Irish Point Dispersed Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Boise, Idaho area, Irish Point Dispersed Campground, located off Forest Rd 268IP, Boise, ID 83716, USA, offers a more rustic and natural camping experience. You can reach them at (208) 863-2797 or +1 208-863-2797. Combining your search for "camping near me" with the specific characteristics of Irish Point Dispersed Campground reveals a location that emphasizes a connection with nature, though it comes with certain considerations typical of dispersed camping areas.
The term "dispersed campground" generally implies a less developed camping area, often located along forest service roads, where amenities are minimal or non-existent, and camping is typically free. Irish Point appears to fit this description, offering an opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural environment surrounding Boise National Forest.
Environment:
Based on the limited information available, the environment at Irish Point Dispersed Campground is characterized by a setting amongst pine trees, offering shade, which is a significant advantage, especially during warmer months. One reviewer noted that it is "worth the extra drive to be in some pine trees and shade," suggesting a more forested environment compared to potentially more open areas closer to Boise. The access to the campground involves traveling on "bumpy dirt roads," indicating that the location is somewhat removed from paved thoroughfares and might require vehicles suitable for unpaved conditions or at least a slower, more cautious approach.
The presence of a "decent fishing" area and a "good swimming area for families" suggests that Irish Point is likely located near a water body, such as a creek, river, or possibly a lake or reservoir within the Boise National Forest. These natural features enhance the appeal of the campground for those interested in water-based recreational activities. The mention of noise from the road, while not considered "too bad" by one reviewer, indicates that the campground might be situated relatively close to a forest road, which could be a source of some traffic noise.
The overall impression of the environment is one of a natural, potentially shaded area with access to water for fishing and swimming, reached via unpaved roads. The surrounding Boise National Forest likely offers a typical mountainous Idaho landscape with diverse flora and fauna.
Services:
As a dispersed campground, the services at Irish Point are expected to be minimal. The review mentioning that the "bathroom is always out" of toilet paper strongly suggests the presence of at least a basic vault toilet facility. However, the lack of consistent supplies like toilet paper underscores the need for campers to be self-sufficient. Typically, dispersed campgrounds do not offer amenities such as potable water, trash disposal, picnic tables, or fire rings at designated sites. Campers are usually required to bring their own water, pack out all their trash (following the "Leave No Trace" principles), and take necessary precautions for campfires, if permitted at all.
The specific services available at Irish Point are not detailed online beyond the mention of a bathroom that frequently lacks supplies. Therefore, local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Irish Point should be prepared for a primitive camping experience with very limited or no provided services. This necessitates bringing all essential supplies, including water, food, shelter, first-aid, navigation tools, and waste disposal bags. It is also crucial to check current regulations regarding campfires and to practice safe campfire management if fires are allowed.
The review highlighting a cleanliness issue in the bathroom ("some lovely person peed all over the floor") also points to the self-managed nature of dispersed camping areas. Maintaining cleanliness relies heavily on the responsibility and consideration of individual campers.
Features:
The primary features of Irish Point Dispersed Campground appear to be its natural setting with pine trees and shade, and its access to recreational activities such as fishing and swimming. These features make it attractive to those seeking a more outdoors-focused experience away from developed campgrounds with more structured amenities.
The potential for fishing suggests the presence of a stream, river, or lake nearby that supports fish populations. The "good swimming area for families" indicates a safe and accessible water body suitable for recreational swimming. These natural features are significant draws for families and individuals looking to enjoy water-based activities in a natural setting near Boise.
The fact that it is a dispersed campground itself is a feature for those who prefer more privacy and a less crowded camping experience compared to developed campgrounds with designated and often closely spaced campsites. Dispersed camping allows for more flexibility in choosing a campsite (within regulations) and a greater sense of solitude.
However, the mention of "nails in your tires" is a concerning feature noted by one reviewer. While it's unclear if this is a recurring issue or an isolated incident, it serves as a reminder to be cautious of potential hazards in less developed areas, particularly along access roads and within campsites. Campers might want to check their tires before and after their stay.
Promotional Information:
For local users searching for "camping near me" who value a natural and potentially secluded camping experience near Boise, Irish Point Dispersed Campground could be an appealing option. If you are looking for a place with pine trees providing shade and access to fishing and swimming opportunities, and you are comfortable with a more primitive camping setup, Irish Point might be worth considering. The fact that it is a dispersed campground often means no camping fees, making it an economical choice for budget-conscious travelers who are self-sufficient.
However, it is crucial to be prepared for the conditions. The "bumpy dirt roads" require vehicles that can handle unpaved surfaces, and a slow, careful drive is advisable. The lack of consistent bathroom supplies means you must bring your own toilet paper and be prepared for basic sanitation. Adhering to Leave No Trace principles is essential to preserve the natural beauty of the area for others. This includes packing out all trash, minimizing campfire impacts, respecting wildlife, and leaving what you find.
If you are seeking a camping experience focused on natural beauty and recreational activities like fishing and swimming, and you are equipped for self-sufficient camping in a potentially unmaintained area, Irish Point Dispersed Campground offers a chance to connect with nature near Boise National Forest. Be sure to check for any current alerts, restrictions, or road conditions from the Boise National Forest Service before planning your trip. You can contact them at the provided phone number for any specific inquiries about the campground or the area.
In conclusion, for those searching for "camping near me" and willing to embrace a more rustic experience, Irish Point Dispersed Campground offers a natural setting with the potential for fishing and swimming. However, be prepared for unpaved road access, minimal to no services, and the need for complete self-sufficiency. The reviews provide valuable insights into the potential environment and conditions, emphasizing the importance of being well-prepared and responsible when camping in dispersed areas.

Jul 28, 2023 · Thyrza LawrenceIt is a bit of a drive on bumpy dirt roads but worth the extra dive to be in some pine trees and shade.
Jul 05, 2024 · Jim Paulson (Boise Realtor)Arrive early & set up your campsite before the crowds arrive! Everyone was respectful of others’ sites but it does get crowded & busy for dispersed camping. Beautiful location & worth the longer drive to the end of the reservoir.
Sep 17, 2020 · Chelsea MertaNice, went in April so it was cold but the road was well maintained.
Mar 21, 2022 · Google ReviewerThe restrooms are atrocious. The flys simply make it not worth using. The campgrounds are quite nice. Tree's and close to the water which was absolutely perfect. It was lovely. And camping with no TV, no phone ECT was a godsend. I highly recommend going and enjoying the time spent there.
