Leedstown Campground Introduce
For local users in Virginia and those traveling through the region searching for 'camping near me', Leedstown Campground, located at 2195 Leedstown Rd, Colonial Beach, VA 22443, USA, offers a potentially scenic and tranquil camping experience. Situated near the historic town of Colonial Beach, the campground boasts a waterfront environment with beautiful views overlooking the river. According to customer reviews, the location is characterized by "lots of trees and shade," providing a welcome respite from the sun, unlike some campgrounds that offer little natural coverage. The riverfront setting not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also provides opportunities for activities such as fishing from the on-site pier. While the campground appears to have a number of seasonal campers, visitors during less peak times, such as late August after school has started, may find the campground to be quite empty and peaceful, offering a more secluded experience. The proximity to Colonial Beach and nearby historic sites adds to the appeal for those interested in local exploration and sightseeing.
The services at Leedstown Campground seem to be managed with a personal touch, as highlighted by a reviewer who mentioned the owner being "very helpful" and accommodating an after-hours arrival with a free upgrade to a waterfront site due to low occupancy. This suggests a potentially flexible and customer-oriented approach to service. The campground offers water hookups for campers, which were reported to be of good quality with no unusual odor or taste, especially when used with an in-line filter. A fishing pier is available for guests who enjoy angling. A "tiny beach area" is also mentioned, though it seems to be underutilized. However, a significant drawback noted in one review is the condition of the bathhouse, described as "pretty bad," "not clean," and "rather run-down." This led to one guest being nervous about using it and their husband developing a foot infection after using the shower, despite wearing flip-flops. This suggests that while basic amenities like hot water in the showers are provided, the cleanliness and upkeep of the bathhouse may be a concern for some visitors. Campers with their own bathroom facilities in their RVs or trailers would likely find this less of an issue. Other standard campground services, such as electrical hookups, sewage disposal, laundry facilities, or a camp store, are not specifically mentioned in the reviews, so it would be advisable to inquire about these when booking.
The features of Leedstown Campground are centered around its natural setting and waterfront access. The availability of waterfront campsites with beautiful river views is a significant draw, offering a picturesque backdrop for camping. The abundance of mature trees provides ample shade, creating a more comfortable and scenic environment compared to open, sunny campgrounds. The presence of a fishing pier caters to fishing enthusiasts, allowing for convenient access to the river for angling. While a small beach area exists, its underutilization suggests it might not be a primary feature for most guests. The reasonable pricing mentioned in one review makes it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers. However, the poor condition of the bathhouse is a notable feature that potential guests should be aware of. The strong presence of mosquitoes after sunset, as reported by a visitor in late August, indicates that insect repellent is a necessary item for campers during certain times of the year. The campground's location near Colonial Beach and various historic sites offers opportunities for off-site exploration and activities, enhancing the overall camping experience for those interested in local attractions.
Promotional information for Leedstown Campground is not explicitly detailed in the provided customer reviews. The free upgrade to a waterfront site mentioned by one reviewer appeared to be a gesture based on low occupancy rather than a specific promotion. To learn about any potential discounts for longer stays, seasonal rates, or other special offers, it would be best to contact the campground directly at (540) 623-3308 or +1 540-623-3308. Campgrounds, especially smaller, independently owned ones, may have varying pricing structures and occasional promotions that are not widely advertised. Inquiring directly about rates for different types of sites (waterfront vs. non-waterfront, RV vs. tent), as well as any potential discounts for extended stays or during off-peak seasons, would be beneficial for local users planning a trip.
For local users searching for 'camping near me' in the Colonial Beach area of Virginia, Leedstown Campground offers the allure of waterfront camping with scenic river views and a shady, tree-filled environment. The helpfulness of the owner and the reasonable pricing are positive aspects highlighted by a visitor. The availability of a fishing pier and proximity to Colonial Beach and historic sites further enhance its appeal. However, the significantly negative feedback regarding the cleanliness and condition of the bathhouse is a major consideration for potential guests, especially those who rely on these facilities. Campers with their own onboard restrooms would likely find this less of an issue. The presence of mosquitoes at dusk also warrants preparation. Overall, Leedstown Campground seems to offer a pleasant outdoor setting at a reasonable price, but prospective visitors should be aware of the reported issues with the bathhouse and plan accordingly.
In conclusion, Leedstown Campground in Colonial Beach, VA, provides a 'camping near me' experience characterized by its beautiful riverfront location, shady campsites, and helpful owner. The availability of a fishing pier and the campground's proximity to local attractions add to its appeal. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported poor condition of the bathhouse and the presence of mosquitoes, particularly at dusk. For those who prioritize a scenic waterfront setting and are less reliant on public restrooms, or who come prepared for insects, Leedstown Campground could offer a nice getaway. It is recommended to contact the campground directly for the most current information on services, rates, and any updates regarding the bathhouse facilities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Leedstown Campground Reviews
Camped here on our way to and from North Carolina in late August. The owner was very helpful and met us there after hours to collect $ and show us our site, which was upgraded to waterfront for free because they weren't full. There are a lot of seasonal campers here. Because school had already started, we had the place almost to ourselves. It was a beautiful site overlooking the river. There are lots of trees and shade, not like many campgrounds where you're just tightly lined up in a sunny field. The price was quite reasonable. There was a fishing pier, and also a tiny beach area that looked like it doesn't see much use. The bath house was pretty bad- not clean and rather run-down. I was a bit nervous about using it and my husband got a foot infection from the shower, even though he wore flip flops. It would be better for campers with bathrooms. The water was hot and lathered well though. Water hookup for the camper was good with no odor or weird taste (we do use an in-line filter). When we were there, mosquitos were wicked once the sun started to set, so be prepared with spray. We didn't really spend any time sight seeing because this was just a stop-over for us, but Colonial Beach is nearby and is quite nice. Also there are several nearby historic sites that we have visited in the past. If it wasn't for the bath house, I would have given this place five stars.
May 02, 2023 · Heather PapinchakWe had a nice time at this campground over the weekend. It’s small and quiet, and our site had a beautiful view of the river. My husband really enjoyed fishing as well.
Jun 05, 2023 · KristinWe spent two nights while seeing a relative in the area. Very quiet, reasonably priced and our sight was by the water. Brett, the manager was friendly and helpful. Most of the campers here are seasonal but the have a few spots for overnighters. We would definitely come again! Oh and there are eagles flying around on the river!!
Aug 22, 2021 · Darline HeatleyNothing but peace and quiet! Beautiful view of the river, great fishing, and the man who runs it was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! Very basic campground but just the ticket for a nice get away! Very affordable! Property and buildings are older but very well kept.
Aug 19, 2018 · Michelle LambertAbsolutely beautiful campground. I came in on a quiet day mid week with no reservation. Frank was very friendly and have me a spot right on the waters edge.
