Wildwood Campground and Picnic Area

North Woodstock, NH 03262, USA

For what it is, the campground was amazing and perfect for our needs. The vault toilets were some of the cleanest me and my friends have seen - no piles of bugs or spiders everywhere which i was incredibly thankful for. The water stations were great and scattered throughout the site. Our campsite was the perfect size for us. The campground is dog friendly which allowed me to include my best bud. This was his first camping trip and he did great! My only minor complaint was that the campsite was too rocky for us to get our stakes in the ground so when it rained unexpectedly in the night my shoes got soaked because i couldn’t set up the rain flap to protect them. - Sofia Ricciardi

Based on feedback from recent visitors, Wildwood Campground appears to prioritize cleanliness and functionality, making it a comfortable and convenient choice for a variety of camping needs. One reviewer described the campground as "amazing and perfect for our needs," highlighting the exceptionally clean vault toilets. This is a significant plus for many campers, as cleanliness of restroom facilities can greatly impact the overall camping experience. The reviewer specifically noted the absence of excessive bugs or spiders, which is often a concern with vault toilets in outdoor settings.

Another appreciated feature of Wildwood Campground is the provision of water stations scattered throughout the site. This ensures easy access to potable water for campers, eliminating the need to carry large quantities of water to their individual campsites. This thoughtful amenity adds to the convenience and comfort of staying at the campground, especially for longer trips or those involving more strenuous activities.

The size of the campsites at Wildwood Campground seems to vary, with one reviewer noting that their site was the "perfect size" for their needs. However, another visitor who stayed at site 16 for fall leaf peeping mentioned that while the site was nice and close to the bathroom and water pump, the website pictures were somewhat misleading regarding its size. They had expected a roomier site farther from others. This suggests that while the sites are not cramped, they may not all offer the same level of spaciousness or seclusion. It's advisable to inquire about specific site dimensions or locations when making a reservation to ensure it meets your expectations.

A significant advantage for pet owners is that Wildwood Campground is dog-friendly. One reviewer was able to bring their dog on his first camping trip, and it went well. This makes the campground an attractive option for those who consider their furry friends essential companions on their outdoor adventures. It's always recommended to check specific pet policies, such as leash requirements, when booking.

One minor complaint mentioned by a camper was the rocky nature of some campsites, which made it difficult to secure tent stakes. This resulted in their shoes getting wet during unexpected overnight rain as they couldn't properly set up a rain flap. This is a practical consideration for tent campers, suggesting that bringing sturdy stakes designed for rocky ground might be beneficial. Alternatively, inquiring about less rocky sites when booking could also be a solution.

Wildwood Campground's location is a major draw, particularly for those interested in experiencing the stunning fall foliage of New Hampshire. Its proximity to the Kancamagus Highway, a renowned scenic byway, makes it an ideal base for leaf peeping excursions. This easy access to one of the region's most famous attractions enhances the overall appeal of the campground, especially during the autumn months.

The fire pits at Wildwood Campground are noted to be well-made, featuring two different sized/height grates for cooking. This is a thoughtful design that caters to various cooking needs and preferences, allowing campers to easily prepare meals over an open fire. The availability of well-constructed fire pits adds to the overall camping experience and encourages outdoor cooking.

The bathrooms at Wildwood Campground were described as "clean and not stinky" by one reviewer, further reinforcing the campground's commitment to cleanliness. This is another important aspect that contributes to a comfortable and enjoyable stay for campers.

However, one significant inconvenience experienced by a visitor during the last weekend of the season was the random stoppage of water pumps for about 24 hours without any warning. This necessitated buying water nearby. While this seems to have been an isolated incident at the end of the season, it highlights the importance of being prepared for potential unforeseen circumstances when camping. The reviewer recommended buying firewood from the host or nearby, but advised against purchasing the red mesh bags from a nearby store, as the wood burned very quickly and was not cost-effective. This practical tip is valuable for future campers.

Another point to note is the lack of phone service within the campground itself. However, the Beaver Lake tourist site nearby reportedly has service, providing a nearby location to connect if needed. This is important information for those who rely on phone communication during their travels.

Overall, the reviews suggest that Wildwood Campground and Picnic Area offers a generally positive camping experience, particularly for those seeking a clean, dog-friendly basecamp for exploring the natural beauty of the White Mountains and the Kancamagus Highway. The well-maintained facilities, including clean vault toilets, convenient water stations, and well-designed fire pits, contribute to a comfortable stay. While some campsites may be rocky or vary in size, and phone service is limited within the campground, the overall experience seems to be a good one, especially considering the prime location for outdoor activities and fall foliage viewing.

For local users looking for 'camping near me' in the North Woodstock, NH area, Wildwood Campground and Picnic Area presents a solid option. Its proximity to natural attractions, dog-friendly policy, and focus on cleanliness make it appealing for individuals, families, and pet owners. To ensure the best possible experience, it's recommended to inquire about specific campsite characteristics when booking and to be prepared for limited phone service within the campground. With its convenient location and positive reviews, Wildwood Campground offers a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty of the White Mountains.
