Hohneke Pond site #1 Reviews
I stayed here again this weekend (7/15-17) and had an amazing time! Reservations were easy and ridiculously cheap for the value you get out of it. Wildlife is plentiful, had a crane hanging out all weekend, frogs, toads, ducks, and too many others to list. The modern restrooms really help, the running water, soap, and modern toilets are a little slice of heaven when staying at one of the primitive sites. This is probably my favorite area in the entire Midwestern United States. If they allowed me to live here I would. If this is your first time the hike down to the campsite is a little brutal when carrying your gear. I prefer to pack light. My first time at Hitchcock, I stayed at the Hohneke site and had an absolutely wonderful time. It's so peaceful, quiet, and beautiful here, I could've stayed forever. The campsite is literally right off of the trail and you may get visitors to the pond during your stay, but I was alone every night after 730pm until about 9am the next morning. Hitchcock is by far the best primitive camping sites I have found in the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area.
