Lake Miola Campgrounds Introduce
For local residents in the Paola, Kansas area and those in neighboring communities seeking a "camping near me" destination with lake access, Lake Miola Campgrounds, located at H5W3+5F, Paola, KS 66071, USA, offers a lakeside setting for a quick getaway. You can reach them at (913) 259-3620 or their mobile number +1 913-259-3620 to inquire about reservations and availability. Based on recent customer feedback, the campground presents a mixed experience with both commendable aspects and areas for potential improvement.
One of the consistently praised features of Lake Miola Campgrounds is the kindness and helpfulness of the people managing it. Monte and his wife Laurie are specifically mentioned for going "above and beyond" to assist campers with necessities, provide local information, and ensure security within the campground. This personal touch and dedication to guest well-being can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making visitors feel welcomed and cared for. The positive sentiment expressed by one reviewer who plans to return the following year speaks to the impact of this hospitable management.
The environment of Lake Miola Campgrounds is centered around its namesake, Lake Miola. The proximity to the water offers opportunities for various lake-related activities. One reviewer highlighted the "great designated swimming area," suggesting a safe and enjoyable space for campers to cool off during warmer months. Additionally, the fishing down by the dam is described as "pretty decent," appealing to anglers looking to spend some relaxing time by the water. The lake is also noted as an "ideal lake though to learn to wakeboard or ski, tube, etc..." with "decent boat traffic" and a long, straightaway, providing a safe environment for watersports enthusiasts to learn and enjoy these activities without the immediate fear of collisions.
However, potential campers should be aware of some limitations mentioned in the reviews. RV parking in some lakeside areas is described as "pretty small," which might pose a challenge for those with larger recreational vehicles. It's advisable to inquire specifically about site dimensions when making a reservation if you are traveling in an RV.
Another significant point raised by a reviewer concerns the adequacy of the restroom and shower facilities. With only one urinal, one toilet, and two showers for all campers and RVers, there might be potential for overcrowding or waiting times, especially during peak season. Furthermore, the showers are reported to "struggle to push out water," which could impact the comfort of showering. This is an essential factor for those who value clean and efficient restroom facilities during their camping trips.
The terrain of some campsites, particularly those directly by the lake, may also present challenges. One reviewer experienced a site that was entirely on a slant, making it difficult to find a flat spot to set up a tent and sleep comfortably. If tent camping is your plan, it would be prudent to inquire about the levelness of the available sites when booking.
A notable absence reported by a camper was the lack of fire pits or any designated area for having a fire. This is a significant consideration for many who view campfires as an integral part of the camping experience, both for ambiance and for cooking. The reviewer had to make an unplanned trip to purchase a small barbecue grill and source firewood locally, highlighting that basic amenities like fire pits might not be universally available at each campsite. This is a crucial piece of information for those planning to cook over a fire during their stay.
The reviewer who noted the absence of a fire pit also mentioned the lack of "any sort of public water" at the campsites. This could mean that campers need to bring their own potable water or rely on the facilities near the restrooms, which might be inconvenient depending on the location of their site. The absence of these commonly expected amenities, such as fire pits and readily accessible water sources, is something to consider when planning your trip to Lake Miola Campgrounds.
Despite these drawbacks, the appeal of being outdoors, the presence of a "great designated swimming area," and the "pretty decent fishing down by the dam" offer compelling reasons to consider Lake Miola Campgrounds for a local getaway. The lake's suitability for learning watersports is another unique feature that could attract those interested in activities like wakeboarding, skiing, and tubing.
In summary, Lake Miola Campgrounds offers the following environment, services, and features for local campers:
- Lakeside location: Providing access to Lake Miola for swimming, fishing, and watersports.
- Helpful management: Monte and Laurie are praised for their kindness, assistance, and focus on security.
- Designated swimming area: A safe space for swimming in the lake.
- Decent fishing: Opportunities for fishing near the dam.
- Ideal for learning watersports: A long, straightaway on the lake offers a safe environment for beginners.
- Proximity to amenities: Located within a 10-minute drive to Walmart and Casey's for supplies.
However, potential campers should also be aware of the following:
- Small RV parking in some lakeside areas.
- Limited restroom and shower facilities (one urinal, one toilet, two showers with low water pressure).
- Slanted campsites by the lake may make tent setup difficult.
- Lack of fire pits or designated fire areas at campsites.
- Potentially no public water sources directly at the campsites.
For local users seeking a "camping near me" experience centered around Lake Miola and its recreational opportunities, the campground offers a convenient option. The kind management and the lake's appeal for swimming, fishing, and watersports are significant draws. However, it's essential to be aware of the limitations regarding restroom facilities, campsite terrain, and the absence of fire pits and potentially public water sources. When making a reservation, it would be wise to inquire about site suitability for your equipment and any specific amenities available at your chosen location. Despite some reported shortcomings, the overall experience of being outdoors and enjoying Lake Miola might still make this a worthwhile local camping destination for those prepared for its specific characteristics.

Lake Miola Campgrounds Reviews
Pretty small in some lakeside areas for RV parking, but very kind people. Monte and his wife Laurie go above and beyond to provide necessities, information, and security. Will be back next year.
Nov 30, 2024 · Geoi DavisNot bad for a quick getaway from Kansas City but i do wish there were more than one facility for everyone who's camping or RVing to use the restroom, shower, and the facility isn't much with one urinal and one toilet, two showers that struggle to push out water. The campsite we had was up against the lake which sounded amazing until we got there and the entire site was on a slant so finding a flat place to set up your tent and sleep was also not the greatest. I've been camping quite a bit and this is the first place that didn't have any sort of fire pit or anything to not only have a fire, as most camp-outs do, so there goes cooking over a fire for meals.. luckily Walmart was within 10 minutes or so to head back for the smallest possible bbq grill and tried to find wood but none at Walmart but luckily Casey's had some.Maybe i took the fire pit, semi flat ground, some sort of public water, etc for granted but you'd be hard pressed to go to a reputable place and not have at least one of them. Overall though it's nice to be outside, a great designated swimming area, and pretty decent fishing down by the dam. This is an ideal lake though to learn to wakeboard or ski, tube, etc... Decent boat traffic but long straight away with no fear of being run over if you fall.
Jul 13, 2024 · John GronerExcellent place to camp. Definitely as good as Hillsdale. The only draw back was we have a 32 trailer. So the site we were in was not deep or wide enough. But it was right by the water. We learned that there was other sites right by the water that we could fit our trailer on and have plenty of room. Its just a learning experience. No different than other places you have to learn what are the best sites. Depending on what you are looking for. The only draw back is the camp host site is an eye sore. Needs to clean up area around the camper. Hard to enforce rules if it looks like the host is not complying.
Aug 15, 2023 · Michael GiesThis is our first time here and so far, we are very pleased. The campsites are nice and fairly level and all are very near the water and if you need or want something from the store, it is only a couple of minutes away. The lake is beautiful and there is a great playground for the kids.
Jun 07, 2024 · Brian GlennBeautiful views, right on the lake! Small and everyone was personable and friendly! Our favorite place so far for sunrises. Kept our site easily paying a fee days at a time. Super close to Paola which is a really neat town! If you can avoid the camp hosts site as much as possible, do it. It was hard to get to the rv with out stepping in dog poop. It's everywhere, but honestly, she was nice and it wouldn't stop us from staying there again.
