Higby's Campground caters to various accommodation preferences, including traditional campsites and cabin rentals. This allows local campers to choose the option that best suits their needs and comfort level. Whether you prefer sleeping under the stars in your own tent or enjoying the amenities of a cozy cottage, Higby's Campground aims to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Based on customer feedback, the experience at Higby's Campground appears to be varied. One reviewer who stayed in the Oakdale cottage described a "great time," highlighting the cleanliness and suitability of the cottage for a group of four adults. They also appreciated the friendly staff and the allowance of bringing their own firewood. A unique feature mentioned was the presence of ducks that visit the cottage, adding a touch of nature to the stay. This positive review suggests that certain accommodations at Higby's Campground offer a pleasant and well-equipped experience.
However, another review presents a contrasting perspective based on a stay in a cabin. This guest reported significant cleanliness issues with the oven and microwave, a sink in poor condition, and a pervasive ant problem. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the lawn maintenance and the lack of response from the office regarding the ant issue. Furthermore, concerns were raised about the pool supervision, with observations of a lifeguard seemingly neglecting their duties. While this reviewer did commend a different female lifeguard for her attentiveness and professionalism, their overall experience was negative due to the unresolved maintenance and cleanliness problems, as well as the perceived lack of follow-up from the management.
It's important for prospective local users to consider both positive and negative feedback when evaluating Higby's Campground. The management's response to the negative review, as indicated in an edit, suggests a willingness to address concerns and improve the guest experience. They reportedly contacted the reviewer to understand the issues and offered a partial refund, which demonstrates a degree of customer service orientation. This suggests that while there may have been shortcomings in the past, the owners are potentially receptive to feedback and working towards improvements.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Higby's Campground offers the convenience of a nearby location coupled with the option of cabin rentals for those seeking more comfort than traditional tent camping. The presence of a pool, as indicated in the reviews, can be a significant feature for families and individuals looking to cool off during their stay. The mention of friendly staff in one review also suggests that customer service can be a positive aspect of the campground experience.
Potential promotional information for Higby's Campground targeting local users could emphasize the convenience of its location for a quick weekend getaway. Highlighting the variety of accommodation options, from rustic campsites to comfortable cabins, would appeal to a broader range of campers. Families might be interested in features like the pool, if consistently well-supervised. For those considering cabin rentals, it would be beneficial to inquire about recent updates and cleaning protocols to ensure a pleasant stay. Promoting the natural environment and the potential for wildlife encounters, such as the ducks mentioned in the positive review, could also attract nature lovers.
Given the mixed reviews, local users might want to inquire specifically about the type of accommodation they are interested in and any recent improvements or renovations. Asking about the pool schedule and lifeguard presence could also be prudent for those planning to use this amenity. It's recommended to contact Higby's Campground directly at the provided phone numbers to get the most up-to-date information on availability, pricing, and any current promotions for local residents.
In conclusion, Higby's Campground Office presents itself as a local option for "camping near me" in Union City, PA, offering both campsites and cabin rentals. While some guests have reported positive experiences, particularly in specific cabin units, others have raised concerns about cleanliness, maintenance, and pool supervision. The management's apparent willingness to address feedback is a positive sign. Local users are encouraged to weigh these factors and directly contact the campground to determine if it meets their specific needs and expectations for a camping getaway.

Higby's Campground Office Reviews
We stayed at Higbys Campground this last fri and sat in the Oakdale cottage. We had a great time and plan on going back. Cottage was clean and had everything we needed. It was just the right size. There were 4 adults and we had plenty of room. Staff was friendly. They let us take our own firewood in which was nice. If anyone is planning to stay in that cottage make sure you take a cpl extra loafs of bread to feed the ducks because they show up for breakfast lunch and dinner. 🥰 Over all tho it was a perfect cpl days 😁
Sep 20, 2020 · Lisa Umstead** Edited to add, the owners were in contact and were eager to know what was in need of fixing and how they could have improved the stay. They were very nice and understood my concerns. I do understand it has to be difficult to done check every cabin when you have an outside cleaning company but that is something that will unfortunately have to happen. They did offer a partial refund and were honestly very nice to speak with. They never yelled, condescended, or made me feel like my concerns weren't valid. That's something that means a great deal these days. Because of that I'm giving them one more star and would consider renting a different cabin in the future. We stayed in a cabin and not the actual campground but still owned and maintained by higbys. First, the oven and microwave were disgusting. The sink was in rough shape. I took these pictures the day we checked in. There were ants everywhere. I had to ask the office three times to mow our grass because the grass was up to my calves. I also told the office TWICE about ants and no one ever came over or called even though the lady in the office said she would alert the owners right away. I didn't post the picture of the lifeguard because he was young and I didn't want to add his face. While we were at the pool we noticed he didn't check people's pool cards or have them sign in. He didn't even stay in the pool area. He walked into the barn to talk to his friends and (we timed him bc this happened a lot) he spent 27 minutes on his phone without looking up once. I will say that on a different day the female lifeguard was absolutely amazing! She was friendly, paid attention and wasn't afraid to call people for doing things that weren't allowed. She was amazing! When I checked out on July 6th I showed the lady in the office all the pictures and told her all this. She assured me this experience was not normal, not acceptable, and the owners would be in touch with me to try and fix things. No one ever called. No one ever contacted me. Considering no one bothered to call afterwards and at least verify the issues after paying so much, we won't be back.
Aug 02, 2024 · Rebecca ShingledeckerBeen coming here for years. Started out in a tent as a youngster then a trailer. Now taking my kids here and still loving the place. Bath houses could use little more hot water but then again your camping and it's part of the experience. The arcade could also use a few more games and would love to have the juke box back from 18 years ago when I was a teenager. The last three years we went up there they had activities for the kids and picnics for memorial day and labor day weekend. The pool also seemed really well cared for and the kids loved it.
Nov 06, 2018 · Tim pghThe campfire smoke was overwhelming because each camper was packed in like sardines so close to each practically on top of each other & everyone had huge bonfires I smelled like I was in a house fire when I left but besides being so packed in & all the smoke I had nice time the arcade area with pole tables r pretty cool pool is nice free beach is beautiful yeah overall my kids had a blast & really liked the place & that's what really counts !!!!!
Aug 14, 2021 · Heather GeissingerI stayed at the troll cottage at higbys and really enjoyed my stay. Cottage was clean and got cable tv with HBO. The have a really clean and beautiful pool. I love the little game room they have there too. We stayed for a week this year but next year I’ll be staying for two weeks. You really can’t beat the price.
