Plaskett Meadows Campground Introduce
For local residents of Elk Creek, California, and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Plaskett Meadows Campground, located in Elk Creek, CA 95939, offers a seemingly attractive option for a camping getaway. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground is situated in a beautiful and remote wooded area, featuring unique natural attractions such as spring-fed lakes suitable for swimming and fishing. However, potential visitors should also be aware of a significant noise issue reported by one reviewer due to nearby logging operations.
The environment of Plaskett Meadows Campground is described as being "out in the woods," suggesting a setting immersed in nature, likely with trees providing some level of shade and a sense of seclusion. The access road is noted as "dusty," which is typical for more remote campgrounds and should be considered by those with vehicles sensitive to dust or those planning to bring equipment that needs to stay clean. A particularly appealing environmental feature is the presence of "two small spring fed lakes" within the campground area. These lakes are reported to be suitable for both swimming ("you can swing") and fishing, providing excellent recreational opportunities for campers of all ages. The clear, spring-fed water likely adds to the beauty and appeal of the location, offering a refreshing way to cool off and a chance to catch some fish. The combination of a wooded setting and accessible lakes makes Plaskett Meadows Campground sound like a potentially idyllic natural retreat.
In terms of services, one of the customer reviews mentions that the campground has "water hookups," which is a significant amenity, particularly for RV campers or those planning an extended stay. Water hookups at campsites provide a direct and convenient source of potable water, enhancing the comfort and practicality of camping. The review also notes that the campground has "a lot of different sized camping spots," indicating that it can accommodate various group sizes and camping setups, from individual tents to larger RVs. This flexibility in site sizes is a valuable feature, making the campground accessible to a wider range of campers with different needs and equipment. However, the reviews do not provide information about other common campground services such as restrooms, showers, fire pits, or picnic tables. Local users searching for "camping near me" should seek additional information to determine the full range of services available at Plaskett Meadows Campground.
The key features of Plaskett Meadows Campground, based on the reviews, are its beautiful and remote location, the presence of two spring-fed lakes for swimming and fishing, and the availability of water hookups at some campsites. The variety of campsite sizes also adds to its appeal, accommodating different types of camping groups. The remoteness of the location, while contributing to its beauty and tranquility for some, might also mean limited or no cell phone service and a greater need for self-sufficiency regarding supplies and emergency preparedness. The "dusty road" access is another feature to be aware of, potentially affecting vehicle cleanliness and requiring careful driving.
However, a significant feature, or rather a potential drawback, highlighted by one reviewer is the noise from a nearby logging operation. The reviewer, who stayed in mid-September 2018, reported that "an incredibly loud and large water truck passes directly through the campground" multiple times between 3:30 AM and early afternoon. This truck was apparently using the lake to fill its tanks for the logging operation. The noise was significant enough that the reviewer would "not recommend trying to sleep here until this ends." This is a critical piece of information for local users considering Plaskett Meadows Campground. The potential for disruptive noise, especially during sleeping hours, could severely impact the camping experience, particularly for those seeking peace and quiet in a natural setting. It is important to note that this review is from 2018, so the logging operation and its associated noise might have ceased or changed. However, potential campers should be aware of this possibility and consider seeking current information about any ongoing logging activities near the campground before making a reservation.
For local users searching for "camping near me," Plaskett Meadows Campground offers the allure of a beautiful and remote location with unique recreational opportunities provided by its spring-fed lakes. The availability of water hookups is a definite plus for those traveling with RVs or needing a reliable water source. The variety of campsite sizes suggests that the campground can accommodate different needs. However, the potential for significant noise from nearby logging operations, particularly in the early morning hours, is a serious consideration that could detract from the overall experience. Campers who value peace and quiet might find this disruptive, while others might be less affected or might be visiting outside of the logging operation's active hours.
To make an informed decision about camping at Plaskett Meadows Campground, local users should take the following steps:
- Search online for more recent reviews or information about the campground to see if the noise issue from the logging operation persists or if there have been any changes.
- Check official Mendocino National Forest websites or recreation.gov for details about Plaskett Meadows Campground, including available amenities, fees, reservation procedures, and any current alerts or advisories.
- Look for user-submitted photos or videos of the campground to get a better sense of the environment, the lakes, and the campsite layouts.
- If possible, contact the Mendocino National Forest directly to inquire about any logging activities near Plaskett Meadows Campground and the potential for noise impact.
- Consider the time of year for the camping trip, as the logging operation might be seasonal.
In conclusion, Plaskett Meadows Campground near Elk Creek, CA, offers a potentially beautiful and remote camping experience with the unique features of spring-fed lakes for swimming and fishing, as well as water hookups at some sites and a variety of campsite sizes. Its location "out in the woods" suggests a natural and secluded setting. However, potential local users searching for "camping near me" must be aware of the significant noise issue reported in a past review due to a nearby logging operation with early morning water truck traffic through the campground. It is crucial to seek up-to-date information regarding any ongoing logging activities before planning a stay to ensure a peaceful and enjoyable camping experience. Despite the allure of its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, the potential for noise disruption is a key factor that local campers should consider.

Plaskett Meadows Campground Reviews
This is a really nice campground out in the woods off a dusty road. It has two small spring fed lakes that you can swing and fish in. This place has a lot of different sized camping spots and water hookups too
Jul 07, 2019 · Wez So_N_SoAs others have posted this place is beautiful and remote. Be warned though, I was here mid September 2018. There is a nearby logging operation and at 3:30 AM an incredibly loud and large water truck passes directly through the campground on way to the lake to fill it's tanks. It makes it's way back out about a half hour later then repeats the cycle approximately every 2 hours until early afternoon. I would not recommend trying to sleep here until this ends.
Sep 12, 2018 · Scott LePageIt's a long bumpy ride into a nuked out forest literally every tree is burnt too a crisp. But the ponds at the meadow are beautiful and there are still some green trees around the pond lots of shade and very quiet.
Oct 07, 2021 · Miller WilliamBeautiful ponds, but the shade is no more, devastated by August Complex Fire in 2020. I don't think they stock it anymore or if it's safe, the burned trees could drop branches.
Sep 16, 2022 · Alexander Jacob AaronNo water. Bring water. Has spigots, but not on. Only very clean vault toilets. Lots of insects. Several pull through sites. No host. Nominal fee. Can't see lake. Does have garbage pickup.
