Little Buffalo State Park Campground Introduce
Looking for a serene "camping near me" experience within a picturesque state park setting? Consider Little Buffalo State Park Campground, located at 483 Black Hill Rd, Newport, PA 17074, USA. This campground offers a tranquil escape with 45 campsites, catering to both tent and RV campers, and provides access to the expansive and beautiful Little Buffalo State Park.
Recent feedback from visitors offers insights into the environment and amenities at Little Buffalo State Park Campground. One camper described the park as "gorgeous quiet," highlighting the peaceful atmosphere that makes it an appealing destination for those seeking a relaxing retreat in nature. The campground is specifically noted as being "great for tent camping too," suggesting well-suited areas for those who prefer a more traditional camping experience.
A significant positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the cleanliness of the bathhouse facilities. This is a crucial factor for many campers, and the positive feedback indicates that Little Buffalo State Park Campground maintains a good standard of hygiene in this area. Clean and well-maintained restrooms and showers can greatly enhance the overall camping experience.
However, one review also pointed out a current issue regarding water availability at the campsites. The reviewer noted that there were "water issues at campsites - no water." While this is a temporary inconvenience, it's important for potential campers to be aware of this situation. The review also provided a helpful workaround, mentioning that campers can fill their water tanks next to the bathhouse. This suggests that while direct water hookups at individual sites might be unavailable, a source of potable water is still accessible within the campground.
The same reviewer also commended the camp host, describing them as "great." The host's helpfulness was specifically highlighted when they assisted the camper by lending an extra hose to add water to their tank, as the camper had inadvertently set up without reading a sign about the water situation. This positive interaction with the camp host suggests that the campground staff is responsive and willing to assist visitors, contributing to a more positive overall experience, even when challenges arise.
Despite the temporary water issue at the campsites, the reviewer who stayed for one night expressed a strong intention to return the following year to explore the rest of the "huge pretty park." This indicates that the overall appeal of Little Buffalo State Park, combined with the positive aspects of the campground such as its quiet atmosphere and clean facilities, outweighed the temporary inconvenience.
In contrast, another review brought up a concern regarding the condition of the gravel on the campground. This reviewer stated that the "gravel really needs to be packed down better" and specifically mentioned a hill leading to campsite 40 as being "rough going." This feedback suggests that while the campground is generally well-regarded, there might be areas where the terrain or ground surface could be improved for easier access and setup, particularly for RVs or campers navigating with equipment.
Considering these reviews, Little Buffalo State Park Campground offers a beautiful and tranquil setting for camping near Newport, PA. Its quiet atmosphere and the cleanliness of its bathhouse are significant advantages. The helpfulness of the camp host also contributes positively to the guest experience. The fact that it is located within a large and attractive state park provides ample opportunities for exploration and outdoor activities beyond the campground itself, which the returning visitor was eager to experience.
However, potential campers should be aware of the reported water issues at the campsites and the need to fill water tanks near the bathhouse. Additionally, the comment about the rough gravel on a hill leading to at least one campsite suggests that some areas might present challenges for maneuverability or setup, particularly for larger vehicles or those with mobility concerns.
For local users seeking "camping near me" that combines a natural, quiet environment with essential amenities, Little Buffalo State Park Campground is a strong contender. The positive remarks about the park's beauty and the cleanliness of the facilities are compelling. While the temporary water situation at campsites is a factor to consider, the availability of a water source nearby mitigates this issue. The feedback about the gravel condition on some areas might be relevant for RV owners or those requiring smooth terrain.
To get the most up-to-date information on the water situation and any ongoing improvements to the campground, it is advisable to contact Little Buffalo State Park directly through the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), which manages state parks. Their website or a phone inquiry can provide the latest details on campground conditions, availability, and any specific advisories for campers. Exploring the Little Buffalo State Park website will also offer insights into the park's numerous attractions, including trails, a lake, and historical features, further enhancing the appeal of camping at its campground.
In summary, Little Buffalo State Park Campground offers a "gorgeous quiet" camping experience within a large and beautiful state park near Newport, PA. The clean bathhouse and helpful camp host are notable positives. While there have been reports of water issues at campsites and some concerns about gravel conditions, the overall sentiment from visitors suggests a pleasant and worthwhile camping destination.
