Situated at 17800 Houghton Canal Rd, Houghton, MI 49931, USA, this resort provides a range of well-appointed rental units that cater to various needs, from individuals and couples to large families and groups. While not a traditional campground in the sense of tent sites or RV hookups, Keweenaw Waters Resort provides an exceptional alternative for those who appreciate nature and the outdoors but prefer the amenities and comforts of a high-quality rental property.
Based on glowing reviews from recent guests, Keweenaw Waters Resort excels in providing a memorable and luxurious stay. One reviewer who rented the "16B unit" described it as "perfect," highlighting the "breathtaking" morning sun and views from a private balcony overlooking the Portage Canal. This immediately establishes the resort's prime location and the potential for stunning waterfront scenery. Imagine waking up to the tranquil views of the canal, enjoying a cup of coffee on your private balcony as the sun rises – a far cry from the typical campground experience, yet still deeply connected to the natural beauty of the area.
The same reviewer further emphasized the quality of the rental unit itself, stating it was "the nicest of all the places we have rented the past 4 years in Houghton" while visiting their son at MTU (Michigan Technological University). This is a significant endorsement, suggesting that Keweenaw Waters Resort sets a high standard for lodging in the area, particularly for those visiting the university. The perfect location mentioned by the reviewer likely offers convenient access to both the university and the surrounding attractions of Houghton, making it an ideal base for various activities.
Another guest, who doesn't typically leave reviews, felt compelled to share their exceptional experience, awarding Keweenaw Waters Resort a "true 5-star resort" rating. This description paints a picture of comfortable and thoughtfully designed living spaces, ensuring that guests have ample room to relax and enjoy their stay. The open floor plans likely contribute to a sense of spaciousness and facilitate interaction among groups.
For families or larger groups, the resort appears to offer particularly well-equipped options. The same 5-star reviewer detailed a "cabin" that featured "4 bedrooms, 4 baths, a nice recreation/gaming area provided to appease the kids." This is a significant advantage for families traveling with children, providing dedicated spaces for entertainment and ensuring everyone has their own bathroom for added convenience. The inclusion of a recreation/gaming area suggests that the resort caters to keeping younger guests occupied and entertained, making it a family-friendly destination.
The amenities within the rental units at Keweenaw Waters Resort seem to be comprehensive and designed for a comfortable and self-sufficient stay. The reviewer mentioned "multiple televisions throughout," ensuring entertainment options for everyone. The presence of a "fooseball table" adds another layer of recreational fun, particularly appealing to families and groups. Furthermore, the units are equipped with "all the dishes and utensils you could need to prepare your own food right in the cabin," offering the flexibility of self-catering and potentially saving on dining expenses. The inclusion of a "washer and dryer to take care of your laundry" is a significant convenience, especially for longer stays or for families wanting to pack light.
Considering these detailed reviews, Keweenaw Waters Resort offers a compelling alternative for those searching for "camping near me" who desire a higher level of comfort, space, and amenities. Keweenaw Waters Resort Reviews
Wow! We rented the 16B unit and it was perfect. The morning sun and views on a private balcony overlooking the Portage Canal were breathtaking. The unit itself was the nicest of all the places we have rented the past 4 years in Houghton while we visited our son at MTU and the location was perfect. Extremely nice rental and can’t wait to stay there again.
Apr 29, 2025 · Ken StephensI'm not one that usually leaves reviews, and I will say this is a true 5 star resort. Very spacious, well laid out open room planning. Very clean, beautiful rooms with all the accommodations any single person or group could ask for. The cabin was very comfortable, 4 bedrooms, 4 baths, a nice recreation/gaming area provided to appease the kids. Multiple televisions throughout, a fooseball table, and all the dishes and utensils you could need to prepare your own food right in the cabin. Washer and dryer to take care of your laundry. We were very pleased with our stay.
Mar 10, 2025 · Lenny JohnsonWe had a wonderful time with our family for new years. The property was spacious with a large table for dinner and games. The view way great from multiple rooms and the boot dryers were nice after a day of skiing and snow boarding. The infrared sauna also helped post winter sports. The only downside we saw was that it was not within walking distance of downtown bars, restaurants and celebrations, however, it is a very short drive and easy parking from the downtown so the location is not a huge issue. Check in and check out were touch-less and perfect. We would highly recommend for families.
Jan 02, 2025 · Eric SmiltneekGood location, easy to find which place we were in with the big numbers on the front of the building. It was a very cozy place, well maintained! We brought out 2 dogs with and they were kind enough to put a dog blanket & 2 bowls in our room for us! (19A- Dog friendly).
Apr 07, 2025 · Natasha RudolphExcellent cabin to use. Great finishes, nice furniture, very comfortable beds, beautiful views of the canal and Hancock. So close to the snowmobile trail and to Houghton. Loved the foosball and shuffleboard. Very clean when we arrived. We’ll definitely be back!
