Indian ford campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" and considering a trip to the Sisters, Oregon area? Indian Ford Campground, located on Indian Ford Rd, Sisters, OR 97759, offers a National Forest Service (NFS) camping experience. You can reach them at (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777 for inquiries, although direct contact for issue resolution may be limited based on recent feedback.
Indian Ford Campground is described as a simple, no-frills campground situated in a wooded setting. Being an NFS campground, it typically offers a natural environment for those looking to immerse themselves in the outdoors. The campground's proximity to the town of Sisters is noted as a significant advantage, providing easy access to essential supplies, including water, as there are no water hookups or services directly on-site.
However, recent customer reviews present a mixed perspective on the camping experience at Indian Ford Campground. One reviewer mentioned the campground's close proximity to the highway, which they personally did not find problematic. However, they raised concerns about the prevalence of yellow jackets and flies throughout the campground. This could be a significant factor for campers who prefer a less insect-intensive environment, especially during certain times of the year.
The spacing between campsites was also a point of contention in one review, with the assessment that sites were not as far apart as some might expect. This could impact the sense of privacy and seclusion that some campers seek when choosing a wooded campground.
While the presence of plenty of trees is mentioned as a positive aspect, one reviewer noted that these trees did not provide adequate shade at their specific campsite or the adjacent ones. Shade can be a crucial factor for comfort, particularly during the warmer months, and the lack of it at some sites could detract from the overall experience.
A significant issue highlighted in a recent review concerned a discrepancy regarding the burn ban in the Deschutes National Forest. The reviewer stated that the ban had been lifted prior to their arrival, and they had chosen Indian Ford Campground expecting to be able to have a fire. However, upon arrival, a "no fires" notice was posted at the campground. This contrasts with other campgrounds in the area that reportedly updated their reservation platforms with burn ban information. Furthermore, the reviewer mentioned a lack of clear communication or a reasonable way to resolve this issue with the campground management, as they were denied a refund despite their understanding of the campground's rules regarding partial refunds.
Adding to the negative experience, the same reviewer recounted that within a short period of being at their site, two other groups of campers approached them to offer their sites as they had decided to leave rather than stay the night. This suggests that the issues encountered were not isolated and may have affected the overall satisfaction of multiple visitors during that time.
On a more positive note, the reviewer mentioned excellent cell phone service at their campsite, which allowed them to research and find an alternative camping location. While good cell service can be beneficial for some, it underscores the fact that they chose to leave Indian Ford Campground in favor of another option.
In contrast to the detailed negative feedback, another reviewer offered a brief but positive assessment, stating that NFS campgrounds are generally simple, located in pretty and wooded settings, and typically quiet. They also echoed the sentiment that Indian Ford Campground is close to the town of Sisters, which they viewed as a benefit.
Considering these contrasting viewpoints, potential campers should be aware that Indian Ford Campground offers a basic, National Forest Service camping experience in a wooded area near Sisters, Oregon. While the proximity to town is convenient, recent experiences suggest potential drawbacks such as insect presence, possibly less private campsites, potential lack of shade at some sites, and possible issues with communication and adherence to advertised amenities or policies, such as fire regulations. The availability of water and other utilities is also limited, as is typical for NFS campgrounds.
For those searching for "camping near me" in the Sisters area, Indian Ford Campground could be an option if you are looking for a simple, wooded setting close to town and are prepared for a no-frills experience. However, it would be prudent to check current conditions, fire restrictions, and any recent updates or reviews before making a reservation. Given the reported difficulties in contacting management for issue resolution, it's essential to have realistic expectations and be prepared for self-sufficiency during your stay. While some may find the simplicity and natural setting appealing, others may be less tolerant of the reported inconveniences and lack of certain amenities.

Indian ford campground Reviews
Right by the highway, a not an issue for myself. Yellow Jackets and flies everywhere. The spaces were not so far apart as some people would state. It's close to Sisters, so you can get anything you may need, including water as there's none on site. There were plenty of trees, but they did not equate to any shade at my site nor the several to my sides. The burn ban in the Deschutes was lifted prior to our arrival, we'd picked this site because we should have been able to have a fire, though they had posted on site for no fires. Other campgrounds at the time had listed burn bans on their reservation platforms, this one did not. One awesome thing about this site, I had great cell service, which was perfect, as it allowed us to just go to a different camp site to have a nice weekend. Others must have felt the same, as in the hour we spent on our phones looking for another campground, two people approached asking if we needed a site, because they decided they were just going to leave instead of stay the night there as well. They also would not refund, though their rules listed we were due a partial refund, but they don't have any reasonable way to reach them to resolve issues either. If you look closely in the pictures I took, you can even see a car in the background on the highway. Blurriness due to yellow jackets.
Oct 02, 2024 · MIHCELLPH (MIHCELLPH)NFS campgrounds are simple. No utilities but, the settings are usually pretty and in the woods. Nice and quiet here. Close to Sisters.
Sep 14, 2024 · Country Coach GuyThe campground was fine --- easy access off the main road, and the campsites aren't right on top of each other. We were surprised that there isn't water here though -- we probably would have chosen nearby Cold Springs campground if we'd realized that. (Which is also quieter, being a bit more protected from the road.)
Sep 30, 2023 · Sarah TrentI stay here quite frequently on my cross state business trips. The atmosphere is fantastic, and getting a great central Oregon camping experience while having to drive from the coast to Boise is great for clearing my mind.
May 19, 2023 · BadPDX ParkingThis camp has little to recommend except that it is available. The pit toilet is reasonably clean. There are lots of trails from here mostly frequented by bicycles. You need to go about a mile down a trail to get away from traffic noise. That's pretty much the only noise there is. The people here have been very quiet.
