Horsfall Campground Introduce
Nestled in the heart of North Bend, Oregon, Horsfall Campground serves as a convenient and popular basecamp for adventurers eager to explore the vast and dynamic Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. For local users searching for "camping near me" with direct access to exhilarating off-road experiences and the unique coastal environment, Horsfall Campground presents a straightforward option. While offering a no-frills camping experience, its prime location adjacent to the dunes remains its most significant draw.
Environment and Location: Horsfall Campground boasts an enviable location right on the doorstep of the Oregon Dunes. This proximity provides unparalleled ease of access for off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, hikers, and nature lovers alike. Imagine the thrill of riding your ATV or dune buggy directly from your campsite onto miles of rolling sand dunes. The campground itself is situated in a coastal environment, likely with sandy soil and potentially some vegetation providing limited shade. The sound of the nearby Pacific Ocean may also contribute to the camping ambiance. However, based on user reviews, the campground itself is described as small and the campsites as narrow, which is something to consider when planning your setup.
Services and Amenities: Horsfall Campground offers basic amenities to support your camping needs. It accommodates both tent campers and trailers, making it a versatile choice for different camping styles. However, it's important to note that the campground does not offer hookups for RVs, meaning you'll need to be self-sufficient in terms of water, electricity, and waste disposal. Restroom facilities are available, but reviews indicate they are older and somewhat basic. Showers are also available, but they operate on a coin-based system, requiring $1 for 5 minutes of use. Additionally, past visitor feedback suggests the shower facilities may be less suitable for taller individuals. It's worth noting the absence of mirrors in the restrooms, with metal plates serving as a substitute.
Features and Activities: The primary feature of Horsfall Campground is undoubtedly its direct access to the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. This vast expanse of wind-sculpted sand offers endless opportunities for OHV riding, hiking, sandboarding, photography, and simply enjoying the unique coastal landscape. The dunes stretch for miles, providing a diverse playground for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. The campground's pet-friendly policy is another notable feature, allowing you to bring your furry companions along on your adventures. The family-friendly atmosphere, as highlighted in a positive review, suggests a welcoming environment for campers of all ages.
Important Considerations and Potential Drawbacks: While the allure of dune access is strong, it's crucial to be aware of some potential drawbacks mentioned in user reviews. Several reviews highlight concerns about theft of camping gear, generators, and ATVs. Therefore, it is strongly advised to take proactive measures to secure your belongings, such as locking up equipment and being vigilant about your surroundings. Getting to know your neighbors and looking out for each other is also a recommended safety practice. Furthermore, recent feedback indicates a potential decline in the quality of restroom cleanliness and a less helpful campground host compared to previous years. While these are subjective experiences, they are worth considering when making your decision.
The narrowness of the campsites and potentially difficult parking are other points raised by visitors. If you have a larger trailer or multiple vehicles, it's advisable to inquire about site dimensions and parking arrangements when making your reservation. The coin-operated and potentially short showers, along with the older restroom facilities, might be a consideration for those who prioritize modern amenities.
Promotional Information and Local Appeal: For local residents seeking a quick escape into a unique natural environment, Horsfall Campground offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the Oregon Dunes. The ease of access for OHV users in the "camping near me" category is a significant selling point. Imagine spending a day riding the dunes and returning to your campsite within minutes. For families and pet owners looking for an adventurous weekend getaway, the campground's welcoming atmosphere and pet-friendly policy add to its appeal. While the amenities are basic, the focus here is clearly on the outdoor experience and the thrill of the dunes. For those prioritizing convenience and direct access to this remarkable natural wonder, Horsfall Campground remains a viable option within the local camping landscape.
Staying Informed: Given the recent feedback regarding changes in campground management and service quality, it is always a good idea to check the most recent reviews and potentially contact the campground directly at (541) 271-6000 or +1 541-271-6000 for the latest information on conditions, policies, and availability. This will help you make an informed decision and ensure a smoother camping experience. While past positive experiences highlight the potential of Horsfall Campground, staying updated on current conditions is essential for all local campers considering a visit.

Horsfall Campground Reviews
My brother and I camped with our boys for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. Very easy ride in and out access to the dunes. Campground and restrooms were kept very clean. 1 little thing I would say could be better is hours for showers. 8-2:30 doesn't work well for riding in the sand. Flip those hrs to 2:30-8 and people could clean up after riding all day in the sand. We are planning another trip back next year.
Aug 30, 2024 · Dennis Anderson*****update review ****** We Used to love coming to this camp site. We came to this campsite recently 2 weeks ago and found out the camphost Carter was no longer a host. 1st we try to make do. Come to realize the restrooms weren't being clean and the new campost wasn't very friendly or nice. New camp host was rude! The old camp host used to back us up into our camping space the new one is not very helpful at all. We miss the old camp host!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭)Carter and Donna We miss you! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭************************The campgrounds is small.the restrooms have showers you pay one dollar for 5 minutes. Coin showers. The showers are for short people. The restrooms are very old. No mirrors really in restrooms just a Metal plate. Campsites very narrow parking can be hard. Didn't care for the campsite as much but the Dunes was amazing and fun. The Dunes are very long and gos on for miles. We enjoyed our time here. The campground host was wonderful and very helpful. Very wonderful family running the campgrounds. Kid friendly and pet friendly. Tent camp and trailers. No hookups. Great place to visit. Please lock up your camping gear, generators and atvs. Alot of theft at this camp ground. It's a good idea to get to know who you are camping next to and keep a look out for each other.
Sep 20, 2022 · JessSure enough, there’s lots of room to roam. And all kinds of terrain. From sand hill climbs to flat out areas. I doubt if you could cover all the dunes in a week. Whatever your desire or skill level. Lots of ATVs and UTVs. I didn’t see any motorcycles, but it doesn’t mean that they weren’t there. There at least four dry campgrounds in a few days you’re so rude to choose from.
Aug 21, 2023 · Steven RankThe campground was kept tidy and the bathrooms although old and in need of updating were kept clean. The host was a nice gentleman with kids who just asked us to be kind and neighborly. He warned us about theft and we made sure to lock everything up ( generators, quads & cars). The dunes were so extremely choppy we had a rough time on them. We had to be extremely mindful of staying to the side of dunes (we have youth riders), sending a spotter and mindful of what size trail we were on. Our last day a member of our group was in a head on with a side-by-side on a trail. Lucked out with bumps and bruises, and a busted A-Arm on his quad. Overall for these dunes, we will be leaving them to the side-by-sides and not coming back.
Aug 20, 2022 · Shana RyanNice place to take long exploring walks. Ideal if you have off road vehicles! The camp host is very nice. Love waking to the sound of the engines of the quads starting up in the early mornings.
