One of the standout features of Hickory Campground is its stunning natural environment. Campers consistently describe it as a "really pretty place to make camp." The presence of a river running alongside the campground is a major draw, offering not only scenic views but also opportunities for recreation. Anglers will be pleased to know that the river is known for good trout fishing, providing a chance to cast a line and enjoy the tranquility of riverside angling. The sound of the flowing water is often audible from the campsites, creating a soothing and immersive natural experience.
Wildlife enthusiasts will also appreciate the abundance of animals in the area. Campers have reported frequent sightings of deer, adding to the natural charm of the campground. However, it's important to be aware of the local raccoon population, which can be quite opportunistic when it comes to food and trash. To ensure a pleasant stay and to protect your belongings, it is crucial to properly secure all food items and dispose of trash in the provided dumpsters. The campground offers convenient access to these trash disposal facilities, along with nearby restrooms for campers' comfort.

A barbecue grill is also included at every site, allowing for delicious outdoor cooking and the quintessential camping culinary experience. Additionally, each campsite is equipped with a fire pit, providing a designated and safe place for campfires, whether for cooking, warmth on cooler evenings, or simply enjoying the mesmerizing flames under the starry Oklahoma sky.
For those who enjoy water-based activities, Hickory Campground offers direct access to the river. Many campsites are located right on the water's edge, allowing for a short walk down to the riverbank. Guests frequently bring their own chairs to relax right in the cool, refreshing water, particularly welcome during the warmer summer months. The river also serves as a gentle thoroughfare for canoes and kayaks, adding to the lively yet peaceful atmosphere. It's common to see fellow campers enjoying fly fishing along various spots of the river, further highlighting its appeal for water enthusiasts.
The nature of the river is such that the water is constantly moving, and in many locations, the sound of the flowing water can be heard from inside your tent, creating a natural soundtrack to your camping experience. When selecting a campsite, you'll find options all along the water, each with its unique characteristics. Some sites offer more tree cover, providing additional shade and a greater sense of privacy, while others might be more open with easier access to the river. Water spigots are conveniently spread throughout the campground, and while they are shared among all campers, choosing a site adjacent to a spigot can provide more immediate access if having water directly at your campsite is a priority.
Based on the consistently positive feedback from returning visitors, Hickory Campground is undoubtedly a "great place to camp." The combination of its pretty environment, the soothing presence of the river, the abundance of wildlife, and the provision of essential amenities like restrooms, trash dumpsters, picnic tables, barbecue grills, and fire pits contribute to a memorable and enjoyable camping experience. Hickory Campground Reviews
Really pretty place to make camp. Restrooms nearby and trash dumpsters. Each site has a picnic table and barbecue grill. Also has firepits at every campsite. River running by camp with good trout fishing. Lots of wildlife so you might be visited by a band of raccoons. They can be messy if you leave them opportunities to get into your trash. Lots of deer also. Loved it.
Nov 27, 2022 · Jacob MastersWe've stayed at Hickory campground many times. We've always camped on the water where we can walk down a short path and put our chairs right into the river. It's always super cold but in the summer it's refreshing. The canoes and kayaks float right past us, and whether looking to the left or right we usually see people fly fishing. Ofcourse the water is always moving, and in alot of places it can be heard from inside the tent. There are spots all along the water to choose from. Some with more trees and more privacy than others. Water spigots are spread about through the campground and everyone shares them. If you want water right at your campsite then just choose a site next to the spigot. Great place to camp for sure!

Apr 25, 2023 · Audrey GerhartOn a half steep above, a remote campground. Don't use this campground, unless you have been to the park before and want to be really close to the water with your boat
