Hughesville Camp Introduce
For those in the Hughesville, Pennsylvania area searching for "camping near me," Hughesville Camp, located at 199 Race St, Hughesville, PA 17737, USA, presents a complex picture based on the available reviews. There is no phone number provided in the information. One detailed review raises significant concerns about the management, safety, and condition of the property, while another offers a historical perspective on its evolution. Potential local users should consider these contrasting viewpoints when evaluating Hughesville Camp for their camping or accommodation needs.
Environment: Transition from Recreational Camp
One reviewer describes Hughesville Camp as having been a place where "God and his people gathered for recreation and revival camp meetings" in the past. This suggests that the environment may have once been oriented towards communal and possibly religiously affiliated outdoor activities. However, the same review notes that it has "turned into a lot rental for weekend and permanent living." This indicates a shift in the primary use and atmosphere of the location. The other, more critical review does not focus on the natural environment but rather on the condition of the buildings. For local users seeking "camping near me," it's important to note this apparent transition, which might influence the overall ambiance and the types of facilities and activities available compared to a traditional campground.
Services and Amenities: Conflicting Accounts
The two reviews offer starkly different perspectives on the services and the overall experience at Hughesville Camp:
- Negative Review: This account alleges theft of personal property (cameras), threats and an attack on the reviewer's son, and claims that the buildings are in disrepair and dangerous. It also mentions an incident where the power was allegedly intentionally cut off by the management after the power company refused to do so. Additionally, the reviewer recounts being told to leave the property during a visit to their son.
- Historical Perspective: This review notes the transformation into a "lot rental for weekend and permanent living," suggesting that the services might now be more geared towards longer-term residents rather than short-term campers.
Given these conflicting accounts, it is challenging to provide an objective list of services and amenities. Potential local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of the serious allegations raised in one review regarding safety, management conduct, and property conditions. The shift towards lot rentals might mean that traditional campground amenities are limited or less emphasized. It would be prudent to seek current and direct information from the camp management or recent visitors to get an accurate understanding of the services available.
Features: From Revival Camp to Lot Rentals with Safety Concerns
Based on the provided information, the features of Hughesville Camp appear to have evolved:
- Historical Significance: It once served as a gathering place for "recreation and revival camp meetings," indicating a history rooted in community and possibly religious activities.
- Transition to Lot Rentals: It has now become primarily a "lot rental for weekend and permanent living," suggesting a focus on longer-term accommodation rather than transient camping.
- Alleged Safety and Management Issues: One review raises serious concerns about theft, safety, the condition of buildings, and the behavior of the management.
For local users looking for "camping near me," these features present a mixed picture. The historical aspect might be of interest to some, and the availability of lot rentals could suit those seeking a more permanent or semi-permanent living situation. However, the grave allegations in one of the reviews regarding safety and management cannot be ignored and should be a significant consideration for anyone thinking of staying at Hughesville Camp.
Promotional Information: Absence of Positive Promotion
There is no positive promotional information available in the provided text. One review is strongly negative and serves as a warning, while the other describes a historical transition without explicitly promoting the current state of the camp. For local users searching for "camping near me," the lack of positive endorsements and the presence of serious allegations should be carefully considered.
Considering Hughesville Camp: Proceed with Caution
For local residents of Hughesville, PA, searching for "camping near me," Hughesville Camp at 199 Race St presents a complex scenario. While it has a history as a recreational and revival camp and has transitioned into offering lot rentals, one detailed review raises significant red flags regarding safety, management, and the condition of the property. This contrasts with the brief historical overview provided in the other review. Anyone considering Hughesville Camp for camping or longer-term living should be aware of these serious allegations. It would be highly advisable to seek further, more current information and perhaps even visit the site to assess the conditions and management firsthand before making any decisions. The strong negative feedback warrants caution for local users exploring their "camping near me" options.

Hughesville Camp Reviews
Ok first off it's run buy theafs and idiots. A friend of mine had cameras up to protect his property they stole them when he was gone to work. How do I know? They were seen by others that lived there. My son was there for a time and they threatened him and then attack him. The buildings are in disrepair and are very dangerous . I was there visiting my son and the manager came down and told me I had to leave because I didn't belong there. Then they called the power company to have them shut the power off when they refused because of the time of year, they cut the power lines themselves..A nice place?? No no no. I wouldn't allow my grandkids there because of the danger of the buildings. But don't judge it buy me, go see for yourselfs..
Nov 24, 2024 · Carl HeasleyA shadow of days gone by when God and his people gathered for recreation and revival camp meetings. Turned into a lot rental for weekend and permanent living.
Sep 14, 2022 · Derry JohnsonVery quiet and peaceful. Small campground with no frills. Partially shaded along a nice creek. Lots are too tight tho. We are lucky to have an empty space beside us for now, because we couldn't even open the awnings when there was a neighbor.
May 10, 2018 · Melissa HaleReasonable price. Fairly quiet. Just a seasonal camp ground now.
Sep 22, 2023 · Adam Luzierthe place is small, but really fun to hangout with friends and family!!
