The nature and campsites themselves are beautiful but not well maintained. The last people to use both sites with lake access were dirty people. The one on the left was so disgusting. There was human poop everywhere. The fire pit was full of dirty toilet paper. Some little kid ripped butterflies apart and put them on a rock and pooped on the same rock. The poop attracted so many bugs we hung out in our car most of the time. The one on the right removed the grate from the fire pit and left it in the bushes. I'm happy we found it so we didn't have to cook in the dirty one.If you come here clean up after yourself. - Madison Hays

McClintic Point Primitive Campground Introduce

For local residents and visitors seeking "camping near me" in the Hot Springs, Virginia area, McClintic Point Primitive Campground, located at 8446 Bolars Drive Road, Hot Springs, VA 84445, offers a lakeside primitive camping experience. Situated in a potentially beautiful natural setting, this first-come-first-serve campground has received mixed reviews regarding its upkeep and the behavior of some previous campers. It is crucial for potential visitors to consider this feedback when deciding if McClintic Point aligns with their expectations for a "camping near me" getaway.

The environment of McClintic Point Primitive Campground is described by one reviewer as having "beautiful nature and campsites." This suggests that the location boasts attractive natural features, likely including the lake access mentioned in subsequent reviews. Lakeside camping can offer scenic views, opportunities for water-based activities (though not explicitly detailed), and a generally tranquil atmosphere. However, the positive description of the natural setting is contrasted with concerns about the maintenance and cleanliness of the campsites themselves.

In terms of services and features, McClintic Point is identified as a "primitive campground." This typically implies basic or minimal amenities, such as designated campsites and possibly fire pits. The reviews do not mention the presence of restrooms, water sources, or electrical hookups, reinforcing the primitive nature of the campground. One review does mention fire pits at the lake-access sites, one of which had its grate removed and left in the bushes. The first-come-first-serve nature of the campsites is also noted, meaning that reservations are not taken, and availability is based on arrival time. This can be both an advantage (for spontaneity) and a disadvantage (risk of no available site upon arrival).

The most significant concerns raised in the reviews pertain to the cleanliness and maintenance of the campground, particularly the campsites with lake access. One reviewer recounted a disturbingly unsanitary experience at the left lake-access site, describing human feces found in multiple locations, including within the fire pit mixed with dirty toilet paper. This indicates a severe lack of cleanliness left by previous campers and potentially a lack of adequate monitoring or cleaning by campground management. Such conditions can create an unpleasant and potentially hazardous environment for subsequent visitors, attracting insects and detracting significantly from the enjoyment of the natural setting.

The experience at the right lake-access site was slightly better but still highlighted issues with previous campers not leaving the area in good condition. The removal of the fire pit grate and its abandonment in the bushes demonstrates a lack of respect for the shared facilities and consideration for future campers. While the reviewer was happy to find the grate, the fact that it was missing from the fire pit upon their arrival underscores the need for greater responsibility among users and potentially more oversight from the campground. The reviewer's plea for visitors to "clean up after yourself" emphasizes the critical role of individual responsibility in maintaining the usability and enjoyment of primitive campgrounds.

In contrast to the negative experiences at the lake-access sites, another reviewer described the campground generally as "very clean quiet , and peaceful" during their visit. This suggests that the conditions might vary depending on the specific campsite and the behavior of previous occupants. This discrepancy in experiences highlights the potential inconsistency in the cleanliness and maintenance of the campground. The same reviewer also noted that the water level was low during their visit, which could impact the aesthetic appeal and potential for any water-related activities if the lake is a central feature.

Given the conflicting reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" and considering McClintic Point Primitive Campground face a degree of uncertainty. The beautiful natural setting and lake access are undoubtedly attractive features. The quiet and peaceful atmosphere reported by one reviewer also suggests the potential for a relaxing getaway. However, the disturbing account of extreme uncleanliness at one of the lake-access sites raises serious concerns about the overall maintenance and the respect shown by some campers. The first-come-first-serve nature means that potential visitors cannot choose a specific site in advance and might inadvertently end up at a poorly maintained one.

There is no promotional information provided for McClintic Point Primitive Campground. Therefore, it is not possible to discuss any special offers or incentives that might be available. Local users would need to rely on the available reviews and potentially contact the phone number provided (which is the same as Blowing Springs Campground, suggesting joint management or a shared contact point) for any additional information. When calling, it would be advisable to inquire specifically about the current conditions of the campsites, particularly those with lake access, and what measures are in place to ensure cleanliness and maintenance.

In conclusion, McClintic Point Primitive Campground near Hot Springs, VA, offers the allure of beautiful nature and lake access in a first-come-first-serve setting. While one reviewer found it clean, quiet, and peaceful, another detailed significant issues with human waste and a lack of cleanliness left by previous campers at the lake-access sites. The inconsistent experiences suggest that the quality of individual campsites might vary greatly and that the overall maintenance could be improved. Local users seeking "camping near me" should carefully consider these contrasting reports and perhaps seek more recent reviews or contact the management directly to assess the current conditions before planning a visit to McClintic Point Primitive Campground.
