We stayed in this campground since it was close to downtown Savannah. The sites were very close together. We didn't put our chairs out because we would have been very close to our neighbor. Site was gravel and dirt and not level. The dog park was nice and big and the park was clean. Roads were a little tight. - Tracee Reynolds

Spacious Skies Campgrounds - Savannah Oaks Introduce

For local users seeking "camping near me" with convenient access to downtown Savannah, Georgia, Spacious Skies Campgrounds - Savannah Oaks, located at 805 Fort Argyle Rd, Savannah, GA 31419, presents itself as an option. They can be reached by phone at (912) 748-4000 or mobile at +1 912-748-4000. While its proximity to the city is noted as a positive by some, recent customer reviews provide a mixed perspective on the overall camping experience, which local users should carefully consider.

One of the primary advantages mentioned in the reviews is the campground's location relative to downtown Savannah. This makes it a potentially attractive base for those wishing to explore the historic city and its attractions while still having a designated camping space. However, this convenience appears to come with certain trade-offs regarding the campground's layout and site conditions.

Several reviewers highlight the close proximity of the campsites to one another. One customer explicitly stated, "The sites were very close together. We didn't put our chairs out because we would have been very close to our neighbor." This close proximity might be a concern for campers seeking more privacy and personal space at their campsite. It could potentially impact the ability to comfortably enjoy outdoor activities or simply relax outside your RV or tent.

Furthermore, the condition of the campsites themselves has been a point of criticism. One review noted that the site was "gravel and dirt and not level." Uneven sites can create challenges for setting up RVs and tents properly, potentially leading to discomfort and difficulties with leveling appliances within RVs. The lack of grass on the sites might also be a drawback for those preferring a softer ground cover.

The internal roads within the campground are also mentioned as being "a little tight." This could pose a challenge for larger RVs navigating the campground, potentially making maneuvering into and out of sites more difficult. Local users with larger vehicles should take this into consideration when assessing the suitability of this campground.

Despite these drawbacks, some positive aspects were noted. The dog park is described as "nice and big," which is a significant amenity for pet owners traveling with their dogs. A spacious dog park allows pets to exercise and socialize comfortably. Additionally, the campground itself is reported to be "clean," suggesting that while the individual sites might have issues, the overall maintenance of the common areas is satisfactory.

However, a particularly concerning review details several negative experiences during a longer stay. This review mentions frequent and unannounced water shutoffs, occurring "at least twice per week for hours at a time." Such disruptions can significantly impact the comfort and convenience of campers, making essential tasks like showering, cooking, and washing dishes problematic. Local users planning an extended stay should inquire about the reliability of essential utilities.

The condition of the laundry room is also raised as a significant issue. The reviewer states that the laundry room was "in desperate need of upgrades," with "multiple washers and dryers out of service for our entire stay." With only three dryers available for a campground with over 60 spots, even fully functional machines would likely face high demand, and the added issue of out-of-service units would exacerbate this problem, making laundry a potentially frustrating task for campers.

Perhaps the most concerning aspect highlighted in one review is the interaction with the staff. While the initial check-in with two women is described as smooth, a subsequent encounter with a male staff member is reported as "rudely" accusing the guest of moving spots. Despite the guest being in the correct spot as per their paperwork, no apology or explanation was offered, and they were instead told they would need to move for an arriving guest. Such an experience raises concerns about communication and customer service within the campground management.

The layout of the pull-through spaces is also criticized as "a really bizarre setup." The alternating directions of these spaces mean that campers are "door to door" with their neighbors, with only about five feet of space between them. This arrangement is described as "very inconvenient for pets and spending time outside," further reinforcing the issue of limited personal space and potentially impacting the overall outdoor experience at the campsite.

Finally, the accuracy of the online representation is questioned, with a reviewer stating that "the photo that is on the website of the dog park is not a photo of this location." This discrepancy between the advertised amenity and the reality could be misleading for potential visitors. The actual dog park is described as having "no grass, only dirt," which could make it difficult to keep pets clean, especially after rain.

Considering these recent customer reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" and considering Spacious Skies Campgrounds - Savannah Oaks should weigh the convenience of its location against the reported drawbacks. The close proximity of sites, potentially unlevel and gravel/dirt surfaces, tight roads, unreliable water supply, inadequate laundry facilities, and concerns about staff interactions are all factors that could impact the camping experience negatively.

While the dog park is a noted positive for pet owners, the lack of grass might still be a consideration. The cleanliness of the overall park is also a plus, but it doesn't negate the issues reported with individual campsites and amenities.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Therefore, local users interested in potential discounts or special offers would need to contact the campground directly at the provided phone numbers. It would also be prudent to inquire about the reliability of the water supply, the status of the laundry facilities, and to seek clarification on the campsite layouts and conditions based on the recent feedback.

In conclusion, Spacious Skies Campgrounds - Savannah Oaks offers a location convenient to downtown Savannah, which may be appealing to some local campers. However, the recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding the close proximity and condition of campsites, potential utility issues, inadequate laundry facilities, and reports of negative staff interactions. Local users are strongly encouraged to conduct further research and potentially contact the campground directly to address these concerns before making a reservation to ensure it meets their expectations for a "camping near me" experience.
