Based on glowing reviews from fellow campers, Curtis Canyon Campground stands out as a truly loved destination for those wanting to "get away" from the hustle and bustle. A significant highlight is its suitability for those seeking a more rustic and private camping experience, as indicated by the description of "shaded private" spaces. This feature suggests that each campsite is well-separated, offering a sense of solitude and immersion in the natural surroundings. If you value privacy and tranquility in your "camping near me" experience, Curtis Canyon Campground appears to be an excellent choice.
It's important to note that Curtis Canyon Campground may not be the best option for those requiring full hookups for their RVs or campers. The amenities mentioned in the reviews include a "pit toilet and potable water." This suggests a more primitive camping setup, ideal for tent campers or RVers who are self-sufficient in terms of power and waste management. If your search for "camping near me" prioritizes full electrical, water, and sewer connections, you might need to explore other campgrounds in the vicinity. However, for those comfortable with basic amenities, the allure of Curtis Canyon's environment and views could be well worth it.
A crucial piece of updated information addresses a previous concern about road access. According to a recent review, "the road has been totally fixed, and anyone could make it up." This is excellent news for potential visitors who might have been deterred by earlier reports of difficult road conditions. You can now likely access the campground with greater ease, ensuring a smoother start to your "camping near me" adventure.
One of the most compelling features of Curtis Canyon Campground is the "expansive views of the whole valley and amazing sunsets." Imagine setting up your camp and being treated to breathtaking panoramic vistas and the spectacle of the sun setting over the Wyoming landscape. This alone makes Curtis Canyon a highly desirable location for those seeking scenic beauty as part of their "camping near me" experience. The opportunity to witness such natural wonders can significantly enhance your outdoor getaway.
Adding an element of unique interest, reviewers have also mentioned watching people "paragliding off the top" near the campground. This suggests that the area around Curtis Canyon might be a popular spot for adventure activities, potentially offering entertainment and a sense of excitement beyond traditional camping. While not a direct amenity of the campground itself, the proximity to such activities could appeal to thrill-seekers and those looking for more than just a quiet camping experience.
Furthermore, Curtis Canyon Campground is described as "great for dispersed camping." Dispersed camping refers to camping outside of developed campgrounds, typically in more remote areas of national forests. This indicates that the area surrounding Curtis Canyon offers even more opportunities for those seeking a truly off-the-beaten-path "camping near me" experience. If you are comfortable with self-sufficiency and desire a more secluded and primitive camping adventure, the dispersed camping options near Curtis Canyon could be ideal.
In summary, Curtis Canyon Campground offers a compelling blend of natural beauty, privacy, and a more rustic camping experience within the Bridger-Teton National Forest near Jackson, WY. Its key features include:

Curtis Canyon Campground Reviews
I absolutely loved this campground. This is a great place if you like to get away. It may not be best if you want a full hookup. The spaces are shaded private. There is a pit toilet and potable water. Update from all the previous reviews, the road has been totally fixed, and anyone could make it up. You get expansive views of the whole valley and amazing sunsets. We also watched people paragliding off the top. Great for dispersed camping.
Aug 01, 2024 · Andrea SparksAmazing campground with dispersed camping. One of my favorite spots of all time.
May 02, 2025 · Maggie ParrottReally liked this little campground - recommend for if you're flying out of JH airport next day as the town is practically right down the road. The toilet was the cleanest campground toilet I've ever used. Host also sells firewood. Each plot comes with plenty of space, bear box and fire ring.Horseflies. Bring bug spray, they'll let you alone.Recommed you go watch the sunset off the canyon hillside. It's gorgeous, pictures don't do it justice.Gets quite chilly so account for the temp change and bring a woobie/warmies.
Sep 05, 2024 · HThe place itself is great. The camp host is very nice and helpful. The road past "County maintenance ends" is horrible. Roads in war torn and bombarded cities are better. The road going up towards the campground is as bad or worse. It can be downright dangerous! I made it up with a dually 4x4 pulling a 32 foot 5th wheel in low range, but I wouldn't recommend any trailer over 22' or 4000lbs. It was a terrible mistake relying on Google reviews.Huge, huge craters about 3'x3' x 16" to 24" deep right at the campground entrance. Some branches need trimming as they can scratch your rig. Only good, calm drivers should try this.20$ a night. Free dispersed camping up the hill on a still terrible road, we didn't dare go further.
Aug 12, 2023 · Karl DamalGreat campsite not far from Grand Tetons & right near the National Elk Refuge. We have an 06 Chevy Cobalt & made it up the slightly sketchy road but be prepared to go slow & potentially bottom out a few times lol. Access Pass accepted so was $7.50 a night, had toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, grill, & bear storage box.
