Lost River Valley Campground Introduce
Are you a local user in search of "camping near me" that offers a more rustic and nature-focused experience? Consider Lost River Valley Campground, situated at 951 Lost River Rd, North Woodstock, NH 03262, USA. You can reach them at (603) 745-8321 or their mobile number, +1 603-745-8321, for inquiries. Based on feedback from fellow campers, Lost River Valley Campground presents a mixed but potentially appealing option for those seeking a specific type of outdoor experience.
One reviewer described the campground accurately as "rustic," noting that the camp roads are narrow and hilly. This suggests that the terrain might be more natural and less manicured compared to some other campgrounds. For local users looking for a more traditional and less developed "camping near me" option, this could be a significant draw. The natural environment seems to be a key feature, with one reviewer mentioning it's a "beautiful spot."
However, this same reviewer also recounted a concerning experience involving fallen trees. On a windy Saturday morning, a large tree fell near their campsite, which was understandably "super scary." While acknowledging that weather is beyond anyone's control, the reviewer expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed response in fully removing the tree, which remained partially attached for several hours. Later that afternoon, the owner used an excavator to take down another potentially hazardous tree. The reviewer felt that the lack of direct communication from the owner regarding this process, instead sending an employee to ask them to move their trailer while they were preparing dinner, was disrespectful. This incident highlights a potential issue with communication and response to safety concerns that prospective campers should be aware of.
The same review also noted that the campground felt "rather run down" and lacked the "friendly family campground feel" the reviewer had hoped for, suggesting that the overall ambiance might not suit everyone, particularly those seeking a more amenity-rich or community-oriented camping experience. Despite the beautiful location, this reviewer felt it was "not worth the money they are charging." This perspective provides a critical viewpoint that local users should consider when evaluating their "camping near me" options.
In contrast, another camper "really enjoyed our time here," offering a more positive, albeit brief, sentiment. This indicates that experiences can vary, and the campground may appeal to different types of campers.
A more detailed positive review comes from a seasoned tent camper who typically seeks out spots near rivers, ponds, and quiet areas, prioritizing natural beauty over extensive amenities. This reviewer found the staff friendly upon arrival and noted that the main store had "great prices" on its items. Importantly for those seeking a riverside experience, they chose a space along the river that was described as "very large and clean" with a water spigot, easily accommodating three tents with room to spare. The cleanliness extended to the bathroom, which was reported as "always nice and clean." For local tent campers looking for "camping near me" with spacious, clean riverside sites, Lost River Valley Campground appears to be a strong contender based on this feedback.
This positive review also highlighted the adherence to typical campground rules, such as a 10 PM quiet time and slow driving within the grounds, with most campers respecting these guidelines. The reviewer also noted seeing staff driving by frequently and even had the owner stop by for a chat, which contradicts the other review's experience with owner communication. This suggests that while there might have been an isolated incident, positive interactions with the owner and staff are also part of the experience for some guests.
Ultimately, this reviewer expressed a strong intention to return due to the quiet and relaxing nature of the campsite, as well as the convenient and low-traffic location, making it a "great place to get away!" This perspective emphasizes the peaceful environment and accessibility that Lost River Valley Campground can offer to those looking for a tranquil "camping near me" retreat.
In summary, Lost River Valley Campground in North Woodstock, NH, offers a rustic camping experience in a potentially beautiful natural setting, particularly along the river. For local users prioritizing spacious, clean riverside tent sites and a quieter atmosphere, it could be a good choice. The presence of a store with reasonable prices and generally friendly staff are also positives. However, potential drawbacks include the rustic nature of the campground with narrow and hilly roads, and at least one instance of perceived poor communication and handling of a safety issue involving fallen trees. The overall condition of the campground was described by one reviewer as "rather run down," which is something to consider.
For local campers seeking "camping near me" with a focus on natural beauty and a quieter, more rustic feel, Lost River Valley Campground warrants further consideration. However, it's advisable to weigh the positive feedback regarding riverside sites and peacefulness against the concerns raised about the campground's condition and the handling of the tree incident. If you appreciate a more natural, less manicured camping environment and value a spacious site by the river, Lost River Valley Campground might be the right fit for your next local camping trip. We recommend contacting them directly at (603) 745-8321 to inquire about site availability and any specific concerns you might have.

Lost River Valley Campground Reviews
So this campground is as described, it’s rustic, the camp roads are narrow and hilly, but that’s not the reason for 2 stars. While we were there it was really windy on Saturday morning, a large tree fell near my campsite, super scary. I understand that no one can control the weather, but it was several hours before anyone came to take it down the rest of the way, it was still attached to the trunk of the tree. Later that afternoon, probably around 4 or 5 pm, we see the owner driving a large excavator by our site. There was apparently another large tree that was in danger of falling and he decided to take it down then. Instead of coming over and talking to us, he sent his employee over to ask us to move our trailer! Keeping in mind that we were already cooking dinner and enjoying time by the campfire. Also while this was going on kids are riding bikes and it was almost trick or treat time, and another trailer was backing into the site next to us, closer to the tree! The owner proceeded to ram the tree with the excavator until it fell over, safely away from our site thankfully. Still no communication from the owner. It felt very disrespectful as we chose to spend our money at this campground. Overall this campground is rather run down, and doesn’t have the friendly family campground feel that I was hoping for. Yes it is a beautiful spot, but in my opinion not worth the money they are charging.
Oct 15, 2024 · MelissaReally enjoyed our time here.I camp about 3-4 times a year and have been to about 15 spots in NH, always tent camping. I don't look for many amenities/never use them (pools, food truck, game rooms, etc), so I typically look for the best spots next to rivers, ponds and quiet spots.Staff was friendly when we arrived, and also the main store had great prices for all their items. The space we chose along the river was very large and clean and even had a water spigot. You could easily fit 3 tents in our area and have space to move around. The bathroom too was always nice and clean whenever we used it.Rules here are the typical "quiet time at 10PM," drive slow within the campgrounds and everyone seemed willing to abide by the rules. Saw staff driving by in go-karts pretty often, and the owner stop by to have a chat with us!Will definitely be back with how quiet and relaxing this camp site is. Location is convenient and low traffic so it's a great place to get away!
Jun 10, 2024 · Steven LiMy friends and I decided to go with Lost River Valley Campground for our vacation away from the city and I couldn't have been anymore satisfied with this campground.Campground & Location - Lost River Valley Campground is very peaceful we were on site 123 right next to the Walker brook. This site was absolutely perfect for our group. We had plenty of room for our tents, and other supplies. We also loved the sound of the water flowing at night. Site 123 was absolutely relaxing and quiet with the only sounds being the water flowing through the brook. The bathrooms were spotless! The staff definitely make sure they keep their bathrooms in great condition. The campground is also very close to a little town near Loon Mountain which made it very easy for us to go out and grab supplies if needed.Staff- The staff at Lost River Valley Campground are absolutely phenomenal. Our host Lisa goes above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect, and comfortable for our stay. When my group showed up past office hours, and needed assistance she didn't hesitate to come back and meet us to make sure we had everything we needed before heading to our site. She made us feel very welcomed and we really appreciate her and all the staff who assisted us whenever we had questions or needed help during our trip.I am definitely going to return to this campground and I definitely recommend Lost River Valley to anybody looking to go camping by the White Mountains!
Jun 13, 2024 · Brandon WuVery cute campground and very nice employees BUT look at the camp map before you book your site. We were at 16T and it was literally 10ft from a main road with a fast speed limit. it was such a bummer bc one side of our pop up was a lovely brook but the cars speeding by every 3 min was just horrible:( Scary even. Great location for a campground but can't believe there are even sites in this spot. So just be sure to look at camp map and book far from the main road, otherwise you'll hear cars zooming by nonstop and hoping non fly off the road into your site.
Oct 08, 2024 · Victoria FontaineFrom the moment we checked in, the process was so easy. The staff was super friendly. I loved the cabin we stayed in. It was perfect. Bathrooms were clean, showers are 25 cents for five min, but clean and hot. We stayed 3 nights. All of the local attractions are minutes away. The scenery of the campground was great. The woman running the activities and bike parade/dance party at the lazer light site was great. She was super funny and personable. Even though we had no kids with us, we were just walking by,and she wouldn't let us leave without getting involved. She was great. Thank you Lost River. See you next July. Thanks for the memories. --Lee & Ashley
