Missouri Valley City Campground Introduce
Are you looking for an affordable and conveniently located 'camping near me' in the Missouri Valley, Iowa area? Missouri Valley City Campground, situated at 913 W Huron St, Missouri Valley, IA 51555, USA, offers a budget-friendly option for RV travelers and potentially tent campers seeking a straightforward and quiet overnight stay. Based on recent customer reviews, this city-operated campground provides basic amenities and a peaceful environment, making it a practical choice for those passing through or looking for a simple camping experience close to home.
The environment of Missouri Valley City Campground is described as a "very nice park" with RV sites located around the perimeter, along the fence line. This suggests a park-like setting with designated camping areas that integrate with the surrounding green space. The mention of a "kids park right next to camping" indicates that the campground is family-friendly and offers a convenient recreational area for children. While the overall atmosphere is reported as "beautiful," it's important to note that the proximity to train tracks may result in occasional noise, particularly overnight.
In terms of services and hookups, Missouri Valley City Campground primarily caters to RVs. Each site is equipped with electric hookups, providing a significant convenience for travelers with recreational vehicles. Water hookups are available approximately at every third site, so campers requiring a direct water connection will need to plan accordingly and potentially bring a long hose, as one reviewer advises. It's important to note that there are no direct sewer connections at the individual campsites. However, the campground does provide a dump site for RV users to empty their holding tanks, which is a crucial amenity for longer stays.
A notable feature of Missouri Valley City Campground is its exceptional affordability. The camping fee is stated as only $15 per night, which is intended to be placed in a drop box. Interestingly, recent reviews indicate a potential issue with the payment collection system, with one camper noting that the pay envelope bin was empty for over a week and that city workers who frequented the park did not appear to be checking for payments. While this might seem like a temporary oversight, it is essential for local users considering this 'camping near me' option to be prepared to pay the fee as intended and perhaps even confirm the payment procedure upon arrival by contacting the city authorities using the provided phone numbers: (712) 642-3502 and +1 712-642-3502.
The layout of the RV sites is described as being "around the fence," with campers parking alongside the hookups. This arrangement might influence the setup and accessibility of individual sites, and it's something to keep in mind when choosing a spot. The availability of water every third site necessitates planning, especially for those with longer RVs or specific water usage needs. Bringing a long water hose is a practical tip from a fellow camper to ensure you can connect to a water source if your chosen site is not directly adjacent to one.
The quiet overnight atmosphere, with the exception of occasional train noise, is a significant advantage for those seeking a peaceful night's sleep while 'camping near me'. While the train sounds might be noticeable, they are not reported as being excessively disruptive. The overall tranquility of the park setting contributes to a relaxing camping experience.
Given that Missouri Valley City Campground is a municipal facility, the services and amenities are likely basic but functional. In addition to the electric and water hookups and the dump site, it's reasonable to expect standard park amenities such as picnic tables and possibly trash receptacles. The proximity to a kids' park is a valuable feature for families with young children, providing a convenient and safe place for them to play. However, information on other potential amenities like restrooms or showers is not available in the provided reviews, so local users should inquire about these when contacting the city.
As there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the reviews, the incredibly low nightly fee of $15 effectively serves as a significant draw for budget-conscious campers seeking 'camping near me'. This affordability, coupled with the basic RV hookups and the quiet environment, makes Missouri Valley City Campground a potentially attractive option for short stays or those prioritizing cost-effectiveness over extensive amenities. Local users might want to contact the city to confirm the current pricing and any regulations or requirements for camping at the park.
In conclusion, Missouri Valley City Campground offers a budget-friendly and relatively quiet 'camping near me' option in Missouri Valley, Iowa, primarily catering to RV travelers. The availability of electric hookups at each site and water at every third site, along with a dump station, provides essential services for RVs. The adjacent kids' park makes it suitable for families. While occasional train noise should be expected, the overall atmosphere is described as pleasant. Local users are advised to contact the city at (712) 642-3502 or +1 712-642-3502 to confirm the payment procedures and inquire about any additional amenities or regulations to ensure a smooth and enjoyable camping experience at this affordable local campground.

Missouri Valley City Campground Reviews
Very nice park with RV sites around the perimeter along the fence. Electric at each site, water at every 3rd site. No sewer connection but there is a dump site. It was quiet overnight with the exception of an occasional train. Sites are only $15 put into a drop box. The pay envelope bin was empty and, according to others, had been that way for over a week. City workers came and went every day but no one checked for payments.
Jul 31, 2024 · Ken TischlerThe hookups are around tje fence. You park on side..water is about every 3rd site, bring a long hose. There is a kids park right next to camping. Beautiful location.
May 22, 2024 · Tessa MitchellStayed in a tent. Trains come through repeatedly at night blowing their horn. It is a nice little park but the train horns ruins it, at least for tent campers. Can not recommend unfortunately.
Apr 03, 2023 · JBNice little city campground. The bathrooms (no showers) are on the SE corner of one of the big white buildings. The bathrooms on the NW side and facing the park are locked (only open for special events I believe) and not part of the campground.
Jun 24, 2022 · Darrin OchsnerTrain runs through here about 50 feet away and honks its horn exactly here. Probably 8 trains have passed through overnight and you still have to listen to the thumping of the tracks. Besides that the park is fine
