River Bend Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Oneco, Connecticut, River Bend Campground, located at 41 Pond St, Oneco, CT 06373, USA, offers a riverside setting and various accommodation options, including cabins. They can be reached at (860) 564-3440 or their mobile number, +1 860-564-3440. However, it is important for potential visitors to consider the diverse feedback from online reviews, which present contrasting perspectives on the campground experience.
One reviewer who stayed at River Bend Campground during the summer had a positive experience, describing it as "great!" They noted that it was "very quiet even with lots of families around." This suggests that despite being a potentially family-oriented campground, it could still offer a peaceful environment for those seeking a quieter getaway. The reviewer did mention that "the cabins could use some upgrades," indicating that while functional, the cabin accommodations might not be the most modern. Despite this, their overall assessment was that it is "a great place to stay!"
In contrast, another reviewer had a significantly less favorable experience. They found the campground to be "a bit too congested," stating that it was "jammed to many people into a small area" resulting in "no privacy at all." This individual explicitly advised against choosing River Bend Campground for a "good camping experience," suggesting that the high density of campers detracted from the overall enjoyment. They felt that nearby state parks in Rhode Island offered a much better experience with more privacy, even if it meant forgoing running water and electricity at the site. This reviewer went as far as to say they could have had more privacy and quiet by setting up a tent in their own backyard. While they acknowledged that "the store was nice" and "close," they emphasized the lack of personal space due to the large number of people, estimating "probably more" than 50 other campers in the vicinity.
Based on these reviews, the environment at River Bend Campground appears to be characterized by its riverside location, as suggested by the name. The presence of cabins indicates that there are options beyond traditional tent camping. However, the density of campsites and the resulting level of privacy seem to be a point of contention among visitors. While one reviewer found it quiet despite the presence of families, another experienced significant congestion and a lack of privacy. The natural setting along the river could be appealing, but the layout and spacing of campsites appear to be a crucial factor in the overall experience.
The services at River Bend Campground include accommodation in cabins, which, according to one review, might benefit from upgrades. The mention of a store suggests that basic camping supplies and possibly other items are available for purchase on-site, which can be a convenient amenity for campers. The presence of "lots of families around" implies that the campground might cater to families with children, potentially offering family-friendly services or activities, though these are not explicitly mentioned. The availability of amenities like restrooms and showers is not directly addressed in the provided reviews, but they are typically expected at campgrounds with cabins and a significant number of sites. The presence of running water and electricity at the individual campsites is also not confirmed, with one reviewer from a different campground preferring to forgo these for more privacy, implying they might be available at some locations but not necessarily universally.
The features of River Bend Campground include its riverside location, which could offer opportunities for water-related activities or simply a scenic backdrop. The availability of cabins provides a more sheltered and potentially comfortable camping option compared to tents. The on-site store is a convenient feature for purchasing necessities. The family-friendly atmosphere, suggested by the number of families present, could be a draw for those camping with children. However, the potential lack of privacy due to congestion, as highlighted by one reviewer, could be a significant drawback for those seeking a more secluded camping experience. The need for cabin upgrades, as mentioned by another reviewer, indicates that the quality of the accommodations might vary.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Therefore, it is not possible to discuss any special offers, discounts, or unique selling points for River Bend Campground. Local users interested in staying here would need to inquire directly about pricing, availability, specific amenities at campsites and within cabins, and any current promotions.
For local residents of Oneco, CT, and the surrounding areas looking for "camping near me," River Bend Campground offers a potentially convenient option with its riverside location and cabin rentals. However, the contrasting reviews regarding quietness and privacy should be carefully considered. If a quiet, family-friendly environment near the river is appealing and the condition of the cabins is acceptable, it might be a suitable choice. However, if privacy and a less crowded setting are priorities, the negative review suggests that alternative options, such as state parks in nearby Rhode Island, might be more satisfactory, even if they offer fewer on-site amenities like a store or full hookups.
Local users considering River Bend Campground should inquire about:
- The layout and spacing of campsites to assess the level of privacy.
- The specific amenities available at each type of campsite (tent and RV) and within the cabins (e.g., electricity, water, bathroom facilities).
- The condition and features of the cabins.
- The availability and nature of restroom and shower facilities for all campers.
- Any family-oriented activities or amenities offered.
- The proximity to the river and any associated activities or regulations.
- The hours and offerings of the on-site store.
- Current rates and reservation policies.
By gathering more detailed information directly from the campground, local users can make a more informed decision about whether River Bend Campground meets their expectations for a "camping near me" experience, taking into account the mixed feedback regarding its ambiance and facilities.
In conclusion, River Bend Campground near Oneco, CT, offers a riverside location and cabin rentals, making it a potential option for local users seeking "camping near me." However, online reviews present a dichotomy, with one visitor finding it quiet and great for families, while another experienced significant congestion and a lack of privacy. The cabins are noted as potentially needing upgrades. Prospective visitors should weigh these perspectives and seek further information about the campground's layout, amenities, and current conditions to determine if it aligns with their preferences for a camping getaway.

River Bend Campground Reviews
Stayed here over the summer and it was great! Very quiet even with lots of families around. The cabins could use some upgrades but other than that it is a great place to stay!
Jan 31, 2025 · Brenna BA bit too congested for me. Jammed to many people into a small area. No privacy at all Much better was state parks in Rhode Island just over the border. I could go without the running water and electricity at the site for a little more privacy. I could have set a tent up in my backyard and had more privacy and more quiet. If you like a camp site with 50 people around you. And I’m being nice. It probably was more. Then this is for you. But if you are looking for a good camping experience then this is not the place. The store was nice. And close. Like everything and everyone.
May 28, 2024 · Blackfish fishingSince we found this campground, last year, we've been back a total of 7 times. Our families come to visit for the day, for a small charge but it's definitely worth it. We love it. You can't find any place around here, that have the amenities they have or the fun, for such an affordable price.
Jul 10, 2024 · Synthia PayneThis is our favorite campground to visit because of the wooded tent area and the Moosup River. There are plenty of rv or mixed- use sites, wooded and sunny, but the tent- only area tucked into the woods is our idea of the perfect camp setting, with nicely sized sites and good tree cover. The bathrooms are just a short walk away, and are always clean and stocked. There are lots of activities throughout the weekend, for both kids and adults. Taking a canoe or kayak up the gentle Moosup River is a breathtaking experience, with some of the best trout fishing we've found in CT! The owners and staff are so warm and welcoming, you immediately feel like family, and the other campers and guests always seem happy and friendly as well. A great place to visit each and every time!
Apr 29, 2024 · Clorinda Wrzosek4/21/23 Such a wonderful campground! Much cleaner then any other campground we have been! Helpful & friendly staff, easy check in and check out. Everything you need in the store for a wonderful weekend. Had the best fried dough.... Wonderful family campground. Excellent value for the $.
