This suggests that even if other campers are present, you are likely to have a sense of personal space and not feel overcrowded.
One reviewer who visited in early March reported that "nobody was here," indicating that Landers Camp can offer a truly secluded experience, especially during the off-season. This could be particularly appealing to those seeking solitude and a break from more crowded campgrounds. The same reviewer also mentioned that "the roads were all in great condition," suggesting that access to the campsite is relatively easy, which is an important consideration when planning a camping trip.
The location of Landers Camp, with a "nice drive up from jawbone canyon" and its proximity to Sequoia National Forest, highlights its potential for scenic beauty and access to outdoor activities. One camper mentioned encountering "some snow getting up here in the Sequoia National Forest," indicating that the elevation might be significant enough to experience varying weather conditions, especially during the shoulder seasons. This proximity to the National Forest suggests opportunities for hiking, exploring the giant sequoia trees, and enjoying the diverse landscapes of the region.
The reviews consistently emphasize the tranquility of Landers Camp. One camper described it as having "peace and quiet," which is a primary draw for many seeking a respite in nature. The absence of wind in the evening, as noted by one visitor, can greatly enhance the camping experience, especially during colder nights. However, this reviewer also advised coming prepared for cold weather with layers, socks, warm shoes, and even a buddy heater, as they experienced a cold night despite the calm conditions.
A significant highlight of Landers Camp appears to be the exceptional night sky. One reviewer raved about the "beautiful night sky with a clear sky full of stars." This makes Landers Camp an ideal location for stargazing enthusiasts who appreciate dark skies away from city lights. The peaceful and quiet environment further enhances the experience of observing the celestial wonders.
For those who enjoy being active outdoors, Landers Camp is described as "a great place to walk/hike and explore." The surrounding area, particularly its proximity to Sequoia National Forest and the drive up from Jawbone Canyon, likely offers diverse terrain and scenic trails to discover. Campers should be prepared for varying elevations and potential weather changes depending on the time of year.
One camper's experience of waking up to "frozen condensation inside of our tent" and frozen water supplies serves as a reminder that even with calm evenings, temperatures at Landers Camp can drop significantly, especially during colder months. This reinforces the advice to come prepared with appropriate gear for cold weather camping. The fact that they still expressed their intention to return ("We will be back") speaks volumes about the overall positive experience despite the cold conditions.

Landers Camp Reviews
Cool spot, the restrooms are clean and useful. Plenty of room for 20-30 vehicles to spread out. Nobody was here when I visited in early March. The roads were all in great condition.
Mar 09, 2025 · Peter WeldonVery nice location with a nice drive up from jawbone canyon. There was some snow getting up here in the Sequoia National Forest. We were the only people here camping. There was no wind in the evening which was perfect because it was a cold night, so come prepared with your layers, socks, warm shoes, and buddy heater. The night sky was beautiful with a clear sky full of stars. It was nice to have peace and quite. This is a great place to walk/hike and explore. This morning we woke up with frozen condensation inside of our tent. The water in the root pack was frozen, but the water in the water cooler surprisingly was not. Even the baby wipes were frozen 😂.We will be back.
Jan 24, 2022 · Lisa HaBeautiful Campground hidden in the Kern County.. Perfect for all weather conditions, even in high wind. Nice clean vaulted restroom and firewood allowed.
Jan 24, 2022 · Kyle LeeI like the fact how remote this campground is coming up from hwy14 up Jawbone canyon. On site restroom/outhouse clean and functional. Very disappointed at how careless people are by not respecting the marked trails and just cutting new trails.
Aug 23, 2021 · Mel FigueroaGreat campground. No fee, a nearby spring, pit toilets. Quiet and out of the way, a destination for off road motorcyclists. Dirt roads going in can be a bit rough. Not recommended for RVs or trailers.
