Masterson Group Campground Introduce
For local users in search of a spacious and scenic group camping destination within the "camping near me" category, Masterson Group Campground, located in Elk Creek, CA (address: Elk Creek, CA 95939, USA, phone: (530) 963-3128 or mobile: +1 530-963-3128), offers a promising retreat. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground boasts ample space, beautiful natural surroundings, and certain amenities that make it particularly well-suited for larger gatherings. However, potential local visitors should also be aware of some conditions regarding access and water availability to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.
One of the standout features of Masterson Group Campground, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, is its spaciousness. One visitor described it as a "nice outta the way camping ⛺️ site that has lots of room," while another noted it is "plenty big for large groups up to 30-40 people." This makes it an ideal choice for local users planning family reunions, group outings with friends, or any larger camping event where ample space to spread out and enjoy activities together is desired. The generous size ensures that even with a sizable group, campers can maintain a sense of openness and not feel overcrowded, enhancing the overall "camping near me" experience for everyone involved.
The natural environment surrounding Masterson Group Campground is consistently praised for its beauty and tranquility. One reviewer described it as a "Beautiful campground, quiet, clean, next to a stream, under a canopy of trees during the day and a blanket of stars at night." This paints a picture of a serene setting with shade during the day and clear views of the night sky, appealing to local campers seeking a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle. The proximity to a stream adds to the ambiance and may offer opportunities for gentle exploration or simply enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water. The canopy of trees suggests a shaded environment, particularly welcome during warmer California days, making it a comfortable option for a local "camping near me" getaway.
In terms of accessibility and activities, one reviewer mentioned a "Nice road to walk for a hike," indicating that there are opportunities for leisurely strolls or more extended hikes directly from or near the campground. This is a significant draw for local users who enjoy exploring the outdoors on foot and appreciate having trails readily available. The scenic drive to the campground is also noteworthy, with one visitor describing it as "glorious with incredible views," further enhancing the overall experience of visiting this local camping destination.
Regarding amenities, one review mentions the presence of "bathrooms and running water 💦," while another, writing at a different time, stated "no running water when we’re there." This inconsistency suggests that the availability of running water might be seasonal, intermittent, or subject to maintenance. Local users planning a trip should definitely call ahead using the provided phone numbers ((530) 963-3128 or +1 530-963-3128) to inquire about the current status of the water supply and plan accordingly, potentially bringing their own water if necessary. Both reviewers agreed that the "bathroom was very clean and stocked," which is a significant positive for group camping, where restroom facilities are essential for comfort and hygiene.
A crucial piece of information for local users considering Masterson Group Campground is the condition of the access road. One reviewer advises that "It is best to have 4WD as the road is rutted and can be difficult in places." This suggests that while the drive is scenic, it might be challenging for vehicles without four-wheel drive, particularly in certain conditions. Local campers should assess their vehicle capabilities and the current road conditions (which can also be inquired about when calling ahead) to ensure safe and easy access to the campground. This is a vital consideration for a "camping near me" location, as accessibility can significantly impact the overall experience.
One reviewer mentioned that "They where doing some clearing while we where there so it was kinda messy." This seems to be a temporary situation related to campground maintenance. While it might have caused a slight inconvenience for that particular visitor, it also suggests that the campground management is actively working to maintain and improve the site, which is a positive sign for future local campers.
In summary, Masterson Group Campground in Elk Creek, CA, offers a beautiful, quiet, and spacious setting ideal for large groups seeking a "camping near me" experience. Its proximity to a stream, hiking opportunities, and scenic drive are significant attractions. While the availability of running water may vary, the clean and stocked bathrooms are a definite plus. Local users should be prepared for a potentially rutted access road, ideally having a 4WD vehicle, and are strongly advised to call ahead to confirm the water situation and any current conditions at the campground. Overall, Masterson Group Campground appears to be a highly recommended local option for those planning a group camping trip and seeking a respite in a picturesque natural environment.

Masterson Group Campground Reviews
This is a nice outta the way camping ⛺️ site that has lots of room, bathrooms and running water 💦. They where doing some clearing while we where there so it was kinda messy. It is right across the road from a really nice day park place too.
Jul 07, 2019 · Wez So_N_SoBeautiful campground, quiet, clean, next to a stream, under a canopy of trees during the day and a blanket of stars at night. Nice road to walk for a hike, or just sitting around the campfire, this place is perfect. It is best to have 4WD as the road is rutted and can be difficult in places. The drive in itself is glorious with incredible views, the campground is plenty big for large groups up to 30-40 people, bathroom was very clean and stocked, no running water when we’re there, you’ll have to call ahead or bring your own. Highly recommend for a few days of respite.
Jun 16, 2023 · Rich DaigleGreat for large groups. Very private and large. Nearby to plaskett lake which is a good fishing lake but not for swimming. A word of caution: do not follow Google maps directions to this campground at the moment. One of the roads it suggests you you to take (307) is completely out of commission and very dangerous to even go down. Take alder springs Rd the entire way instead.
