Pros: Grounds maintained to expectations. Pool Clean, but closed for the season.Cons: HORRIBLE BATHROOMS!!! NOT CLEANED for 3 days. We stayed during 4 days including thanksgiving. In the men's room, 3 out of 5 toilets were out of order for a long time with duct tape around the seat, including the Handicap stall, 1 of 3 showers were out of order. The shower floors were slimy. Had to bring your own toilet paper, because they were empty. Soap dispenser was empty 1 out of 2. Burned out light at entrance, with a 6 digit code to enter to use the bathroom in the dark, in the middle of nowhere?? Poop all over the floor and seats due to overflowing toilets. This is obviously not a priority, because posts from October 1, said the same thing. They were out cleaning the pool, but not the bathrooms. Also, no exhaust vents for the smells, they had a portable fan in the window. Nothing is ADA accessible, curbs and a narrow entrance door to the restrooms.3 flagpoles at the driveway entrance, with no flags on them. The multiple state parks in the area were cleaner and better maintained that this KOA.I did address my concerns with the manager on Saturday morning. No explanation given from her. - Phil

Lake Isabella / Kern River KOA Introduce

Lake Isabella / Kern River KOA, located at 15627 Highway 178, Weldon, CA 93283, USA, is a well-known campground within the Kampgrounds of America (KOA) network. It caters to a wide range of campers, including those with RVs, tent campers, and individuals or families looking to rent cabins. Situated amidst the beauty of the Sierra Mountains, and backing up to the Kern River Preserve, this KOA is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts searching for "Camping Near Me" in the Kern River Valley region.

Environment and Location

The campground's location is a significant draw, offering convenient access to a multitude of natural attractions. It is ideally positioned near both Lake Isabella and the Kern River, providing abundant opportunities for water-based activities such as boating, jet skiing, paddle boarding, fishing, windsurfing, swimming, whitewater rafting, and kayaking. For those who prefer land-based adventures, the area boasts miles of trails for off-road enthusiasts directly across the road from the campground, as well as numerous hiking and mountain biking trails like Isabella Peak Trail and Mill Creek Trail. The region is also a gateway to more expansive natural wonders, including Death Valley National Park (approximately 2.5 hours away) and the majestic Sequoia National Forest with its giant sequoia trees.

The immediate environment within the campground itself presents a mixed picture, as often is the case with popular camping destinations. Positive aspects include well-maintained grounds, particularly the pool area which is kept clean (though it is closed seasonally, typically from May 1st to September 30th). Many campers appreciate the natural beauty and the opportunity for stargazing at night due to the clear skies. The campground is described as having a "Western theme" by some, adding to its unique character. However, there have been consistent complaints regarding the condition of the bathrooms, with reports of them being unclean for extended periods, toilets out of order, slimy shower floors, and lack of toilet paper and soap. Some reviews indicate that the campground, while having character, could use some updating, and that the Wi-Fi can be weak, particularly in sites further from the office. There are also mentions of the campground being close to a loud highway, which might affect the tranquility for some sites. Despite these issues, the overall natural surroundings remain a key attraction.
