Gros Ventre Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience within the majestic Grand Teton National Park? Gros Ventre Campground, situated at 100 Gros Ventre Campground Rd, Kelly, WY 83011, USA, offers a unique camping environment with a mix of spacious and more closely situated sites. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (307) 543-2811 or +1 307-543-2811. This campground presents a quieter alternative within the bustling Jackson Hole area, providing a basecamp for exploring the stunning natural beauty of the Tetons.
The environment at Gros Ventre Campground is described by some visitors as different from typical campgrounds. The campground layout includes corridors and loops, with site 213 being mentioned as located on a corridor with a decent view and ample space and privacy. However, it's noted that other sites within the loops might offer less privacy. The Gros Ventre River, which lends its name to the campground, reportedly has minimal flowing water. The area is generally peaceful and quiet, which some campers appreciate for a relaxing experience, while others might find it a bit too tranquil. The night sky at Gros Ventre Campground is highlighted as being very clear, making it an excellent spot for stargazing.
Gros Ventre Campground caters to both tent and RV campers, although reviews suggest that a significant portion of visitors are RVers. While one review mentioned a spacious and private tent site, another described some campsites as small and close together with limited tree coverage. This suggests variability in site size and privacy depending on the specific location within the campground. The availability of hookups is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, so it's advisable to inquire about this when making reservations if it's a requirement for your RV.
The washroom facilities at Gros Ventre Campground are described as pretty outdated, and one reviewer noted that they didn't seem to be used by many people. This could imply that while facilities are present, they might not be the most modern or frequently utilized. It's important to be prepared for potentially older facilities if you plan to use the campground restrooms.
A notable feature of Gros Ventre Campground is its proximity to Dornan's, a nearby establishment offering food and various activities. This convenience can be a significant advantage for campers looking for dining options or recreational opportunities without having to travel far from the campground. Additionally, the campground reportedly offers evening programs that some visitors found quite interesting, suggesting a community atmosphere and opportunities for engagement.
However, some reviews highlight potential drawbacks. One camper found the campsites to be very small and close together with minimal tree coverage, leading to a less private experience. Another mentioned a challenging experience with the RV driveway being small and strangely shaped, as well as a super long line for the dump station with a narrow road making it difficult to maneuver around other rigs. These points are important considerations for RV travelers planning to stay at Gros Ventre Campground.
While the location of Gros Ventre Campground is undeniably close to the stunning Grand Teton National Park, making it a convenient place to wake up and access the park's attractions, one reviewer felt there was "absolutely no reason to relax here," citing the campsite conditions. This suggests that while it serves as a functional base for exploring the Tetons, the campground itself might not be the primary focus for a leisurely, relaxing camping experience for all visitors.
Promotional information is not explicitly available in the provided reviews. However, the campground's key selling points appear to be its location within Grand Teton National Park, proximity to Dornan's, the potential for spacious and private sites in certain areas (like site 213), and the presence of evening campground programs. For local users seeking a basecamp for exploring the Tetons that offers a quieter atmosphere and convenient access to some amenities, Gros Ventre Campground might be a suitable option. However, it's crucial to be aware of the potential for outdated facilities, closely spaced sites in some areas, and the reported issues with RV maneuvering and the dump station.
When considering "camping near me" at Gros Ventre Campground, it's recommended to inquire about specific campsite details, including size, privacy, and hookup availability, when making reservations. Given the mixed reviews regarding site conditions and facilities, it's essential to have realistic expectations. If a peaceful environment and proximity to Grand Teton National Park and Dornan's are your priorities, and you are prepared for potentially older facilities and variable site conditions, Gros Ventre Campground could serve your needs. However, if you prioritize modern amenities, spacious and private sites throughout the campground, and easy RV maneuvering, you might want to explore other options within the "camping near me" category in the Jackson Hole area, such as Colter Bay Campground, which one reviewer mentioned as being livelier.

Gros Ventre Campground Reviews
This campground was different from any other we've camped at. We had site 213, which was on the corridor and had a decent view. Our site was spacious and private, but I can understand that other sites within the loops aren't as private. The entire area is very expensive, especially Jackson WY. The Gros Ventre river hardly has any flowing water. Most people here are RVers. It is peaceful and quiet, a little too peaceful for my liking. The washrooms are pretty outdated, and very few people seem to use them.We had one of the most peaceful tent camping experience here. The night sky is very clear. It is really close to Dornan's for food and activities. Also, they have campground programs every evening that seemed quite interesting! Next time, if there is one, I'm staying in Colter Bay, which is way livelier.
Nov 16, 2024 · Tanya ChowdhuryI don’t think I’d come back here. The camp sites are very small and close together with no tree coverage mostly. I felt the driveway for the RV our group brought was very small and strangely shaped. Super long line for the dump station, with the road being too narrow to pull rigs around other rigs to get at the dump station further up. The location is so close to Grand Tetons that it is a good place to wake up and leave but absolutely no reason to relax here.
Sep 25, 2024 · Jeremy RoseThe location is peaceful, not a lot of traffic in this area of the park. I had a rafting trip scheduled west of Jackson, so this campground was the closest to the departure point and convenient to the town of Jackson. The campground is extremely overpriced due to the lack of amenities. There are not enough bathrooms to accommodate all of the surrounding campsites. I was on the back loop and the trail to the bathroom went through the center of a campsite. I felt guilty every time I went, but the occupant didn't seem too upset. There are no showers either, so $63 per night was overkill in my opinion. Hopefully this campground will use the extra revenue from the price increase to upgrade and install additional restrooms. I had really hoped to see wildlife, but didn't. Maybe it was the time of year (first week of August). All of the staff was very friendly and helpful.
Aug 27, 2024 · Edie Ann FitzgeraldOur campsite was in loop A site 64. We had no shade, but a pretty nice view of the mountains. The other loops had more trees and we’re shadier which might make them better choices depending on the time of year. The bathrooms were serviceable and clean. Check-in was really easy and you can stay in your car. The only downside to this campground is the there’s no hiking or walking trails. They have evening programming, too. Overall a good experience of this campground!
Aug 17, 2024 · LS SheldonDecent campground with availability near Grand Tetons. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. Our spot was fine, flat and with enough room and some shade. There aren't really any facilities in the campground, just a good spot to stay.Be aware if you need to dump your RV on the way out, there may be a line (with only one dump and many sites).
