Looking for a unique "camping near me" experience in the Sodus, NY area? Consider the Campground located at 7322 Sprongs Bluff, Sodus, NY 14551, USA. Based on recent feedback from visitors, this location offers a blend of natural beauty and a sense of history, providing a different kind of outdoor getaway for local users. It's important to note, as clarified by a recent visitor, that this is not a free camping spot; the current rate is $15.00 per person per night.
One reviewer described the Campground as a "beautiful and safe" place, emphasizing the presence of a caretaker who patrols to ensure safety and cleanliness. This is a significant point for local users prioritizing a secure and well-maintained environment for their "camping near me" experience. The same reviewer also highlighted that it is "primitive camping only," which means you should expect basic or no amenities beyond the natural surroundings. For those who prefer a more rustic and self-sufficient camping style, this could be a major draw.
Adding to the appeal are the opportunities for "lots of walking trails, fishing, and swimming." This indicates that the environment around the Campground is conducive to various outdoor activities, making it a versatile destination for local nature lovers. Whether you enjoy exploring on foot, trying to catch some fish, or taking a refreshing dip, this location seems to offer these options. The presence of walking trails suggests a landscape worth exploring, while fishing and swimming imply access to a water body, the specifics of which might be discovered upon visiting.
Another visitor shared a different perspective, noting that it's an "old abandoned Girl Scout camp" and a "cool place to go and take a hike." They described the atmosphere as "eerie but serene" with "lots to explore." This adds an element of intrigue, suggesting that the Campground has a past that contributes to its unique ambiance. For local users interested in sites with a bit of history or a distinctive feel, this aspect could be particularly appealing. The mention of "lots to explore" reinforces the availability of walking trails and perhaps other interesting features within the area.
It's also important to acknowledge and reconcile the seemingly contradictory information about the "graffiti and pictures of old buildings." According to the first reviewer, these were from years ago and have since been removed. This suggests that while the site may have had a more derelict appearance in the past, efforts have been made to clean it up, aligning with the current description of it being "beautiful and safe."
