Lake Erie Campground

The campground is maintained nicely. But the camp host is always coming around. When ever someone pulls in he walks right over to see if you have a reservation or whatever your doing there. On the day we were leaving he came an hour before check-out. Told me that check-out is at 11. I'm glad he is doing his job, but this is like a hotel. It is supposed to be a hospital place, not one that wants you to leave. I was at other camps and he was hounding them about check out too. He could have asked if we were going to stay another night. Instead he just told you the check out time and the current time. The website talks about renting propane fires from the store and says no wood fires. But there was people that brought there own firepit and had a wood fire. It would be nice if the owners would let people know that can happen or don't allow it at all. 1 or the other. The camp host said the smoke drives people away. But for me a wood fire is part of camping. Kinda sucked us bringing wood and not being able to have a fire because we didn't bring a fire pit/barrel. It didn't say we could bring our own pit/barrel on the website. We did catch alot of fish, they are sticked every year. So pretty easy to catch. And we can launch a boat from this area. - Matt Mckoon

Lake Erie Campground Introduce

Looking for a local camping spot in Anacortes, Washington? Lake Erie Campground, situated at 13260 Rosario Rd, Anacortes, WA 98221, USA, offers a range of features that might appeal to those searching in the 'camping near me' category. You can reach them at (360) 293-2772 or their mobile number +1 360-293-2772 for inquiries and reservations.

The environment of Lake Erie Campground is described as nicely maintained, providing a pleasant setting for your outdoor stay. One of its standout features is the beautiful views it offers of Mount Erie and its bluffs. Additionally, the campground is located on the shores of Lake Erie itself, providing opportunities for lakeside relaxation and reflecting the sunset, adding to the scenic beauty of the area. A small lake dock is available, perfect for unwinding by the water and for fishing.

Speaking of fishing, Lake Erie is reportedly stocked annually, making it a relatively easy place to catch fish. For those who enjoy boating, the campground also provides a boat launch area, allowing you to explore the lake further. It's worth noting that while the lake is great for fishing and relaxing by, swimming might not be ideal, and it's recommended to check with the camp hosts for more information on this.

For those who enjoy hiking and rock climbing, Lake Erie Campground boasts a fantastic location just a 5-minute walk from the base of Mount Erie hiking trails. This proximity offers easy access to outdoor adventures and the stunning vistas from the mountain. Adding to the convenience, there's a coffee shop located on the corner, which one reviewer described as the "cherry on top," offering great coffee and even selling local crag books for climbers.

In terms of services, the campground offers at least one port-a-potty with a small sink inside, which was appreciated by a visitor. The reviews also touch upon the rules and the presence of the camp host. One reviewer noted that the camp host was frequently checking on arrivals and reminding guests about the 11 AM checkout time, sometimes an hour in advance. While this was acknowledged as the host doing their job, it felt a bit like a hotel experience rather than a more relaxed campground atmosphere for some.

Another point of discussion in the reviews concerns campfires. The website reportedly mentions renting propane fires from the store and states that wood fires are not allowed. However, one guest observed that some people had brought their own fire pits or barrels and had wood fires. This inconsistency was noted as something the owners might want to clarify, either by allowing wood fires in personal pits or by strictly enforcing the no wood fires rule. The camp host apparently mentioned that smoke drives people away, but for some, a wood fire is an integral part of the camping experience. This guest was disappointed as they brought wood but didn't have a personal fire pit/barrel, which wasn't mentioned as an option on the website.

To summarize the features and environment of Lake Erie Campground for local users:

  • Beautiful views of Mount Erie and Lake Erie.
  • Stocked lake for relatively easy fishing.
  • Boat launch available for lake access.
  • A short 5-minute walk to the base of Mount Erie hiking and rock climbing trails.
  • Conveniently located near a coffee shop.
  • Nicely maintained campground.
  • Port-a-potty with a sink available.

Points to consider based on reviews:

  • The camp host is quite attentive to check-in/check-out and guest activities, which some might find less relaxed.
  • Inconsistency reported regarding wood fires versus propane fires; check current rules.
  • Swimming in the lake might not be ideal (check with hosts).

As a 'camping near me' option in Anacortes, Lake Erie Campground seems to offer a blend of natural beauty and convenient access to activities like fishing, boating, and hiking. The fantastic views of Mount Erie are a significant draw, and the proximity to the mountain's trails is a bonus for outdoor enthusiasts. While some feedback suggests a more structured approach from the camp host and potential confusion regarding campfires, the overall sentiment from at least one reviewer was that it's a "fantastic little campground."

If you are a local user looking for a well-maintained campground with scenic views, fishing opportunities, and access to Mount Erie's recreational activities, Lake Erie Campground could be a great choice. We recommend contacting them at the provided phone number to inquire about current campfire rules, swimming conditions in the lake, and to make reservations.
