John Swift's Lost Silver Mine Historic Campground Reviews
Current owners are really cool/sweet people. Location is pretty choice and they offer shuttle to kayak from there BACK to the campsite! Dog friendly, pretty laid back. The locked entrance at night was nice as well.
Apr 01, 2024 · Jay WilliStopped by just to visit the river as there wasn't a good place to stop otherwise on the road. Owner thinks he owns the river, and yelled at us to get back in our vehicle because we didn't 'sign a waiver'. Sorry we wanted to stop and look, but also sorry you think you own the national park. Even the other patrons seemed disgusted by the behavior.
May 19, 2024 · MeepsterAfter driving around searching for a campsite ( the state ones were all full) a local directed us to this hidden gem. It was quiet and had lots of room for our 6 kids to roam! Having a place to buy firewood on site was really nice too! There are port a potties and a water access. Overall it was a very nice campsite. The only downside for this place is that they charge per person ( even kids) per night. That added up quickly for us .
Oct 12, 2020 · christina callihanOur 10 people party spent 2 nights there camping and canoeing at the Red River Adventure (which operates the campground). The site itself is pretty good, right by the river. You can book in advance however site allocation is done on a first come first serve basis. There are a few porta pottys but they were pretty full and dirty. There is also no water available and the only option is a spring at walking distance. One important piece of information is that the campground is located in a dry county and the staff will have you sign a contract that stipulates that you cannot drink on the property. The person that checked us in even asked us to "rat" on people breaking the rule which was kinda weird. We rented canoes from Red river adventure. The river was kinda dry and we were not able to do the big tour which was understandable. However, they told that we could get to the nearest swimming hole which was a lie. We ended up carrying the canoe on 50% of the way there. I would have appreciate more transparency on this and a discount.
Aug 29, 2016 · jérémy fabianthis was the last refuge for quiet nature camping and it is 2x the price as years before. the new cabins they have keep campers awake all night with the noise from their generators also the porta pottys are always full and smell bad, we have been coming for 20 years will never come again.
