Lake Linden Campground Introduce
For local users in Michigan and those searching within the "camping near me" category, particularly in the Upper Peninsula, Lake Linden Campground, located at 1050 Hiltunen St, Lake Linden, MI 49945, USA, offers a "great little park" with a range of amenities and a strategic location for exploring the scenic Keweenaw Peninsula. Based on customer reviews, this campground provides a pleasant environment, clean facilities, and features that cater to both families and those looking to explore the surrounding region.
The environment of Lake Linden Campground is closely tied to its location in the charming town of Lake Linden, situated on the shores of a lake (presumably Lake Linden itself, though this is not explicitly stated in the reviews). The reviews highlight the presence of a "nice" beach and lake access, suggesting opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and enjoying the waterfront. The campground also connects to the city park, expanding the recreational options available to campers. This connection provides access to basketball and tennis courts, as well as a disc golf course, catering to a variety of interests and age groups. The overall atmosphere seems to be family-friendly, with "lots of playground equipment for kids" mentioned as a significant positive.
In terms of services and features, Lake Linden Campground appears to offer a well-rounded experience for campers:
- Campsite Quality: Reviews indicate that the campsites, including site #12 which was noted as level, generally feature "nice gravel driveways and grass pads to pitch your tent on." This suggests that both RVs and tents are accommodated. However, a recurring point is that the sites are "pretty narrow," which might lead to a feeling of being close to neighboring campers. This could be seen as a con for those seeking more privacy but a potential pro for groups camping together.
- Cleanliness: A significant positive highlighted by a reviewer is that the bathrooms were "always clean," indicating a commitment to maintaining hygiene for guests.
- Beach and Lake Access: The presence of a "nice" beach and direct lake access is a major draw, offering opportunities for swimming and enjoying the water.
- Playground Equipment: The abundance of playground equipment makes this campground particularly appealing to families with children.
- Connectivity to City Park Amenities: The direct connection to the city park expands the recreational offerings beyond the campground itself, providing access to basketball courts, tennis courts, and a disc golf course. This allows campers to engage in a variety of sports and activities without having to travel far.
- Bathroom Security: The mention of a bathroom code suggests a measure of security and potentially controlled access to these facilities. It is advised to inquire about this code before arrival to ensure ease of access.
- Reasonable Rates: One reviewer specifically noted that the rates are "extremely reasonable," making Lake Linden Campground an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers.
A significant feature of Lake Linden Campground, as pointed out by a reviewer, is its strategic location for exploring the Keweenaw Peninsula. The campground serves as a convenient base for day trips to various attractions, including:
- Copper Harbor: Approximately an hour's drive away, Copper Harbor is known for its scenic beauty, Lake Superior views, and access to Isle Royale National Park ferry.
- Calumet: About a 15-minute drive, Calumet is a historic town with significant copper mining heritage, now a National Historical Park.
- Douglass Houghton Falls: Located around 10 minutes away, these are some of the tallest and most impressive waterfalls in Michigan.
- Houghton: A 20-minute drive, Houghton is a larger town offering amenities, the campus of Michigan Technological University, and the historic Houghton-Hancock Lift Bridge.
While the reviews are largely positive, they also mention a couple of cons that potential visitors should be aware of:
- Off-Leash Dogs: A concern raised by one reviewer was the presence of many off-leash dogs in the park, with no park ranger on-site to address this issue. This led to an incident where a dog tried to get on their picnic table. Visitors with concerns about pets or those traveling with their own leashed animals should be mindful of this potential issue.
- Narrow Campsites: As mentioned earlier, the campsites are described as "pretty narrow," which might reduce the feeling of privacy between sites. While this could be beneficial for groups, individual campers or those seeking more space might find this less appealing.
- Bathroom Code: The necessity of a bathroom code, while potentially enhancing security, requires campers to obtain this code before arrival to avoid inconvenience.
The reviews do not mention any specific promotional information or discounts. To inquire about potential special rates for longer stays, seasonal offers, or group discounts, it would be best to contact the Lake Linden Campground directly using the provided phone numbers.

The reasonable rates and clean facilities make it an attractive option for those searching for "camping near me" in the Upper Peninsula. However, potential visitors should be aware of the narrow campsites and the reported issue of off-leash dogs. Overall, Lake Linden Campground appears to be a highly recommended basecamp for enjoying the natural beauty and attractions of the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Lake Linden Campground Reviews
Overall a great little park. Our site (#12) was level but all sites seem pretty narrow. Beach and lake were nice. Bathrooms were always clean. Lots of playground equipment for kids. It connects to the city park which had basketball and tennis courts. Our kids played the disc golf course. We used this park as a base and visited a lot of areas in the keweenaw. Copper harbor is about an hours drive. Calumet was about 15 minutes. Douglass houghton falls about 10 minutes. 20 minutes to Houghton.A couple of cons:1. There seemed to be a lot of people with dogs off leash in this park and there is no park ranger (like state parks) to complain to. We had one dog try to get on to our picnic table while we were making dinner.2. There is a code for the bathroom which I recommend asking for before you arrive.3. As mentioned, the sites are pretty narrow and you feel like you are sitting right next to your neighbors when you are at the campground. This would be great for a group.
Jul 07, 2024 · Jen ArmstrongThis is a nice little campground. I have stayed at a couple of the tent sites before. They have nice gravel driveways and grass pads to pitch your tent on. Rates are extremely reasonable. Highly recommended!
Mar 25, 2025 · Alex de la TorreThe Camp Host have been a lot of help and friendly. It's a small campground with a nice beach and play area. Within walking of a bigger playground and into town.
