Lotts Island RV Campground. Introduce
For local users in the Savannah, Georgia area searching for "camping near me," Lotts Island RV Campground, located on Lott Island Rd, Savannah, GA 31409, USA, presents a strategically situated option, particularly for RV travelers. While described by reviewers as "bare bones" and not a resort-style campground, its prime location offers significant advantages for those looking to explore Savannah and its surrounding areas, as well as providing convenience for everyday needs.
One of the most prominent features of Lotts Island RV Campground, as highlighted by a long-term visitor, is its exceptional location. It provides convenient access not only to the historic city of Savannah but also to Pooler and even Hilton Head, SC, making it a viable base for exploring multiple destinations in the region. For those traveling from further afield, its proximity to major routes is also beneficial, with Atlanta being approximately a five-hour drive away. This central location makes it an attractive option for RVers looking to experience the diverse attractions of coastal Georgia and South Carolina.
Beyond regional exploration, Lotts Island RV Campground boasts remarkable convenience to everyday amenities. Its location near a mall, various gas stations, numerous restaurants, and shopping centers is a significant advantage. Notably, both Walmart and Target are within walking distance, making it incredibly easy for campers to stock up on groceries, supplies, or any other necessities without the hassle of driving. This walkability to essential retail outlets is a unique feature that sets Lotts Island RV Campground apart from more remote camping locations.
For those with military affiliations or needing access to military facilities, the campground's proximity to Hunter Army Airfield (AAF) is another key benefit. The reviewer specifically mentions that Hunter AAF is huge and offers a commissary, gym, and exchange, all easily accessible from the campground. This makes Lotts Island RV Campground a particularly convenient choice for military families, retirees, or anyone needing to utilize the services at Hunter AAF.
In terms of the campground environment itself, reviewers describe it as quiet and relatively small. This suggests a more intimate and less crowded atmosphere compared to larger RV resorts. While the "bare bones" description indicates a lack of extensive amenities, the peace and quiet can be a significant draw for those seeking a more low-key camping experience. The campground offers concrete pads for RVs, which is a practical feature for stability and setup. Additionally, each space appears to have a brick fire pit and a comfortable table with benches, providing essential elements for outdoor enjoyment at the individual campsites.
It's important to note some practical considerations mentioned in the reviews. For those traveling with very large RVs (40'+) and a tow vehicle, maneuvering within the campground might require some planning. One reviewer specifically advises requesting space #15 to accommodate such a setup or being prepared to disconnect the tow vehicle to navigate the grounds and fit into other spaces. Furthermore, accessing the campground with a big rig requires a specific approach: drivers need to go past the Rio gate and find a spot to turn around before returning to the campground entrance, which is located directly to the left of the sharp turn at the Rio gate. This information is crucial for ensuring a smooth arrival and setup.
The reviews also explicitly mention the absence of certain amenities that are often found at more developed campgrounds or RV resorts. Lotts Island RV Campground does not have a playground, laundry facilities, restrooms, or a recreation room. This reinforces the "bare bones" description and indicates that this campground caters to travelers who are self-sufficient in these areas or prioritize location and convenience over extensive on-site facilities. Therefore, campers should ensure they have their own onboard restroom and shower facilities if these are a necessity for their stay.
Interestingly, one reviewer observed that there seem to be quite a few long-term residents at the campground. While they noted that this was not an issue, it provides insight into the nature of the park, suggesting it might serve as a more permanent or semi-permanent living situation for some individuals, in addition to accommodating overnight and short-term travelers. This can sometimes contribute to a quieter atmosphere as long-term residents often maintain a more settled routine.
The positive experience of being accommodated on the same day, even at the end of the day, suggests that the campground management is responsive and may have availability even on short notice. This could be a valuable asset for travelers who find themselves needing a place to stay unexpectedly while in the Savannah area.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in staying at Lotts Island RV Campground are encouraged to contact them directly at (912) 315-9554 or +1 912-315-9554 to inquire about availability, pricing, specific site details, and any potential discounts for longer stays. Given its convenient location and the practical considerations for big rigs, it would be beneficial to discuss your RV size and any specific needs with the management when making a reservation.
In conclusion, for local users and travelers seeking "camping near me" in Savannah, GA, Lotts Island RV Campground offers a no-frills but exceptionally well-located option, particularly for RVers. Its proximity to Savannah, Pooler, Hilton Head, shopping centers (including walkable Walmart and Target), and Hunter AAF makes it a highly convenient base for exploring the region and accessing essential amenities. While it lacks resort-style facilities like playgrounds, laundry, and restrooms, its quiet atmosphere, concrete pads, fire pits, and tables at each site provide the basics for a comfortable stay. Just be mindful of the access and maneuvering considerations for large RVs. Contact Lotts Island RV Campground directly to plan your visit and take advantage of its prime location in the Savannah area.

We spent the past 30 days here and the best detail is its location to Savannah, Pooler and Hilton Head, SC. Atlanta 5 hours. The RVpark is also conveniently located near: the mall, gas, restaurants, & shopping centers. Walmart & Target are within walking distance. Hunter AAF is huge and has a commissary, gym and exchange. We had a great time!
Apr 01, 2025 · Beverly SessomsThis place is exactly what has been described by other reviewers. It’s bare bones but a great place to stay overnight or for a few nights. This is not a resort, is quiet and pretty small. If you have a 40’+ rig with a tow, you may want to request SPACE #15 otherwise, plan to disconnect. The spaces have concrete pads with brick fire pits and comfy tables/benches. From what we could tell, there are quite a few folks that stay here long term, not an issue tho just an observation. We were accommodated same day, end of day - thank you! Oh BTW if you have a big rig, you’ll need to drive past the Rio gate and find a spot to turn around and make your way back as the campground is directly to the left of the Rio gate which is a very sharp turn. FYI no playground, no laundry, no restrooms, no rec room.
Sep 06, 2024 · Sarah SaysNo bathroom or laundry, but close to Savanna and each site has pretty good space with shade. The gym and laundry are about 13 mins away on post. There is a road that gets you there without leaving post. The Exchange and Commissary are in that same area.Nice people here but no frills. Fishing 1/2 a mile away at Lotts Island. Walmart is about a mile away. Good location with a decent rate.Enjoy!
Oct 27, 2023 · Ryan SvoltoIt's a very average to below average campground. It did the job for us since we were just passing through and wanted to spend a couple days checking out Savannah. The grounds are kept up much of at all. We are a 42' 5th wheel and barley squeezed in spot 5 (no fire pit on that spot). We would go again for the convenience and the price, just wish they would clean up the area some. No bathrooms, picnic tables are cemented in,and there is a grill on each site.
Nov 01, 2023 · michael rinaldiThis is one of our favorite hit & runs. Full hookup 50amp pull thru big rig friendly. We enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful and relaxing. So beautiful camping amongst all the trees. Safe on military base. Close to everything. Stayed here many times when coming through.
