The environment surrounding Lost Corral Horse Camp is consistently described as "pretty" and a "gem in the wilderness." Situated in the scenic Tennessee Valley, the campground benefits from the natural beauty of the region. One notable feature right at the entrance is the Scenic Tennessee Valley train, offering scheduled scenic rides up into the mountains and back. This adds a unique element to the location, providing potential opportunities for scenic train excursions during your camping trip. The proximity to the Hiwassee River, located just half a mile away, further enhances the appeal for nature lovers, offering opportunities for fishing, waterside relaxation, and enjoying the river's beauty.
While the name includes "Horse Camp," recent reviews indicate that the facilities are well-suited for all types of campers, especially RVs. The campground was "designed for horse trailers," which translates to spacious, half-circle driveways capable of accommodating "any size rig." This ease of access and ample space is a significant advantage for RV owners searching for 'camping near me' with accommodating site layouts. The presence of "twenty large shady spots available" suggests a comfortable camping environment, particularly during warmer months, offering respite from the sun.
In terms of services and features, Lost Corral Horse Camp offers essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience, especially considering it is currently free. Visitors have reported the presence of "two clean vault toilets" and "potable water spigots throughout" the campground. These fundamental facilities contribute to a more convenient and sanitary camping experience compared to completely undeveloped dispersed camping. Additionally, each campsite is equipped with "picnic tables, fire rings, lantern rings," providing the basics for outdoor cooking, campfires, and lighting.
One of the most remarkable features of Lost Corral Horse Camp, as highlighted in a recent review, is that it is currently "free." The reviewer mentions that it used to cost $15 a night, but due to issues with the cash box, the decision was made to make camping free. This presents an exceptional opportunity for budget-conscious travelers searching for 'camping near me' to enjoy a well-equipped and scenic location without any camping fees. This promotional aspect is a significant draw, making it an incredibly attractive option for those looking to save on accommodation costs while still enjoying a quality outdoor experience.
Beyond the campground itself, the surrounding area offers various points of interest and conveniences. The presence of "many trails nearby" caters to hikers and nature enthusiasts. While some trails might require a short drive (a mile or two), the proximity to these trails provides ample opportunities for exploration and enjoying the natural landscape. The Hiwassee River, as mentioned, is a major attraction within half a mile. For basic necessities, a "store 2 miles away," and two towns are located within an 8-mile radius, offering access to a wider range of services and supplies.
The infrastructure of the campground also receives positive mention, with "all paved roads to the entrance." Campers will need to "cross train tracks" to access the gravel roads within the campground itself, but the paved access to the entrance ensures a smooth arrival. The transition to gravel within the campground appears to be well-maintained, as indicated by the positive reviews.
The experience of a July camper who reported "me and one other person" being the only occupants suggests that even during peak season, the campground might not be overly crowded, offering a more secluded and peaceful experience. The observation of "no signs of recent horse use" might be relevant for those specifically seeking a non-equestrian camping environment, although it's important to remember the campground's original design catered to horses.
Promotional information for Lost Corral Horse Camp should undoubtedly emphasize its current status as a "free gem in the wilderness." This unique selling point, combined with the availability of clean vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern rings, makes it an incredibly attractive option for budget-conscious campers searching for 'camping near me' who still desire basic amenities. The spacious, RV-friendly sites, scenic train at the entrance, and proximity to the Hiwassee River and nearby trails further enhance its appeal.
Local users looking for a cost-effective and scenic camping option near Delano, TN, should strongly consider Lost Corral Horse Camp. The combination of its natural beauty, essential amenities, spacious sites, and the added bonus of being currently free makes it a standout choice within the 'camping near me' category. Whether you are an RV owner, a tent camper, or simply someone looking for a peaceful escape with access to hiking and the Hiwassee River, Lost Corral Horse Camp offers a compelling opportunity for a memorable outdoor adventure. Lost Corral Horse Camp Reviews
Nice campground. Easy to get to. Two bars 4G Verizon. Scenic Tennessee Valley train at the entrance with scheduled scenic rides up in the mountains and back. The campground use to be $15 a night but some kid kept stealing the cash box so they made it free recently. There are two clean vault toilets, potable water spigots throughout. Picnic tables, fire rings, lantern rings, half circle driveways, etc. The place was designed for horse trailers so it will accommodate any size rig. All paved roads to the entrance, cross train tracks then nice gravel. Many trails nearby. Some you might have to drive a mile or two to get to. I know two near the campground. The Hiwassee River and all its beauty is a half mile away. Store 2 miles away. Two towns 8 miles away. I camped in July. It was me and one other person. No signs of recent horse use. This is a free gem in the wilderness. Twenty large shady spots available.

Mar 17, 2025 · TIA RAYMONDWe were just driving by to see if there were any where we could have full hotorhome facilities. This campground doesn't offer what we required and $15/might. Mostly suited for horse campers with small rigs.
May 21, 2024 · Marie MorrisIt’s great, I just wish the train wouldn’t sit and run idle for hours at a time.
Oct 24, 2024 · Carla JacobsonWe are in lost corral campground. Having a great time. We can take a short drive to spring creek and swim , if we had our 🐟 gear we could fish.
