Lake Meriwether Park Introduce
For local residents in and around Gay and Woodbury, Georgia, who are searching for "camping near me," Lake Meriwether Park, located at 728 Lake Meriwether Rd, Gay, GA 30218 and also listed with the address in Woodbury, GA 30293, offers a potentially appealing destination. Situated around the scenic Lake Meriwether, this park appears to cater to both RV and tent campers seeking a tranquil outdoor experience close to home. Based on the available information, including customer reviews, we can provide a detailed introduction to Lake Meriwether Park for local users.
The environment of Lake Meriwether Park is undoubtedly centered around its namesake, Lake Meriwether. The reviews highlight the "Awesome Lake!!" and a "Beautiful morning view," suggesting that the park benefits from picturesque lakeside scenery. The mention of a quiet atmosphere further indicates a peaceful setting, ideal for those looking to escape the noise of everyday life. While one review notes that fishing from the bank is "lousy," the presence of the lake itself implies opportunities for other water-based activities, although it's specified that "no gas engines" are allowed on the lake. This restriction often contributes to a more serene and environmentally friendly atmosphere, suitable for activities like kayaking, canoeing, or paddle boating (if permitted and available). The park seems to offer a blend of natural beauty and tranquility, making it an attractive option for local campers seeking a lakeside retreat.
In terms of services, the limited information available still provides some valuable insights. One reviewer specifically mentions the "Bathrooms' very clean shower room is very clean and spacious." This is a significant positive aspect, as clean and well-maintained comfort stations are crucial for a comfortable camping experience. The reference to a "comfort station" also suggests the presence of restroom facilities for both RV and tent campers. While details about other services like water hookups, electrical hookups, or sewage disposal for RVs are not explicitly mentioned in the reviews, the statement "Nice place for RV's" implies that such amenities are likely available, catering to the needs of RV travelers. Tent spots are also mentioned as being "not far from the comfort station," indicating designated areas for tent campers with relatively convenient access to facilities. Further information would be needed to confirm the availability of other potential services such as picnic tables, fire rings, or on-site staff.
The features of Lake Meriwether Park appear to be closely tied to its natural setting and the lake itself. The primary feature is undoubtedly Lake Meriwether, offering opportunities for non-motorized boating and potentially swimming (though this would need to be confirmed through park regulations). The quiet environment, as noted by a reviewer, can be considered a significant feature for those seeking a peaceful getaway. The availability of both RV sites and tent spots caters to a broader range of camping preferences among local users. While the bank fishing is reported as poor, those with non-gas-powered boats might have a different experience on the lake. The annual "BBQ Bash" mentioned in one review suggests that the park might host events or gatherings, which could be an attractive feature for local residents looking for community activities in a natural setting. The clean and spacious shower rooms also stand out as a positive feature contributing to the overall comfort of campers.
Promotional information is not directly provided in the given reviews. To attract local users, Lake Meriwether Park might offer various promotions such as seasonal discounts, weekday specials, or group rates. Local residents could benefit from any "stay local" initiatives or packages that might be available. To obtain information about current promotions, local users are advised to contact the park directly using the provided phone numbers: (706) 975-3110 or +1 706-975-3110. They may also have a website or listings on local tourism platforms where promotional offers are advertised. Inquiring about any upcoming events, such as the annual BBQ Bash, could also be of interest to local residents looking for more than just a typical camping experience.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Gay and Woodbury areas, Lake Meriwether Park presents a compelling option, particularly for those who appreciate a quiet, lakeside setting. The positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of the facilities is a significant draw. The park's apparent suitability for both RVs and tents makes it versatile for different types of campers. While the bank fishing may not be a highlight, the lake itself offers opportunities for other recreational activities. Local users should consider contacting the park directly to inquire about specific amenities, lake access rules, boating regulations, and any current promotions to ensure it meets their needs.
The dual listing of addresses in Gay and Woodbury might indicate that the park is situated on the border of these two towns, making it easily accessible to residents of both. This local accessibility is a key advantage for those seeking a quick and convenient camping escape. The peaceful ambiance, combined with the beauty of Lake Meriwether, suggests a relaxing environment for a weekend getaway or a longer stay. Local campers who value cleanliness and a serene setting will likely find Lake Meriwether Park appealing.
In conclusion, Lake Meriwether Park, located near Gay and Woodbury, GA, offers a potentially attractive "camping near me" option for local residents. Its lakeside environment, coupled with reports of clean and spacious facilities, suggests a comfortable and peaceful camping experience. The park accommodates both RVs and tents, making it a versatile choice. While more information on specific amenities and lake activities would be beneficial, the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews, along with the convenience of its local setting, make Lake Meriwether Park a worthwhile consideration for your next camping adventure. Contacting the park directly for the most up-to-date information and any available promotions is recommended.

Lake Meriwether Park Reviews
Very quiet. Nice place for RV's. A few tent spots not far from the comfort station. Fishing is lousy, at least from the bank. Someone may have better luck with a boat, but no gas engines.
Apr 22, 2025 · Misti BryanAwesome Lake !! Beautiful morning view. Here for the annual BBQ Bash. Bathrooms' very clean shower room is very clean and spacious. Most definitely be back next year. Will recommend to friends for camping.
Apr 12, 2025 · Valerie CosbyWe have camped here, played Frisbee golf, and enjoyed beautiful scenery of the lake. The bathrooms could use an upgrade but not terrible. This is a reservoir so they do not allow gas boat motors which make it a much cleaner environment and quiet. I have seen cranes, whitetail deer, I've caught bass and crappie here. Mine and my daughters favorite spot to be close to nature.Wish they had electric plug and water at each camp site. I would pay more for the amenities.
Apr 29, 2023 · Ocean EyesNuce quiet campground. Fully enjoyed the reset while camping.
Mar 27, 2025 · Chris SimsWonderful spot for a weekend away. The lake and grounds are beautiful. I really enjoyed myself. Just wish some of the campers and other visitors would take care of their trash. 😟
