Hoback Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking a charming and straightforward "camping near me" experience, Hoback Campground, nestled within the picturesque Bridger Teton National Forest near Jackson, Wyoming, offers a delightful escape. Based on positive feedback from fellow campers, this little campground provides essential amenities, beautiful surroundings, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it an excellent choice for those who appreciate the simpler aspects of outdoor living. If you're looking for a convenient spot with river access, clean facilities, and a friendly host, Hoback Campground could be your next favorite local camping destination.
One of the standout features of Hoback Campground is its proximity to an "awesome waterway," as described by a satisfied visitor. This easily accessible river provides opportunities for various water-related activities, whether it's enjoying the scenic views, using a water filter like a Grayl to obtain fresh water, or simply enjoying the soothing sounds of the flowing water. The allure of camping so close to a river is significant, offering a chance to connect with nature in a refreshing and invigorating way. For locals searching for "camping near me" with convenient river access for recreation and enjoying the natural environment, Hoback Campground presents an attractive option.
Hoback Campground offers a range of practical amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. For those who enjoy campfires, wood bundles are available for sale directly at the campground, eliminating the need to forage for firewood upon arrival. Campers can also appreciate the presence of water spouts located throughout the campground, providing easy access to fresh water for drinking and other needs. The availability of "very clean vault toilets" is another significant plus, as clean and well-maintained restroom facilities greatly enhance the overall camping experience. Additionally, each campsite is equipped with clean bear boxes for secure food storage, fire rings for campfires, and picnic tables for convenient outdoor dining and gathering.
The presence of a "very friendly and tentative host" is consistently highlighted in the reviews, suggesting a welcoming and well-managed environment. A helpful and attentive host can make a significant difference in the quality of a camping experience, providing assistance, ensuring rules are followed, and fostering a positive atmosphere for all campers. This personal touch adds to the appeal of Hoback Campground, making it feel like a cared-for and welcoming place for local visitors.
The natural environment of Hoback Campground is described as "gorgeous" and characterized by the presence of conifers, which provide shade and a sense of being immersed in the forest. While one visitor noted the presence of "some skeeters near the conifers" and recommended bringing bug spray, this is a common consideration in many outdoor environments, especially near water sources and wooded areas. The fact that even smaller campsites could accommodate two tents under the conifers indicates that the sites offer reasonable space and the natural setting is conducive to a comfortable tent camping experience. For locals seeking a "camping near me" option with a beautiful, shaded environment, Hoback Campground offers an appealing natural setting.
Hoback Campground is particularly recommended for "plot camping," suggesting that the individual campsites are well-defined and suitable for setting up tents and enjoying a traditional camping experience. The ability to fit two tents on even the smaller sites indicates flexibility for families or small groups camping together. The simplicity of the campground, as noted by one visitor ("Gorgeous! Simple!"), is part of its charm, focusing on the essential elements of a great outdoor experience without unnecessary frills.
While one visitor reported "no cell service" for their provider, this is not uncommon in more remote campground locations within national forests. It's important to be aware of potential limitations in connectivity and to plan accordingly if relying on mobile communication. For some, the lack of cell service can be a welcome opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings, while for others, it's a factor to consider for safety and communication purposes. This information is provided as a helpful "fyi" for potential visitors to manage their expectations regarding connectivity.
The easy accessibility of the river is another significant advantage of Hoback Campground. Whether you're looking to cool off on a hot day (perhaps with caution, as one visitor's dog discovered it was "fast and deep"), filter water, or simply enjoy the riverside scenery, having the waterway just a "stone's throw away" adds to the campground's appeal. The experience of seeing a bull moose further highlights the potential for wildlife encounters in the area, adding an element of excitement and natural wonder to your camping trip. For local nature lovers, Hoback Campground offers a prime location for wildlife viewing and enjoying the river environment.
One visitor mentioned using the campground as a "great place while tracking and just need an overnight spot," suggesting its suitability for those engaged in outdoor activities in the surrounding area who require a convenient and comfortable place to stay. This highlights the campground's functionality as a basecamp for exploring the Bridger Teton National Forest and its various attractions.
In summary, Hoback Campground offers a wonderful "camping near me" experience characterized by its simple beauty, convenient river access, clean and well-maintained facilities (including vault toilets and bear boxes), and a friendly, attentive host. The availability of wood bundles for sale adds to the convenience. While cell service may be limited for some providers, the overall atmosphere of the campground, with its shaded campsites under conifers and the nearby river, makes it a highly recommended spot for tent camping and those seeking a straightforward and enjoyable outdoor getaway in the Jackson, Wyoming area.

Hoback Campground Reviews
Great little campground. Wood bundles for sale, no cell service for me (no problem with it, just fyi), water spouts, very clean vault toilets, and a stones throw away from an awesome waterway where I took my grayl. Clean bear boxes, fire rings, picnis table on the sites.Very friendly and tentative host. Had some skeeters near the conifers so if thats a concern bring bug spray. We picked one of the smaller sites and still fit 2 tents under the conifers.Highly recommend for plot camping.

Very beautiful views. Highly recommend!
Jul 13, 2021 · RyanWe didn't stay here, but drove by. Seems like a nice campground, especially for RVs. From here it's not too far a drive to the Granite Falls hot springs.
