amenities (such as fire pits, picnic tables, trash disposal), or the extent of river access are not explicitly mentioned. Given its location within the Boise National Forest, it is likely that basic amenities such as fire rings and picnic tables are provided at each campsite. Information regarding trash disposal and specific regulations for the campground would typically be available on-site or through the Boise National Forest website.
Similarly, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Campgrounds in the Boise National Forest often operate on a reservation system, especially during peak seasons, and typically charge camping fees. Information regarding reservations, fees, and any potential discounts for seniors or extended stays can usually be found on the Recreation.gov website or by contacting the Boise National Forest directly. Local users interested in camping at Helende Campground should consult these resources for the most accurate and up-to-date information on availability and pricing.
In conclusion, for local residents and travelers seeking "camping near me" in a clean and well-located campground near Lowman, Idaho, Helende Campground appears to be an excellent choice. Its proximity to the scenic Payette River, the convenience of being a short drive from hot springs, and its dog-friendly policy are significant advantages. While the manual water pump might require some effort, the overall facilities are reported to be well-maintained. Campers should be mindful of the local chipmunk population and take precautions to secure their food and belongings. To obtain more specific information about campsite availability, amenities, fees, and to make reservations, local users are encouraged to contact Helende Campground directly at (208) 259-3361 or visit the Recreation.gov website for the Boise National Forest.

Helende Campground Reviews
Nice, clean campground. Within walking distance of the river and just a short drive away from some hot springs. Pumping the water is a chore but the facilities were well maintained. The chipmunks will rob anything left unattended on a table including donuts in a box and a can of nuts. So, be sure to put away loose items if leaving for more than five minutes. Dog friendly, also!
Jul 28, 2019 · Michael CopenhaverThis area of the river is just awesome love the payette river
Sep 07, 2020 · D Stump (Sawtooth Doug)Small Campground. Only 10 spaces, close together. Only one space will accommodate 30' trailer or 5th wheel, regardless of what the campsite describes. Don't believe the specs. Very close to Hwy 21, very noisy. If you want to fish, either drive another 5 miles to a spot, or be prepared for quite a hike to the river from the campsite. Good things are it's clean and hosts are friendly people.
Aug 30, 2021 · Dave EvanichI can’t say enough about this campground. Lots of space and super clean bathrooms. So so quiet. Nice little walk down to the water. Lots of shade. We had the best time. The camp host was friendly and helpful!
Jul 08, 2020 · Kim StarkeyBeautiful campsite. Pump was very slow getting water to come up, but bathrooms were clean. No host on site, have to go to the Kirkham Hot Springs to find hosts.
