Lake Manawa Campground Introduce
For local users in and around Council Bluffs, Iowa, who are searching for "camping near me," Lake Manawa Campground, located within Lake Manawa State Park at Office, 1100 S Shore Dr, Council Bluffs, IA 51501, USA, offers a conveniently situated option for your outdoor adventures. Based on recent customer feedback, this campground provides ease of access, clean facilities, and proximity to recreational activities associated with Lake Manawa. This introduction will detail the environment, services, and features of Lake Manawa Campground, drawing from the provided reviews to give local users a comprehensive understanding of what to expect during their stay.
Lake Manawa State Park itself is a significant recreational area in the Council Bluffs vicinity, centered around the 659-acre oxbow lake from which it derives its name. For local users seeking "camping near me" with access to water-based activities, Lake Manawa Campground's location within the state park is a major advantage. The environment surrounding the campground likely includes the lake itself, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming (at the nearby beach, which may have an admission fee). The landscape might also feature open grassy areas and potentially some natural woodlands, although the campground itself is noted to lack mature trees within the camping sites.
One of the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews is the ease of the entire process, from reservation to finding your campsite. This suggests an efficient and user-friendly system, which is particularly appealing for local users looking for a hassle-free camping experience. The campground is also commended for being clean and well-maintained, indicating a commitment to providing a pleasant environment for guests. Furthermore, the easy access to Lake Manawa itself is a significant draw, allowing campers to readily enjoy the lake's recreational opportunities.
The restroom and shower facilities at Lake Manawa Campground are described as spacious and clean, which is a crucial factor for camper comfort and hygiene. Knowing that these essential facilities are well-maintained adds to the overall positive impression of the campground's services. For RV campers, the presence of "nice concrete pads and full hookup" is a significant benefit. Full hookups typically include connections for electricity, water, and sewer, providing a comfortable and convenient experience for RV travelers. The gated entry also suggests a focus on security and controlled access to the campground.
Recreational amenities near the campground include a free playground, which is excellent for families with children, and a beach area (though a review mentions a potential admission fee for the beach). These nearby facilities enhance the appeal of Lake Manawa Campground for a variety of campers, offering options for both active play and relaxation by the water.
However, the reviews also point out some drawbacks that local users should be aware of when considering "camping near me" at Lake Manawa Campground. One significant issue mentioned is the complete lack of trees within the campsites. This results in sites feeling exposed, less cozy, and somewhat akin to "camping in a parking lot." The absence of shade can also be a concern during hot summer months. Campers who value the natural aesthetic and shade provided by trees might find this aspect of Lake Manawa Campground less appealing.
Another concern raised is the presence of "tons of stickers/sandburs in the grass," which prevented children from playing much outside. This could be a significant inconvenience, especially for families with young children or those who plan to spend a lot of time outdoors around their campsite. Campers should be prepared for this possibility and take appropriate precautions.
A minor inconvenience noted by an RV camper is the high placement of the sewer pipe, which made it slightly difficult to get a good seal on the connector when emptying tanks. While not a deal-breaker, this is something RV owners should be aware of.
Finally, one camper reported an issue with the electricity not working at their site. While this camper was in a tent and only needed it to charge an electric skateboard, it highlights a potential maintenance issue that local users with electrical needs should be mindful of. It might be prudent to check the functionality of the electrical hookup upon arrival at your site.
In summary, Lake Manawa Campground offers several advantages for local users seeking "camping near me," including:
- **Ease of Access and Reservation:** A streamlined process for booking and arrival.
- **Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities:** Including spacious and clean restrooms/showers and a generally tidy campground.
- **Full RV Hookups and Concrete Pads:** Providing a comfortable and convenient experience for RV travelers.
- **Proximity to Lake Manawa:** Offering easy access to the lake and its recreational opportunities.
- **Nearby Amenities:** Including a free playground and a beach (with a potential fee).
- **Gated Entry:** Enhancing security within the campground.
However, potential campers should also be aware of the drawbacks:
- **Lack of Trees:** Resulting in exposed and less aesthetically pleasing campsites with limited shade.
- **Stickers/Sandburs in Grass:** Potentially limiting outdoor play and requiring caution when walking in grassy areas.
- **Potentially Inconvenient Sewer Hookup:** For RV users due to the height of the pipe.
- **Possible Electrical Issues:** As reported by one camper.
To make the best decision for your "camping near me" experience, local users are encouraged to consider these points and perhaps contact Lake Manawa Campground directly at (712) 366-0220 or +1 712-366-0220 to inquire about site availability, specific amenities, and any recent updates regarding the conditions mentioned in the reviews. Weighing the convenience and facilities against the lack of natural shade and potential for stickers will help you determine if Lake Manawa Campground is the right choice for your local camping needs.

Lake Manawa Campground Reviews
The process to reserve, the ease of access, the restroom/shower was spacious and clean, and finding my spot was all so easy it's hard to complain about them. The campground was clean and well maintained, easy access to the lake. My one complaint was that my electricity didn't work, I just had my tent but had brought my electric skateboard with so I could ride around the lake and neighborhoods but I wasn't able to charge it in the 110/220 plug it was as if there was some type of blocking plate not allowing the plug to go into the socket.
Apr 19, 2025 · OllieNice concrete pads and full hookup for RVs with gated entry. A free playground and beach (with admission fee) are also nearby, and the restroom/showers are nice. A lot of space between sites, but no trees at all which makes the sites feel exposed, less cozy, and kind of like camping in a parking lot. Not quite five stars because there are tons of stickers/sandburs in the grass and kids couldn't play much outside. The top of the sewer pipe is high off the ground which makes for a mild inconvenience getting a good seal on the connector when emptying the tanks, but not a deal breaker.
Oct 13, 2024 · John BackerThis park is beautiful, and fairly well secured. Gate code access is needed to enter. Our campsite sat right on the water. These spaces are very level all of them have poured concrete a fire pit and a very nice secured picnic table. It is extremely easy to navigate especially with a very large RV (42-ft fifth wheel). The shower house was nice clean although we did not use it as we have a spacious on board bathroom. Since this park is so new there are no mature trees so not a lot of shade. Full hookups will give you plenty of power to run your AC. I would highly recommend this park. It is very well kept, clean, and easy to navigate.
Aug 19, 2024 · Debby WhiteVery quiet and clean campground that requires an access code to get past gate. All the sites are level concrete with good water pressure and stable electric. The sewer connection uses an unthreaded drop. Our spot was spacious and with a great view of the lake. Not too many bugs either!
Jul 19, 2024 · Vincent SheridanOn our way out west and found this beautiful little campground outside of Omaha. All cement roads, huge concrete pads, sturdy picnic tables and fire pits. Full 50 amp hookups. Great park with a beach area and lake plus bike trails. $26 a night.I’m editing this post because this campground is now a 10+ today. We were able to ride our bikes from our campsite all the way right into downtown Omaha on beautiful trails and over the Bob Kerrey pedestrian bridge. About a 12 mile round trip. Perfect.
