Sodus Point / Lake Ontario KOA Journey Introduce
For local adventurers seeking the ideal "camping near me" experience, look no further than the Sodus Point / Lake Ontario KOA Journey, located at 7867 Lake Rd in the charming Sodus Point, New York. Situated directly on the shores of Lake Ontario, this campground offers a unique blend of natural beauty, well-maintained facilities, and exceptional customer service, making it an attractive destination for a relaxing and enjoyable getaway close to home.
The environment surrounding the Sodus Point / Lake Ontario KOA Journey is undoubtedly one of its prime assets. Being located on Lake Ontario provides campers with stunning waterfront views and easy access to the lake. One enthusiastic visitor who stayed at a lakefront site (Site #89) described enjoying "every second of our stay," emphasizing the appeal of the lakeside setting. Waking up to the sights and sounds of Lake Ontario can create a truly memorable camping experience. The proximity to the water also opens up opportunities for various water-based activities, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.
A significant highlight of this campground is the exceptional level of service provided by the staff. Multiple reviews commend the team for their friendly and accommodating nature. One guest specifically mentioned the staff being "incredibly hands on, friendly and accommodating" and ensuring they had everything needed throughout their stay. Another reviewer extended "huge thanks to the staff that helped back us in," indicating a willingness to go the extra mile to assist campers, even with tasks like parking recreational vehicles. This level of attentive and helpful service can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, making guests feel welcome and well-cared for.
It's also noteworthy that the Sodus Point / Lake Ontario KOA Journey is in its first full season as a KOA campground at the time of these reviews. This transition often comes with improvements and upgrades, and one visitor mentioned that "They are making a ton of major improvements to this campo and the efforts are already showing." This suggests that the campground is actively working to enhance its facilities and offerings, which could lead to an even better experience for future visitors. Local users might find this an opportune time to visit and witness these positive developments firsthand.
The campground offers a variety of campsites, including highly desirable lakefront options. The positive experience of the guest at Site #89 underscores the premium nature of these waterfront locations. While specific details about other site types (e.g., pull-through, tent sites) and their amenities are not provided, the mention of a lakefront site suggests that different preferences and camping styles are likely accommodated.
In terms of facilities, the reviews offer some insights. One visitor noted that the "Facilities were clean," which is a crucial aspect for camper comfort and hygiene. Clean restrooms and other communal areas contribute significantly to a positive camping experience. Additionally, the presence of a "dog park" is mentioned, making this campground a welcoming option for those who travel with pets. A designated area for dogs to exercise and socialize is a valuable amenity for pet owners.
While generally positive, one reviewer did mention a minor inconvenience regarding their specific campsite: "Fire pit was in an awkward spot given the deck, but otherwise perfect." This suggests that while the sites are well-appointed, there might be slight variations in layout that could affect the usability of certain features. However, the reviewer still considered their site "otherwise perfect," indicating that this was a relatively minor issue. It might be beneficial for prospective campers to inquire about the layout of their specific site when booking, especially if features like the fire pit are a priority.
The campground's location also offers convenient access to the nearby town of Sodus Point. One review explicitly states, "Very close to Sodus Point," indicating that campers can easily venture out to explore local attractions, dining options, and other amenities that the town might offer. This proximity to a local community can add another dimension to the camping experience, providing opportunities for off-site excursions and conveniences.

Sodus Point / Lake Ontario KOA Journey Reviews
We love this KOA! We had never heard of Sodus Point, NY - and what a miss that was. We planned a longer trip with this being our final destination before heading home. We booked a lakefront site (Site #89) and enjoyed every second of our stay. Incredibly hands on, friendly and accommodating staff made sure we had all we needed during our stay. This year is their first full season as a KOA. They are making a ton of major improvements to this campo and the efforts are already showing. This is a spot we will be sure to return to many times!
Sep 12, 2024 · Jerry FiliceLoved our site overlooking the lake! Props and huge thanks to the staff that helped back us in; it would have taken me forever, lol. Fire pit was in an awkward spot given the deck, but otherwise perfect. Facilities were clean, dog park serviceable as well. Very close to Sodus Point. We will be back I am sure.
Oct 19, 2024 · Matt WeasnerI will start by saying we are full time on the road for over 7 years. We are KOA Rewards members and have stayed at hundreds of campgrounds (many KOAs) all over the US. This is by far the worst KOA experience we've had. We reserved and paid for a "front row, lake view site" and when we arrived, were put in a back in with absolutely no lake view. There are a few sites with absolutely beautiful views of the Lake Ontario if you're lucky enough to get one. Apparently, reserving a lake view site does not guarantee you'll get one of them. When we brought it to the Manager's attention, we got a few different excuses. In any event, the site we were assigned (site 86) should not be considered "front row, lake view". We asked to be charged for a premium back in site, which would be reasonable and were offered a 5% discount, which is an absolute joke. We asked for a full refund and left. That site is nowhere near worth $600 for 5 nights. The grounds crew was very nice and tried their best to help us, but they did agree that this is a problem and that many people have complained. When you pay that much for a water view site, you expect to have a water view. The first picture is the site we were assigned, the second picture is one of the actual water view sites that we reserved. They are charging the same price for both.
Jul 30, 2024 · Crystal Davis BarnabyClean, friendly, quiet, peaceful and scenic are some of the attributes of this KOA. We love the scenic views of Lake Ontario right from our travel trailer but the best thing about this KOA are the people running it. They really go above and beyond to keep this place as nice as it is.
Sep 12, 2024 · Michael SheehanPaid for a lake view site to be staring at trees. Very small and uneven sites. Fire pit is on a hill. No pool or water access without traveling to a local public use area. Not geared towards family fun or activities.
