Hogan Reservoir Introduce
For local outdoor enthusiasts in the Cody, Wyoming area searching for "camping near me," Hogan Reservoir presents a rustic and picturesque camping destination. Situated in close proximity to Cody, this location offers a convenient escape into nature centered around the scenic Hogan Reservoir. While specific details about the campground's management and official website presence may require further online investigation, information gleaned from recent camper reviews provides valuable insights into the environment, services, and features you can expect at Hogan Reservoir.
The environment surrounding Hogan Reservoir is clearly a major draw for visitors. Reviewers consistently mention the natural beauty of the area, with one camper describing it as a "great spot." The presence of Luce Creek suggests opportunities for fishing, as highlighted by the successful trout catch mentioned in one review. The high water levels reported during one visit indicate the potential for water-based activities and contribute to the overall scenic appeal of the reservoir. The weather, at least during one reviewer's stay, was pleasant, with temperatures reaching into the mid-70s, ideal for outdoor activities. The presence of a dock further suggests access for fishing or perhaps small watercraft, although its operational status might vary depending on water levels.
In terms of services, the reviews offer some crucial information. Notably, Hogan Reservoir appears to be a more primitive camping experience, as one reviewer explicitly states "no hookups" for big rigs. This implies that RV campers should be prepared for dry camping with no direct connections for water, electricity, or sewer. This characteristic might appeal to those seeking a more traditional and off-grid camping experience. The mention of "tight(ish) turns to get in" for larger vehicles is an important consideration for RV owners planning a visit, suggesting that navigating the access roads might require careful maneuvering.
The campground features established campsites, with at least eight mentioned as being full on a Saturday night. This indicates the potential for the area to become busy, particularly on weekends, which is a common trend for easily accessible natural recreation areas near local communities. However, one reviewer noted the presence of a "very friendly local crowd," suggesting a welcoming atmosphere among fellow campers.
One of the key features of Hogan Reservoir is the opportunity for fishing in Luce Creek and presumably the reservoir itself. The successful trout catch reported by one camper highlights the potential for anglers to enjoy their hobby. The presence of a dock further supports fishing activities and may enhance access to the water. The natural setting around the reservoir likely offers opportunities for other outdoor activities such as hiking and wildlife observation, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.
A significant point of concern raised in one of the reviews is the condition of the vault toilet, described as being in poor condition and seemingly uncleaned for an extended period. This is a crucial piece of information for prospective campers to be aware of and highlights a potential area for improvement in the campground's maintenance. Campers should be prepared for potentially less-than-ideal restroom facilities.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the fact that local residents frequent the area, as indicated by the "friendly local crowd" comment, suggests that Hogan Reservoir is a known and appreciated camping spot within the community. Those interested in camping at Hogan Reservoir should likely check local online forums, social media groups, or potentially contact the local county or forestry service for any information regarding fees, reservations (if applicable), and current conditions. Given the lack of hookups, it's possible that fees, if any, might be lower compared to campgrounds offering full amenities.
Based on the available information, Hogan Reservoir offers a natural and relatively rustic camping experience near Cody, Wyoming, making it a viable option for those searching for "camping near me." The beautiful surroundings, potential for fishing, and friendly local atmosphere are positive aspects. However, potential visitors should be aware of the lack of hookups, the possibility of tight turns for large RVs, the potential for crowds on weekends, and the reported poor condition of the vault toilet. Despite these considerations, the positive reviews regarding the overall enjoyment and the intention of repeat visits suggest that Hogan Reservoir holds appeal for local campers seeking a natural getaway.

Hogan Reservoir Reviews
Great spot! We loved our 4 night stay. Heads up for the big rigs, no hookups and tight(ish) turns to get in. The sites and roadways are well maintained and we caught a nice trout out of Luce. Got a bit busy on a Saturday night, (8 established sites were full and had a few parked in the slots by the entrance) but very friendly local crowd for the most part. We will be back!
May 05, 2024 · Savannah VAbsolutely enjoyed my 48 hour camping trip up here. It was pretty nice during the visit. Beautiful 75° plus weather. Water levels were high. The dock is out. The vault toilet was about the worst part, looks like that hasn't been cleaned since it opened for the season... Overall; it was a relaxing and would definitely stay here again.
Jun 14, 2024 · Tony MitchHogan is a hidden gem! The views are amazing and it's pretty quiet. We swam, hiked, and paddle boarded. The camp sites were recently upgraded with new tables, fire rings, graveled parking spaces, and more. The only downside is the wind. It is usually nice but when the wind kicks up at night, it was literally like a hurricane and we thought the camper was going to blow over. It may be best to only visit during the day!
Feb 14, 2020 · Nathan GesnerNice out of the way place to camp near Cody, WY. There is a pit toilet but no other services. Camp sites are right on the lake. There is good bird watching here.
Jul 21, 2017 · Tomas DawsonGorgeous spot with proper camping spots and bear boxes. Wanted to stay for more than one night but very drunk local men would not stop harassing me and I did not feel safe.
