Himley Lake Campsites Introduce
For local users in Wisconsin and the surrounding areas seeking a truly rustic and secluded "camping near me" experience, Himley Lake Campsites, located off an unnamed road in Pickerel, WI 54465, USA, offers a unique opportunity to get back to nature. This campground caters to those who appreciate a more primitive style of camping, emphasizing quiet solitude and direct access to Himley Lake. If you're looking to disconnect and immerse yourself in a natural lakeside setting, Himley Lake Campsites might be the ideal, albeit basic, retreat you've been searching for.
The environment at Himley Lake Campsites is characterized by its tranquility and natural beauty. One reviewer described it as a "great place if you like roughing it" and highlighted its quiet nature, emphasizing the seclusion of the two available campsites, which are reportedly not even visible to each other. This suggests a high degree of privacy and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for those seeking solitude in nature. Situated just "50 ft. off the lake," the campsites offer very easy access to Himley Lake, making it a prime location for water-based activities. Another visitor who explored the site in the summer of 2015 noted the beauty of the campsite and the lake, specifically mentioning that the lake is "excellent for paddle sports." This lakeside setting provides opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, and enjoying the natural shoreline. However, one visitor also noted the "incredible clarity" of the water, which, while seemingly positive, allowed them to see debris on the lake bed covered by a "uniform grey layer of silt," giving the lake an "eerie quality." This observation suggests that while the lake is visually clear, its bottom composition might not be aesthetically pleasing to all. Despite this, the overall environment appears to be one of natural beauty and quiet seclusion, primarily appealing to those comfortable with a more primitive camping experience.
The services at Himley Lake Campsites are intentionally minimal, catering to a "roughing it" style of camping. Notably, the campground does not offer water or electric hookups at the campsites. This is a crucial point for potential visitors to understand, as they will need to be self-sufficient in terms of water supply and power. For sanitation, the campground provides a basic facility: "a toilet seat mounted to a box over a hole." This rudimentary toilet arrangement underscores the primitive nature of the campsite and requires campers to be prepared for basic amenities. Despite the lack of modern conveniences, the large size of the campsites is a significant service, with one reviewer stating that they "could easily have two good size campers with plenty of space to still move around." This spaciousness allows for comfortable setup and movement, even for larger groups or those with multiple vehicles. The proximity to the lake and the presence of a boat launch "down the next trail right by the two sights" are also valuable services for those interested in boating and paddle sports, providing convenient access to Himley Lake.
The primary features of Himley Lake Campsites revolve around its natural setting and the opportunities for a secluded and rustic experience. The direct lake access, with the easy kayak launch and the nearby boat launch, is a major draw for water enthusiasts. The very large size of the two campsites is a significant feature, offering ample space and privacy. The quiet and secluded nature of the sites, being "not even visible to each other," provides a unique sense of solitude that is often sought after by those looking to escape crowded campgrounds. The primitive toilet facility is a key feature that defines the basic nature of the campsite. The absence of water and electric hookups further emphasizes the "roughing it" aspect, appealing to campers who are comfortable with self-sufficiency and off-grid living. The potential for wildlife viewing and enjoying the natural sounds of the lake and surrounding environment are also inherent features of this type of remote campsite. While one reviewer reported having "no luck fishing," the lake itself remains a central feature for other recreational activities like paddling.
The customer reviews offer a balanced perspective on Himley Lake Campsites. The first reviewer's enthusiastic endorsement for those who enjoy "roughing it" highlights the appeal for a specific type of camper seeking quiet and seclusion with lake access. The mention of the large site size and the convenience for launching a kayak are significant positives. The second review, while also acknowledging the beauty of the campsite and the lake's suitability for paddle sports, raises a point about the lake's clarity revealing silt on the bed, which gave it an "eerie quality," and the lack of fishing success. This suggests that while the lake is visually clear, its bottom composition might detract from the aesthetic experience for some, and fishing may not be a primary draw. However, the overall sentiment, even in the second review, acknowledges the beauty of the location and its appeal for certain activities like paddling. The strong emphasis on quietness and privacy in both reviews is a consistent positive aspect of Himley Lake Campsites.
For local users in the Pickerel, Wisconsin, area or those willing to venture slightly off the beaten path for a more primitive experience, Himley Lake Campsites offers a unique "camping near me" option. It caters specifically to individuals, couples, or small groups who prioritize solitude, quiet, and direct access to a lake for activities like kayaking and canoeing, and who are comfortable with basic camping amenities. The large campsite sizes could potentially accommodate multiple tents or even a couple of campers, making it suitable for small group getaways where privacy is desired. However, potential visitors must be prepared for the lack of water and electric hookups and the very basic toilet facility. This is truly a campsite for those who enjoy a more self-sufficient and rustic form of camping.

Local users interested in booking a site or inquiring about any specific regulations or recommendations should contact the relevant local authority or land management agency, as a direct phone number or website for the campsite itself is not provided. Himley Lake Campsites Reviews
Great place if you like roughing it. Very quiet and only two sights which are not even visible to each other. No water or electric but there is a toilet seat mounted to a box over a hole for your business. Very large sites could easily have two good size campers with plenty of space to still move around. 50 ft. off the lake makes it easy to launch a kayak. Plus there is a boat launch down the next trail right by the two sights.
Sep 10, 2021 · Gene BeaumiaI visited this site summer 2015, the campsite and lake are beautiful and the lake is excellent for paddle sports. I was put off by it's incredible clarity though, the water was so clear and calm that you could see all the debris on the lake bed, but it was covered with a uniform grey layer of silt that gives the lake a very eerie quality. I had no luck fishing either.
Nov 16, 2016 · David JanzenThe campsites are nicely sized with easy access to the water. The sites are far enough from each other for privacy. Water was clear. Not very deep but excellent for floating and fishing.
Jul 25, 2019 · Nina LoweryLaunched our yaks and spent the afternoon soothing our souls. Very clear lake, clean. The campsites were well maintained and also clean.
Nov 04, 2020 · DiAnna DavieNo toilet. No water. Road going in sketchy. Random strangers in your camp at 2am. Had to scare them off with the 9mm. Lots of drug paraphernalia around.
