Macks Creek Park RV Campground, located in the outskirts of Boise, Idaho, offers a unique experience for lovers of the great outdoors and recreational vehicles. The campground offers a section for RV Campers that provides for stunning views - either while sipping your coffee in the morning or twilight views of the mountains and Lucky Peak Lake over a warm campfire. The lots themselves are spacious and can easily accommodate RVs - ours is 22 ft but the ones surrounding us were larger. This is dry camping at its best - so bring what you need not to run out of water and have good batteries.Because we were there in the off season - not flurried with the boaters - it was relatively quiet and we made friends with the folks camping around us. We didn't see much wildlife - however we think that raccoons were the culprits in running off with my wife's purse in the middle of the night. We did see a lot of Quail and Orioles and a few Asprey. But otherwise no 4 legged friends were seen. The proximity is close enough to Boise that campers if desired can do day trips to the downtown as well. This site has become a reservation only. We met a person who is a local and had been fishing in this location for over 60 years was advised he needed a reservation to fish here. We didn't really feel cool about that since he was 75 years old and just trying to real in a few fish. I did catch a small brook trout from the shore using a meps lure. However, it's worth noting that some guests might find the facilities a little basic compared to some high-end RV resorts. There is a camp restroom that was adequate for taking care of business - there was a nest of bats near the bathroom but they were not an issue. There was a pump for potable water but if you wish to fill a jug it is a two person operation - one to hold your water vessel and the other to pump. But the water is very good - and the very best Idaho has to offer. Additionally, while the campground promotes a peaceful environment, occasional noise from the adjacent road and neighboring camps can interrupt the tranquility. The Army Corp of Engineer staff at Macks Creek Park RV Campground were very helpful and provided a lot of great information to us. They are always willing to help, ensuring that your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. They're knowledgeable about the area and can provide insightful recommendations for local attractions. In conclusion, Mack's Creek Park RV Campground offers an appealing blend of natural beauty and basic conveniences. It's ideal for those seeking a laid-back camping experience within reach of Boise's attractions. Although there are areas for improvement, such as facility upgrades, the campground's charms more than make up for these minor shortcomings. All in all, it's a gem of a location that deserves consideration for your next RV adventure. - Street View Pro

Macks Creek Park Introduce

For local adventurers and RV enthusiasts searching for "camping near me" that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and convenient access to urban amenities, Macks Creek Park RV Campground, located on the outskirts of Boise, Idaho at 400 Arrow Rock Rd, Boise, ID 83706, USA, presents a compelling option. This campground caters specifically to RV campers, providing spacious lots and stunning vistas that enhance the outdoor living experience.

One of the standout features of Macks Creek Park RV Campground is the breathtaking scenery it offers. Campers can look forward to waking up to picturesque views of the surrounding mountains and enjoying twilight panoramas of Lucky Peak Lake over a cozy campfire. The dedicated RV section of the campground is strategically positioned to maximize these views, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Boise foothills and the sparkling waters of the lake.

The individual camping lots at Macks Creek Park are notably spacious, comfortably accommodating RVs of various sizes. According to a visitor with a 22-foot RV, the surrounding lots were even larger, indicating ample room to maneuver and set up your campsite. It's important to note that Macks Creek Park RV Campground operates on a "dry camping" basis. This means that while the scenic beauty and spaciousness are provided, campers need to be self-sufficient in terms of water and power. Therefore, it is crucial to bring an adequate supply of water and ensure your RV batteries are in good condition to fully enjoy your stay.

For those seeking a quieter camping experience, particularly during the off-season when the bustle of boaters subsides, Macks Creek Park can offer a relatively tranquil atmosphere. Visitors during these times have reported making friends with fellow campers, fostering a sense of community among those enjoying the serene environment. While wildlife sightings of larger mammals may be infrequent, the area is home to a variety of birds, including Quail, Orioles, and Osprey, providing opportunities for birdwatching enthusiasts to connect with the local fauna. It's worth being mindful of smaller nocturnal creatures, as one visitor humorously (albeit with a touch of misfortune) recounted an encounter with raccoons.

A significant advantage of Macks Creek Park RV Campground is its close proximity to the city of Boise. This convenient location allows campers to easily undertake day trips to downtown Boise, offering a blend of outdoor recreation and urban exploration. Whether you're interested in visiting local attractions, dining at restaurants, or simply experiencing the city life, the accessibility of Boise from the campground adds another layer of appeal for those who appreciate having urban conveniences within a short drive.

It's crucial for prospective campers to be aware that Macks Creek Park RV Campground now operates on a reservation-only basis. This policy ensures that campers have a secured spot upon arrival, especially during peak seasons. Interestingly, this reservation requirement even extends to local residents who have traditionally used the area for activities like fishing, as highlighted by a long-time local fisherman who was advised of the new rule. While this change might present a slight adjustment for spontaneous visitors, it ultimately contributes to a more organized and predictable camping experience for those with reservations.

While the natural beauty and spacious sites are major draws, it's important to have realistic expectations regarding the campground's facilities. As noted by a visitor, the facilities might be considered "a little basic" compared to high-end RV resorts. The campground does offer a restroom facility that is described as adequate for basic needs. One unique observation was the presence of a bat nest near the bathroom, although it was reported not to be an issue for visitors. Potable water is available via a pump, but filling larger containers may require two people – one to operate the pump and the other to hold the water vessel. Despite this minor inconvenience, the water quality is praised as "very good" and among the best Idaho has to offer.

In terms of the overall ambiance, while the campground aims for a peaceful environment, occasional noise from the adjacent road and neighboring campsites can sometimes disrupt the tranquility. This is a common factor in many campgrounds located near roadways or with other campers nearby, and it's something to be aware of when choosing your campsite within Macks Creek Park.

The staff from the Army Corp of Engineers at Macks Creek Park RV Campground are consistently commended for their helpfulness and the valuable information they provide to visitors. They are described as always willing to assist, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay for campers. Their knowledge of the local area can be a great resource for recommendations on nearby attractions, hiking trails, and other points of interest, enhancing your overall experience in the Boise region.

In conclusion, Macks Creek Park RV Campground offers a compelling combination of natural beauty, spacious RV sites, and convenient access to both outdoor recreation and the amenities of Boise. While the facilities are basic and some noise from the road or other campers may occur, the stunning views of the mountains and Lucky Peak Lake, coupled with the helpfulness of the staff, make it a worthwhile destination for local RV enthusiasts seeking a laid-back camping experience. Remember that reservations are now required, so plan ahead to secure your spot at this gem of a location for your next RV adventure near Boise.

One final point to consider, as mentioned by a visitor, is that specific campsites, such as those in the "10th space," may involve navigating a pretty steep hill to pack your gear down and a bit of a hike to reach the water. If you have specific site preferences or mobility concerns, it might be beneficial to inquire about the terrain of individual campsites when making your reservation.
