Lake of the Woods Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Wautoma, Wisconsin area, Lake of the Woods Campground, located at N9070 14th Ave, Wautoma, WI 54982, USA, is one option to consider. You can reach them at (920) 787-3601 or their mobile number +1 920-787-3601 for inquiries. However, it's important to be aware of recent feedback regarding the campground's condition and upkeep, as indicated by online reviews.
One reviewer who visited recently expressed significant disappointment with their experience, despite acknowledging the friendly and accommodating nature of the staff. They mentioned that the staff was great and allowed them to move campsites, which suggests a willingness to address guest needs. However, this positive aspect was overshadowed by concerns about the overall state of the campground.
The reviewer described the campground as "so run down," noting the presence of dead trees. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the pond, stating that it did not resemble the pictures they had seen and appeared "so gross" that they chose not to swim in it. This suggests that the natural environment, particularly the pond, may not be as appealing as potentially advertised.
Another significant issue encountered by this reviewer was the inadequacy of the power supply at their campsite. They reported not having enough power to run both of their air conditioning units simultaneously, leading to frequent breaker tripping. Given that they paid over $100 per night, they felt that the level of upkeep should have been considerably better. This raises concerns about the functionality and maintenance of the electrical infrastructure at the campsites.
Based on this recent experience, the reviewer concluded that they were "very disappointed" and would not be returning to Lake of the Woods Campground. They also noted the "so much potential" that the campground seemed to possess, implying that the current state of disrepair is a significant detraction from what could be a much more enjoyable destination.
Adding to these concerns, another review from someone who had visited the campground 10 years prior noted a significant decline in its condition. They stated that the campground was "no where near what it used to be" and observed a "lot of permanent sites for sale." This suggests a potential shift in the campground's focus or ownership, possibly leading to a decrease in the maintenance and upkeep of transient campsites and overall facilities.
This second reviewer also described the sites as "run down looking" and speculated that the apparent decline could be attributed to corporate ownership. They expressed sadness at seeing a "once nice campgrounds going down the drain." This sentiment echoes the first reviewer's observation of the campground's untapped potential.
Considering the "camping near me" category, Lake of the Woods Campground presents a mixed picture based on recent online feedback. While the staff is acknowledged as friendly and accommodating, significant concerns have been raised regarding the campground's overall condition, including dead trees, a seemingly uninviting pond, and potentially inadequate electrical power at some sites. The observation of run-down sites and a perceived decline over time further contribute to these concerns.
The fact that one reviewer paid over $100 per night highlights that the pricing may not align with the current state of the facilities, leading to a sense of disappointment and a feeling that the value for money is not there. Potential campers searching for "camping near me" in the Wautoma area should carefully consider these recent experiences before making a reservation at Lake of the Woods Campground.
Given the information available, there are no specific details provided about other services or features that might typically be expected at a campground, such as restroom and shower facilities, recreational areas (besides the questionable pond), or organized activities. The focus of the reviews is primarily on the negative aspects of the environment and infrastructure.
There is also no promotional information available in the provided text. The reviews serve as cautionary feedback rather than endorsements. Therefore, potential local users searching for "camping near me" should approach Lake of the Woods Campground with awareness of the reported issues.
To obtain a more comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the campground's current condition and amenities, it would be advisable to contact Lake of the Woods Campground directly at (920) 787-3601 or +1 920-787-3601. Inquiring about recent improvements or addressing the concerns raised in the reviews might provide a clearer picture. Asking specific questions about the pond's current state, the reliability of the electrical hookups at the campsites, and any ongoing maintenance efforts would be prudent before making a booking.
In conclusion, while Lake of the Woods Campground may have had a positive reputation in the past, recent reviews indicate significant concerns regarding its current condition and upkeep. Local users searching for "camping near me" in Wautoma should weigh the reported issues against the acknowledged friendly staff and consider other options before deciding to stay at Lake of the Woods Campground. It is recommended to seek further information directly from the campground to make an informed decision.

Lake of the Woods Campground Reviews
Great staff, very friendly. Let us move campsites! But campground was so run down, dead trees, pond didn’t look like the pictures we didnt even actually swim in it, it looked so gross. We didn’t get enough power at the site to run both our ac units at the same time, kept popping the breaker. For over $100 a night you’d think the upkeep would be better. Very disappointed and won’t be returning. So much potential but just wasn’t there.
Sep 04, 2024 · Laura SheltonI haven’t been to this campgrounds in 10yrs but from what I remembered it was a nice campground. From what I seen the weekend it’s no where near what it used to be. Lot of permanent sites for sale. Sites were run down looking. Can definitely tell it’s corporate owned now. Sad to see a once nice campgrounds going down the drain.
Jul 14, 2024 · Dave BI have to say, your reserve deputy who works as a security officer is off. After several nights of seeing him standing by in his golf cart watching us nightly as we walked our dogs, being one of the few costumers in the area, concerned us. This is coming from a person who had spent over 25 years in law enforcement. Totally weird and glad we are gone. 🚩🚩🚩🚩. Totally weird.
Sep 15, 2024 · Matthew GoncherI never leave reviews, but felt I needed to for this spot. I was nervous based on some reviews, but this campground was one my non state park favorites! The pool was clean, the dog park was helpful with 2 young pups, the bathrooms were clean, and our kids did not want to leave. There were plenty of activities for the kids (and adults). We will definitely be back!
Jul 31, 2023 · Jenni HagenPlenty of rv and tent locations. The staff was wonderfully helpful. The lake has ample fishing and small boat access. The pool and bath house were easily accessible.
